One of my favorite parts of Penelope’s season 3 wardrobe is that her dresses actually fit her body now. Just because the era had a high waistline doesn’t mean her dresses had to only have a few inches of fabric above to waistline. She’s a big lady so she needs more fabric. Her season 1 dresses especially were more per-portioned to someone of Daphne or Eloise’s build. Now, her dresses are per-portioned properly, with the waistline hitting fashionably just under her bust instead of way too high! As a big lady myself, it’s awesome to see Pen in clothes that fit her well!

This was on purpose! Partly because in the books it is said that the Featherintons wear ill fitting clothes, and also to hide her bust which would've made her look older in the first season specially (where she is 16-18). It helps with the visual transition from young girl to womanhood

I think that’s because the costume department didn’t do enough research and did know another way to make her look “frumpy” and younger. Regardless, in real life the bustling would have sat correctly.

😂 The idea that Nicola Coughlan, and I've seen this mentioned repeatedly (in both positive and negative ways) is considered a big lady is hilarious to me. She's 5' 1" and she is a size 10 in clothes (UK 10, US 6).

Definitely not! In tv/film, these stylistic choices help decode the passage of time or how are character is feeling. It’s a mechanism to further tell the story, which is what I’m explaining. Definitely not a “roast” of anyone’s natural hair. :)

I know what you mean. I feel like natural tight ringlets look wild and free and uninhibited. Hers did seem to be put up very structured, but just letting the ringlets down where they can bounce and be free would have been a beautiful, confident, sexy look. Didn't have to "uncurl" them for a glow-up.

I love how Bridgerton embraces all kind of women’s beauty, shape, sizes, races, colors, etc. that’s exactly the world we should be live in. Because each woman is beautiful on its own and not by some ,,society” standard of beauty. I hope we can see this more and more because it’s truly important and we lacked this in society norms for far too long.

Her clothes also fit her now and the colors compliment her, like her mother wanted her to wear citrus colors because they if her mother so most likely also her (even if Penelope takes after her mom by personality she may have more of her dad's skin complications) and because the family is new money her mom thinks they need to wear colors that will notice the daughters more (even if most families wear more light blues and other light colors)

Well I guess just imagine waking up and heading to your job as a hair and make up artist and you walk into the trailer on set, you place your things down and head to the morning meeting next to the break room and have a conversation with the director, the historian researchers and other stylists that were brought in, all to determine each characters style and look. Do that everyday for a few months or years and yes.....lots of thoughts and many details would pile into every frame of that film.

Interesting point, and very true. :) But I think that is actually fairly normal with people glowing up. At first, they may go a bit over the top/extra bold, to counter how plain they felt before. And as they learn what fits them better, they find a happy medium, and learn what makes them look the best.

Great analysis! Just wish we could have done it with Regency Era accurate styles. The mess that was the lack of even attempting to be historically accurate for the main characters was very distracting even for someone who doesn’t know specific fashion history but just has an idea. If the show had followed the books it would be more understandable why the fashion and hair changed so much as it takes place when Penelope is 26 and not still in her seasons. This season gave me mixed feelings but historical accuracy aside, they did Penelope’s glow up rather well.

Season 3 is the worst for me. Poorly done and all over the place. Not enough focus on the main couple and their story was abysmally rushed. Pen and Collin were both insufferable to me, their love confessions were just overly sweet gibberish cringe and collin didn't even standout as a main guy. Forced "gay/open relationships" crap on benedict that doesnt exist in the books for the sake of just shoving the lgbtq agenda and it was done in a tactless way AND not to mention changing Francesca's husband's cousin from a Michael to a Michaela, who she's supposed to love after her husband's death to completely obliterate the book and frans infertility struggle just to create another cringey forced lgbtq trope 😐. Shitty reunion of Lady Danbury and her brother after years of hating each other solved in under 3 minutes with a stupid apology, not to mention the random rl of her brother with violet BRUH. the uncovering of lady whistledown was SO lackluster and the queen just brushes it off that quickly after 3 gruesome seasons of trying to uncover her identity. I can keep on going about how much it literally sucked and if it stays like that.. yikes. I hope we keep up the energy of the previous seasons. 😐
