The only reason this is a problem in the first place is because the higher ups at Nintendo are failing to give their big titles the money (this includes resources and developers) and time they need. All of the big gaming companies are trying so desperately to one-up each other that they're trying to see how little effort they can spend on a game that will get the most money. Look no further than the concept of battlepasses, Overwatch 2 and several of the most recent Pokemon games. I'm pretty sure there's way more games and scummy tactics than I've named here too. So with this information I'm just gonna support passionate developers and not give any more money to companies that have so much money they think they're above the art of video games. It's a damn shame that so many beloved game titles are deteriorating because of negligence from greedy leadership.

Well, don't blame the developers/employees of Nintendo, blame publishers/localizers of Nintendo for doing this. Also, Hisashi Nogami (the producer of Splatoon franchise) confirmed that Splatoon 3 will be the last Splatoon game of inklings vs octarians saga.

Any amount of this would probably be guess work anyways, but even then, I feel like Nintendo is one of the better ones company wise. They are willing to delay games if they feel like the game needs or wants it. ( Animal Crossing New Horizons and Tears of the Kingdom being the most notable examples ). Even then, I don’t remember any first party Nintendo games that were buggy beyond imagination. ( Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the only one that comes to mind but that’s managed by the Pokémon company and less by Nintendo I think so I wouldn’t really count it ). I think this is more a product of the mentality of “we can add more content/fix bugs with dlc and patches” that’s been floating around recently. The splatoon series is very bad on this front from what I remember. Splatoon 1 on launch felt like a demo, and splatoon 2 was just a little better. If the people developing the series thought that this is literally not enough for the game, I think that they could have gotten a reasonable delay. There is still a aspect of needing to hit reasonable deadlines and investor’s meetings and stuff so delaying for a long time isn’t really possible unfortunately, but to me Nintendo doesn’t seem to be the type of company to be as cut throat with strict development times and crunch culture as some other companies out there. I think the Pokémon company is a better example to critique even within the Nintendo sphere.

As much as I love the game, I completely agree with everything you said. I need to admit that 3 was my first game in the series, I started with the test fire and bought the game at launch. The fomo you mentioned was exactly me, I wanted to get everything in the catalogs and that meant me constantly playing because I didn’t want to miss out. I’m pretty much burned out on the game in general, when Future Redeemed and TotK came out I was glad to have something new to play. I rarely played anything else bc I was too focused on Splatoon and now it’s wearing off on me. I did play a bit when Sizzle Season launched but I went back to TotK a few hours later. I love a lot of aspects of this game, but there’s a lot of fixes needing to be made too. And I know you can turn them off, but I’m glad I don’t have to look at the plaza posts as much. Another thing to note is that Scorge Gorge and Eeltail Alley looked sooo different in the early trailers from what we got at launch... I wonder what happened in the devs team to make such drastic changes to these maps cause they looked so much bigger than what we got now. But well next season is the first anniversary and I hope that we get more fleshed out updates from there on with major map changes like The Reef back in 2, major themed Splatfests like Frosty Fest from 2, maybe even 3rd kits and so on which kinda sucks not to have it since the beginning but I guess by releasing it like this it keeps the game more alive. I know you mentioned teams being stretched for development, and I think it's safe to assume that the size/quality of content each season is going to increase once side order releases. Also I do want someone to correct me if I'm wrong but around the time New Horizons came out didn't Nintendo say they where gonna move away from developer crunch. I think it's a good thing to not crunch the developers but that could possibly mean that they're choosing to have less new content each season to help with not crunching them. It is disappointing, and at the size Nintendo is they could definitely higher more developers or get outside developers to help to get more content out. but I'm happy that (hopefully) the developers aren't being worked to death. Also I agree this game could by far be the best if it had more of the content the other games had.

