The Two Most Common Ways Criminals Launder Money
April 1 (Bloomberg) --- If you were a criminal, you used to need a whole network of people to wash all of your illicitly made cash clean, but now, all it takes is a few clicks onyour mouse. Setting up a phony shell corporation in the cayman islands is easier than applying for a rental lease in NYC. Bloomberg Businessweek's Sam Grobart takes a look at all the modern techniques criminals are using to try to get away with it all. (Source: Bloomberg)

you dont need to put music on educational video like this. we dont come to hear the music but to hear the explanation.

It's really not that hard to move money as this video makes it out to be. Just set up a "counseling" or "consulting" or "life coaching" service and make fake logs and receipts of customers. You can write huge bills for a few hundred to a few thousand dollars each and never have to disclose information about your clients because of therapist-patient privilege. You'd be paying tax on that income though. Otherwise, you could just hire a smuggler with a charter jet and fly suitcases full of money into Dubai. Once you're there, buy some real estate. If that doesn't interest you, you could always fly to India, get a fake notarized death certificate for about $500 from a certified doctor and then take your money and go live in a peaceful little village in the Himalayas and pay for everything in cash.

A lot of “pro gamblers” are laundering. They file taxes as professional gambler and claim they make money through gambling and poker. I know somebody that does this. Lot of laundering in casinos.
I came in the comments to see if anyone was roasting the audio 💀 Not disappointed
Gt rid of the background noise so we can hear what you're saying. So I watched the video and came away with nothing because I didn't hear pretty much anything you said. But nice graphics, so there's always that.
Irritating background song...
You forgot the biggest ways to launder money. Joins the IRS or CIA.
PRETEND that im a criminal? Yeah sure..
Pro tip: Just get a job to prove you have a legitimate income, and what you can't pay for in cash (eg mortgage/rent, utilities, etc) you pay with check. Everything else, like gas, food, little things, you pay with the dirty money. Easy peasy lemon squeazy.

how is taking money to a casino laundering? it's $100k in and say $100k out. where is the laundering? it's still cash when you cash out your chips
@kyoshokev
8 жыл бұрын
+ulli1235 yeah but you don't actually have to sit at the casino table to do that. you could just say you won it at the casino. the IRS isn't going to view the casino video footage, and if they did they'd see that like most gamblers you would place lost more than you'd win.
@Robert399

I think you go in, buy lots of chips, play a few small games (probably losing a bit of money), then cash all the chips back in and claim you won big at the casino. I'm not sure if casinos keep records of the games or of every purchase of chips because this obviously wouldn't work if they do.
@Shadowboxe
7 жыл бұрын
I think you give I think you give friends/associates $2.000 each they're allowed to lose up to $500 then you collect all their chips and cash in at least $7.500 now you have a receipt for your $7.500 win. So you could wash a significant amount of money this way weekly.
@ZeroKage69

The point was that what you cash out from a table game is not tracked on any documents. You can sit down and hand the dealer $5k in dirty money and they'll hand you $5k in chips. You play for a bit then leave the table and turn the chips back into cash. The cashier assumes you won at a table game and is none the wiser on your dirty money and you leave with clean casino bills. You are required by law to report your winnings, and so the government will assume that is how you earned it, by winning.

I don't care if the music is too loud. This video is to the point and easy to understand. Stop your complaining
Thanks for the advice
Thanks Bloomberg,You just helped my transfer my *Ahem* “Large Windfall”
It's so easy it's not funny. Just spend the money anywhere you can. Grocery and department stores almost never questions where the money comes from. Or buy some gold and resell it a few days later. Buy a bunch of lottery tickets and cash out the winners, just not at the same store. Granted you may lose close to half for each deck of lottery tickets you get, but you may turn up a large winner. Just don't put the money in a bank account.

How do you not fade the background music? I couldn't hear anything that was being said.
Money laundering is like the thumb that can touch all 4 fingers, it is something you need if a criminal no matter your racket but the thing is so little is retraced so my question is can it be prevented, stopped, prosecuted with higher sentences, can more cash be seized before its laundered, and how methods vary how does that influence that influence the outcome of the process from a investigative point of view.🧠
this was a cool video. liked the vidusls
Bloomberg why is the sound effect louder than the voice.
With the offshore company don't you need a bill for every transaction? So, you would need to fake bills. But what typ of business should that company be so you can transfer money there all the time?

Background music is waaaaay too loud. Background means in the background. I guess this was actually foreground music competing with the foreground narration. As The king of money laundering says... “SAD!!“

Get a debit card, drop anything under 10k on there (not in one shot) and you can pretty much uber yourself anywhere and pay for anything that isn't too crazy. Also, you can live indefinitely via Hotels that take cash or Airbnb's in a very nice city. Fly to Dubai, and buy plenty with cash there. Don't ever want to leave your city? Cool, have everything delivered to you. Fancy restaurants, hotels, clothes and jewelry, can be bought with pure, hard, cash.
