Averages are a funny thing. If ten people take a test, and the results are 100, 95, 95, 90, 90, 85, 80, 80, 80, and 0 then nine of those people can accurately say they score above average (which is 79.5). Likewise, since it's safe to assume there are more people in the world with one or no arms then there are 3 armed people, it would be accurate for any 2 armed person to claim they have an above average number of arms. And all that being said... that does sound like something the average person would say.

I remembered when I was still back in my native born first country before coming to the US, there was once I was in the unforgettable conversation with a woman, a "friend" or "a colleague" if I should put her as is, I don't want to be rude to put her as stupid, but I do think she is.........she tiredlessly argue with me cordless phone are only cell phones! NO, cordless phone can also be cell phones and also landline phone. But, back then at least 25 years ago when landline phones were still used widespread, and cell phones or mobile phones were just at the start; people have two types and cordless phones were just started to put into use. At that time, I see cordless phones were both landline and cell phones or back then people call mobile phones. However, my colleague fiercefully argued with me just to shut my mouth so she could win the argument that cordless phones, to her opinion, was only used for mobile phones! I of course shut up, and she "convincingly" believed she won the argument!

I didn't even think it could be until I read this comment section, and hell. I can relate AF. Lmao the amount of times I've been called "stubborn" because I didn't believe something someone told me blindly is ridiculous 😂😂😂 "You know you're wrong" *proceeds to show no evidence of how they are right* "but you won't say it because you can't stand to loose" does this sound familiar to any one of you?

Learning that you are wrong takes also trusting that someone else is right. Many people are paranoid and also suspect of people in positions of authority to say that they are right. Being wrong in history both evolutionarily and culturally meant you were worthless, stupid and inferior. This way of thinking does not encourage people to admit being wrong even when they realize they are wrong. It encourages them to double down. Adages, as funny as they are, like what Carlin said, don't really help in the long run. If it's already hard enough to change your mind because of crystalizing, culture makes it impossible. We don't think it's okay to be wrong, so people will deny, defend and excuse being so.

These persons live in a one dimensional world. And since they can only see one concept to them this is solid and of course they will do everything in their power to hold onto this concept and they never question it because to them there isn't anything there to question. The intelligent person I call this a AWARE PERSON has the ability to look at the same subjects from different sides- exhamain it, question it and because this person can see more than one side -- come to realise that it is possible there is more to this subject what she/ he has seen so far has found out about and that is the reason for doubt.

Akın Akçam - I’ve always seen this quote attributed to Bertrand Russell, though his exact words - in a 1933 essay about the rise of Nazis in Germany, “The Triumph of Stupidity” - differed slightly: “The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” Charles Bukowski’s actual quote (from 1989) differed from this even more: “But the problem is that bad writers tend to have the self-confidence, while the good ones tend to have self-doubt.” Regardless, wise words, for sure!

I very much believe that the simple fact of not saying anything can settle a battle of arguments, The simple fact of saying nothing is a source of know-how not to confront the person in front of them and show them that no matter who is more right, we all have our own challenges. Otherwise, there is always the possibility of trying to understand the person in front of you. You can accept it, you can hate it too, but the truth is always somewhere. There are always two or more people dancing the waltz, as many for two or more who confront each other. When we try to understand the person in front of us, perceptions become clearer and help improve our view of things. It is important to remember that a fact and an opinion are different!

There's a lot of information on this and other cognitive biases in Wikipedia if you want to check them out. On the other hand, if you're asking if I personally can provide scientific evidence, I only have my personal experiences and as they are not taking place in a controlled environment with measurable and quantifiable results, they cannot be considered evidence. However, they mostly do conside with the scientific theories, so I tend to trust them- when they don't, I just dig deeper.

That was the spirit of my comment... if one can know they're being an idiot, they can start working on not being one BTW if you know another word for me to use instead of "capacity", would you let me know?