First I just want to give props for being one of the few videos I've seen actually point out the nearly complete change in staff Splatoon 3 has. It almost feels like the Monolith Soft Veterans knew they created a really good base for anyone to pick up from where they left off, but lacking that direction from so much of the old staff can really change where a game goes next. You bring up a lot of silly reasons as to why the development might be troubled, but I'm not gonna focus on that. You bring up a really important point that more people should recognize. The devs really are stretching themselves thin. Splatoon 2 was not trying to dish out all of this other content at you and that allowed them to focus more on weapons, stages, and modes. Not to mention, they made changes to the engine for this game. That was super ambitious and wasn't necessarily needed for this release, but these devs still did it.I feel like they're probably playing catch up to what they initially had laid out for Splatoon 3. Plus, the fomo shenanigans with modes like Big Run, Eggstrawork, Challenges, and Splatfests all need to be keep up with. If they fall behind it will look real bad for their bottom line. Plus, they're making another singleplayer campaign in the background of all this! I don't doubt that the devs are listening though, but people also need to realize that the devs can't just stop working, sit down, and absorb all the criticism their game is getting. They're still working on it! You think after they finish their shift at work they want to keep working by trying to brainstorm ways to address criticisms of the community? Nah they want to sleep! Still though, there are people whose job is entirely to relay feedback from consumers over to the dev team, but the feedback goes through multiple layers of employees before it reaches the devs that specifically would make a change about it. Plus, addressing feedback will inevitably be put on a back burner because they already have a whole schedule laid out and they can't suddenly change that just appease their consumers. I'm rambling, but what I'm trying to get across here is that this is incredibly complicated and addressing feedback will be inevitably slow. These people have content to create and schedules stick to. No matter what we say it doesn't matter unless the devs are willing to sacrifice something on their schedule to focus on the problems we as a community are seeing. And again, sacrificing anything will look bad for their bottom line or whatever game design document they put together well before this game released.

  • @ShurikanBlade

    @ShurikanBlade

    Жыл бұрын

Most of these issues are problems because they set themselves to strict schedules in the first place. Splatoon 3 is the first game with this seasonal model which is what kinda pressures them to get it all done regardless of quality. Like Splatoon 2's 3.0 and 4.0 updates were HUGE additions to the game but they were released when they were ready not because it was on a schedule. Meanwhile with this seasonal schedule they kinda forced themselves into this worse way of working. Obviously i know criticism would take time to reach the devs but i feel like they had it right with Splatoon 2 where they didnt abide by a seasonal schedule and simply released big updates when they were done. This way they could actually take feedback and have time and not rush through anything.

I understand if the devs are busy with other projects, but there are certain aspects of Splat 3 that still seem like a relatively easy fix. People don't like the shape of the new stages? Then stop shaping them that way. They even addressed this in an interview, and their response was "The shape of the stages isn’t something we decide on ahead of time." Like... wtf. It initially surprised me when you pointed out how the Splat 3 team was basically a brand new group of people, but it actually makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. I 100% agree, and since the first Season I have felt and noticed SO MUCH that seemed off, lazy, missing, held back, and/or lacking from what the game could be. The first thing that I noticed that really raised my eyebrows was the character creation and how they removed Boy/Girl specific hair and clothing and allowed everyone to wear and have everything. I know some out there automatically think this is means "something more" but what it actually shows you is how LAZY and/or rushed they were in making new customization choices. The first thing I thought of when I heard and saw this was "wow that's extremely lazy" because it is the illusion of giving a player more when we weren't. They only added TWO new hair styles for each character in total, and course eyebrow choice and more eye colors but those are minor upgrades. The reason the hair and clothing being all available is lazy is due to the fact that it doesn't require the devs to make new and matching styles that fit well together with each character's specific sex and body type. Guess what, the girl styles look awful on the boys and vice versa. There is a saying "less is more" meaning that when a limit or restriction is put upon a project it helps breed creativity and ingenuity. By keeping the standard of Boy and Girl styles separate we would have gotten MORE to added to the game that would have matched with the world and lore and the new addition of Splatville. Now having a few neutral styles for hair and clothing isn't bad, but nothing replaces having a unique style for each individual character that makes you want to try each. This is just one example but to me it is a HUGE warning sign, this isn't a GTA or Saints Row 2 when you do alot for gags. The maps alone are a huge topic all by themselves, we can all agree that nearly every map in Splatoon 3 is either too dense, bottle necked, no fun or good side routes, or too small and sometimes all thee above. I think what got the most attention in Splatoon 3 was the campaign and story, regardless of the multiplayer being the big focus, the campaign and story are technically the most important part of Splatoon which is underrated. Even in the campaign though I noticed things like Callie and Marie having less animation than Shiver and Frye at times, and even their eyes being too big for their heads almost as if they forgot to resize them to fit their new shape. Don't get me wrong I love Splatoon 3 but for every two steps it takes it takes another step back. Let's look at Splatville, an amazingly cool place that needs to be more open and expanded as each update comes and outside of opening the train station we have gotten nothing. But what have we gotten instead, instead of opening and expanding Splatsville they lazily added back Inkopolis Booyah Base and most likely Inkopolis Square. Is Inkopolis Hub different at all? No not really, infact it seems to have even less. Not only don't we have any minigames, we don't have Splatoon 1's campaign, Callie and Marie are back in their Idol news outfits in their old studio yet don't do the news while we are there, their Splatfest performance is fantastic and I love it but that all that is new. I mean what a cheap ploy, I would much rather Splatsville opening up more and if Callie and Marie where there doing something in Splatsville besides exploring and watching Alterna. I mean we are in a COMPLETELY NEW AREA and we are redoing the past, and let that go into my next point about Side Order and how it follows the same disappointing pattern of treading old ground. I mean, the devs are REALLY yelling at us that they wanted Order to win the last Splatoon 2 Splatfest. Instead of exploring Splatsville with Deep Cut on a new adventure like restoring Craig to normal and looting temples and dungeons, we are going BACK to Splatoon 2 with Pearl and Marina with ANOTHER expansion campaign staring them but this time lets do a supposed "WHAT IF" scenario. Like, we ALREADY did an expansion with Pearl and Marina, it is Shiver Frye and Big Man's time to shine and lead the new story. We have already gotten a Boss that was all about Order, what else says Order and Control like Mr Grizz and his plan to mutate and enslave everyone? I mean, almost all the maps in Splatoon 3 are orderly and boring as if the Chaos was sucked away from Splatoon 1&2. Did Order secretly win? Where is the rough and chaotic attitude of Splatoon 3, the only people who have it are Deep Cut. They said they wanted to make Splatoon 3 more like Splatoon 1 well they need to work doubly hard then. I know Side Order will be fun but unless it does something truly good and new to help Splatoon 3 that subverts are expectations then it will just be business as usual. I have a feeling the trailer for Side Order is tricking us and it will be so much more, and if they add anyone new to be playable I hope it is either different types of Inklings and Octolings or, my choice, Cuttlelings. I hope we get a Wave 3&4 and let them focus on Splatsville and Deep Cut, I want to go on an adventure into the Splatlands, I want to see monsters and beasts of the wasteland and raid and loot dungeons, abandoned places, temples, learn about Deep Cuts clans and family, fight rival clans in the desert, unearth Inkling Mummies that could help restore Craig Cuttlefish to normal, and more. There is so much to go over for Splatoon 3, so many topics from the big and the small to dissect about why it fails in many departments. All of it can be fixed and should be fixed, and I hope as time goes on it will be.

