SPOILER RANT: So many useless "keys" in the movie: the mannequin Grandmother; the girl mentioning cyanide in apple seeds; Kurt Cobain's death on the news; the severed hand; the boy's fascination with spiders.... All those things had NOTHING to do with the movie later on. No call-backs or references to those things whatsoever... And why did Quinn just suddenly decide to kill that caretaker after he's been dead all that time?... I think the writers just pushed themselves into a corner

  • @ubaldoa.rosario1832

Mark totally agree, they placed good keys within the story that didn’t served a purpose. It’s like the writers didn’t know why they were writing about. With such a long set up I expected an epic climax. It is truly an incomplete movie.

To be clear he didnt kill her after he died. In about the ending of the movie, Kate starts reading the book that the old Nanny wrote in. She talks about how weird Quinn was around her and specifically makes it clear that he obviously isnt dead. In the movie Ms.Grosse or however you spell her name, clarified that she made sure Quinn was dead BECAUSE he killed the old nanny. And I fairly think the other non important points in the movie was just for entertainment and to show how smart Flora is, and how the house including Miles is all together a bit strange.

Panic! Trash I just came from seeing it. Chris is right. The movie is dog shit... I’m surprised he didn’t give it an “F” honestly. The ending is bad because.... It introduces an element where maybe she’s suffering from a mental illness and it’s not ghosts. It LITERALLY acts like we’re about to incorporate that theme into the plot but... it just ends and not in a good open interpretation, ambiguous type of way. Like... it just ends. Although we got the understudy for Grisabella and it wasn’t... perhaps as well done as it would have been otherwise. The one part of the show I was genuinely excited about. 😂 Such is life. Luckily, I doubt he and mom will go ahead and rent it. Maybe it’ll come to a streaming service they have and they can feast their eyes upon the mistake I guided them away from. We can only hope. iWasTheTurkey I just came from seeing it. Chris is right. The movie is dog shit... I’m surprised he didn’t give it and “F” honestly. The movie was horrible.

If you want a different horror kind of horror movie watch Midsomer. However it also has an ambiguous ending. Not as much as the turning though. Midsummer focuses a lot of ritual and community and you will have to think but also not over think. It is not for everyone. I didn’t understand it at first but after watching some videos and understood it i thought it was great. It is two and a half hours though so there’s that. I did Turn of the Screw in high school as part of Gothic literature. The whole point of the book was that it was up to interpretation, what was going on as well as the ending. We watched a few movie adaptations of it, and they were different from each other because the director would either lean more towards the governess being a reliable narrator with the creepy kids or completely delusional where the kids were actually just innocent kids who were screwing with her for fun. It's fascinating to compare them tbh, but that's the lit student in me.

Hi, Chris, love the reviews. Have you considered doing reviews of actors? A whole vid on one actor, highlighting his range, development, highs and lows etc. I got the idea from your review of The Lighthouse: who could think of Robert Patterson turning in such a performance after Twilight? If you like the idea and run with it, how about making Mads Mikkelson your first subject? You mentioned him briefly in your review of Casino Royale, the film which most Americans know him from. His filmography is incredible and so varied that I think films like the Green Butcher and Men and Chicken would astound his 'American' audience. Anyway, keep up the great work. I get most of my "what to watch next" decisions from you. Many thanks.

It basically starts to end as you expect and then it rewinds to a previous part before the "ending" and it leads you to believe she was going crazy like her mom and it was all in her head. Zero explanation or direction. Basically end where you started confused and pointless.

I actually said “I’d like to wait for a Stuckmann review first (provided he does one) before I plop down money for it.” Thankfully you did, and now I most assuredly will not go. :-) Thank you for saving me $12 and a couple of hours of my life.

Spoiler warning!! The film begins building a decent and unsettling climax but it then pulls a 47 meters down and reveals the last 20 minutes of the movie was all just a vision of the main character. She was just insane the whole time and it then just ends abruptly like 2 minutes after this is revealed.

For the people who are thinking about watching this film: It honestly isn’t that bad just not memorable and the ending was the worst part of the film since it seemed like they stopped the movie at the middle but I think they’ll maybe do a second film so maybe that’s why the ending is bad?
