I’m 83 and still get a laugh out of them what about a trip to the seaside u probely wouldn’t get away with it now such is the loss of our ability to have fun can’t beat British humour

Actually, no one has the mental acumen to produce such intelligent comedy any more. British comedy excelled all other efforts at comedy.

Outstanding humour! And their ability to keep the laughter off their faces, shows pros at work!

The fact that they bothered to make a name plate for the managers desk speaks volumes as to their attention to detail - this was a one off sketch, not an ongoing series.

Love it and I am an accountant.

They play off each other so well..it is magic.

I was in my teens when this and Monty Pythons made me shy away from accountancy so I got a degree in Psychology! Later I decided to 'go for it', passed exams etc etc. Then I started my own practice and enjoyed every minute of it until I was able to retire in my mid 50s and devote my time to being a goat tamer. Ask my Bitekins (of credit control), my wife.

The BBC never produced the Two Ronnies. The BBC just licenced production companies to give them stuff to broadcast. They started doing that in the 60s. Yes, there are stuff like live shows that the BBC produces, but not comedy or any other shows....oops, sorry for being a bore

Redolent of the Monty Python Chartered Accountant vocational guidance counsellor sketch with Michael Palin and John Cleese. I think MP may also have contributed to some of the 2 Ronnies material

Like I say, this sketch is something completely different from the said Monty Python sketch (pun intended). It just has the same premise as the Monty Python sketch, that accountants are reputedly boring people.

Ronnie Barkers face when Ronnie tries to make him laugh is a classic pose…..😀😃😄

Hilarious stuff here. I found out about Porridge and The Two Ronnies as I enjoyed Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours so much.

I love both of the first two you mention, but Porridge is even dearer to my heart. Grew up with it, and Fletch is such a grand character! (As is Mr McKay, and others are very good, too.)

This is just brilliant. I'm glad to have been a kid when this was on the tv. "Never mind her eclairs!"

I could not agree more. This and other sketches of theirs are pure genius. The so called comedy of today is trash and most of it is not the least bit funny. The Two Ronnies are legends. We will not see their like again.

Actually I was speaking in jest as I am renowned for my sense of levity. In reality I design Paper Clips . I pride myself on being an expert in this field and this has been my passion for nearly 30 years now since I started at Radia Paper Clips which is an Anglo-French Firm. As I'm sure we all know a paper clip is a device, used worldwide to temporally hold papers together. An interesting fact is that the technology for manufacturing paper clips evolved in the early years of the twentieth century, and has remained virtually unchanged since the 1930s ! Paper clips come in several forms, but the one most often seen in common use is called the Gem clip. The origin of the term "Gem" is supposed to have originated from one of our British firms that began exporting them at least 100 years ago , which I find fascinating . The term has come to stand for the iconic shape of the oval-within-oval design. Actually any clip of this shape is called a Gem clip, regardless of the manufacturer. Another type of paper clip sometimes used by archivists and librarians is called the Gothic clip. It has a rectangular shape, with a triangular inner loop. One reason, they would have rehearsed this over and over and over again to the point they would get bored of the scene. That is a technique which many use. Once you have rehearsed it over and over it becomes boring and lets you not corpse.

@@Cool2BCeltic He DID in fact do a serious series- sorry, I can't remember the name. Barker was something bordering on the genius. His talents seemed literally limitless. He was also word-perfect; he could reel off dozens of tongue-twisters, flawlessly. Apart from an immense personal talent, he must have been a ferocious hard worker. Oscar Peterson, one of the greatest giants Jazz has ever known, was asked to define what he thought genius was. He replied: 1% inspiration, and 99% perspiration.

The 2 Ronnies are just apure amazing talent - how they harmonise is past amazing. I never really liked Ronnie Barker alone but more so i liked Ronnie C alone - but when 2 becomes 2 - this makes things far far better

They rehearsed this over and over again, that by the time of recording they got so used to it, that it became the norm, however of course now and again they would slip.

Well we sure won't be seeing that sort of comedy anymore.

What a very funny sketch. The two Ronnie's were brilliant one of a kind. It's a shame the comedy of today is not as the same standard.

Very funny. The truth is though that having a dull but excellent accountant is much more useful to a company than an exciting one.