It sucks, yes, but it keeps players playing the game consistently which I guess is good in some statistical way. I honestly don't really agree with this video. It definitely seems pretty harsh, and I wouldn't really consider the catalog "grindy" because I can usually finish it in under a month. A lot of the stuff could've been delayed to after the launch to ensure the systems work properly, like how the new series ranking 5win/3loss system transferred to x battles had to be tested. The game was not delayed it was still released in summer (September is partially summer). Also the Splatoon developer team is different from the other development teams of the games you mentioned so it really wouldn't play a factor even if they are supported by the same company. Of course the game is not perfect, though. If all modes had been added upon launch when not as many people had the game, queue times could've been significantly longer as well. Finally, a lot of this video is just completely assumed, and you just don't know what is really going on behind the scenes

-If it takes you close to a month to finish something in a game then imo its kinda grindy and the catalog isnt the only thing like that. Theres also the Tableturf rewards which you receive from leveling up in tableturf, the salmon run gear which can require you to get up to 999 Gold scales, badges requiring you to spend absurd amounts of money or requiring 1000+ matches to obtain per weapon and even just trying to get max level is an unfair grindy system. If im correct the highest level person in splatoon is level 400 currently and the max level is 999 With the way the XP system works in splatoon they are only 1/4th of the way to max level XP-wise. Its honestly quite absurd how much stuff forces you to take months and more to achieve. I've played the game near daily since launch and almost exclusively played Flingza roller and still havent gotten the Golden Tenta missile badge because it requires me to win 1200 matches. all for one badge. -Splatoon 2 had working systems and the game is already on switch. They didn't really have to revamp anything or they couldve just not announced the game as early on. Its clear they needed more time like how can you justify no online tableturf or no jukebox or the inability to change gear while keeping queue or even canceling queue. These are basic features. -I put an asterisk stating that its unconfirmed to have been delayed but it 99% was delayed. Every Splatoon game was released in early summer. Furthermore, Nintendo usually releases 1 game a month and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was already slated for September 2022. Later on Splatoon was given the release date of September 8th and a few days later Xenoblade Chronicles 3's release date was changed to July 2022. That cant be a coincidence. Splatoon 3 was most likely going to release in July since Xenoblade was already slated for September. No other 1st party nintendo game was slated for for July that year but miraculously the game that was already slated for Septemeber was moved up to July a few days after Splatoon was confirmed to release on September 8th. No other Nintendo game to my recollection has ever had its release date moved up earlier in the year. -Yes the Splatoon dev team is a different team. The two dev teams are indeed both owned by Nintendo but MonolithSoft is a SUPPORT studio. Which means they actively send their own staff to support other developer teams. They helped build the overworld in BOTW and TOTK and theyre not part of the Zelda team. The argument i was making is that since MonolithSoft was working on 5 big projects at once the amount they could support at the individual level was very minimal. Isnt it odd that the 3 games on switch that got delayed were all being developed at the same time and were all being supported by the same support studio? It is near impossible to be just a coincidence. Furthermore, with Xenoblade 3 releasing earlier that means MonolithSoft can send more people to help support Splatoon 3's development. -Splatoon 3 sold 3.46 million units on the first weekend in japan ALONE. Queue times would not be an issue especially because in less than a month Splatoon 3 outsold the entirety of Splatoon 1's sales. So i dont really see how this is a valid argument. There were times where i was gonna go more in depth in the video to the degree shown above but i cut it out because it seemed way too specific and boring. Yes obviously most of what I said is assumed because we will never know what happened behind those closed doors but I just wanted to make this video to show people that yeah maybe this game had some trouble with development. I still really enjoy the game but it couldve been more imo.

