As the period of the Old Testament drew to a close, God again began to speak to His people; sometimes words of encouragement and comfort, often words of warning and judgment. These typically short prophetic books were addressed to the people of both Israel and Judah, and written by a group of twelve men known to us today as the minor prophets. But the messages God brought to His people through them were certainly not minor, but instead remain some of the most important and timely books in the Scriptures, and they bring to today’s Church an outsized message of conviction, rebuke, and hope in the midst of adversity.