@@ShurikanBlade @ShurikanBlade @ShurikanBlade 1. Nah not really. Grinding is when you play extra to finish something, and the catalog can be completed easily when just playing for fun. 2. The badges are meant to take a long time. I can maybe agree on the 999 gold scales one, but the rest are meant to be shown off as hard earned rewards. They give no advantage anywhere, and can be obtained by all players for free. There is nothing wrong with any of that, and making them easier to get decreases their value. Id say it's just a skill issue if you cant get them. 3. I mean, thats an interesting pattern but it has a small sample size. Just because 2 games were released early summer doesnt mean the 3rd one has to be. In the end, splatoon 3 still had the initial planned release time of summer of 22. 4. The devs had no way of knowing that splatoon 3 would sell that much before the launch, we dont know if they had pre order stats, and even then many things are ranked locked in the game so queue times could possibly be high for players there first even with the splatoon 2 data transfer

Splat 3 is a weird game for me. I wouldn't say it was disappointing but for how much I was excited for it's release, I've barely played it outside of the Splatfests and the first season. I have 150 hours in the game which, while a lot, pales to a lot of other people and to the near 800 I had by the end of 2. I don't think it's solely the game's fault, I was a teenager during 2 and I'm now an adult doing a bachelor's degree, so I don't have as much time for games as I used to, but something about 3 has always felt off to me and it's been hard to get back into after the inital honeymoon phase of the first season. Tbh I don't think what's helped me is that now you can no longer play Splatfests with people in other regions, even worldwide ones. A majority of my friends who play are American (I'm in Europe) and not being able with them really takes out a lot of fun I had in 2. (And on the topic since it was a factor, I hate to blame the community but _wow_ was it toxic during the Pokémon fest. I was on Team Grass because I like Turtwig and, as the biggest casual going, I think this was the first fest where I genuinely didn't enjoy myself at all with how often Fire and Water threw matches so we couldn't play. As someone who works in contracted software development, I can tell you that your theory doesn't make much sense - hear me out: The way contracted companies work is they are given a task to accomplish within a certain amount of time with a set amount of resources. For example, Nintendo is going to contract the server code to a company, give them 6 months to accomplish it, and choose how many employees are going to work on it. Because everything is predetermined, it is usually impossible for a contractor to have to spread some resources too thin to fill contracts. It is also worth accounting for the fact that not delivering the finished product in time will cost a lot to the contractor, and if they'd have had issues for 2 or 3 years on half of their contracts, I doubt the company will still be afloat by now. So what do I think happened? If anyone got stretched, it is Nintendo, who then turned toward contractors to have something to release in time. Splatoon 3 comes quite early post-COVID, and with a bunch of games already delayed like you mentioned, Nintendo needed some income, and had to release this game, despite it needing more development time.

  • @ShurikanBlade

This game truly feels like wasted potential in so many ways. I'm a Splatoon competitive player for 4 years, I have over 3k hours on Spla2n. I despised playing double missile and shooters every match whenever I wanted to play a tournament. I hated stingray design. And despite being an armor player, I hated its design too. And yet... I'd say I had more fun on that game. Splatoon 3 is finally warming up to me, but it still feels so fucking weird how FOMO is written all over it. The catalogues, every new SR event being once every a few months at best, Splatfests (and tricolor) being rarer than they ever were, Challenges being limited to a few hour spams for some reason, so many badges and SR rewards being borderline impossible to get under two years. And in general the weapon and kit philosophy haven't been great either, and the seasonal updates have been lacking imo. I decided to learn overfishing (competitive SR) in Splatoon 3 because the mode was made a thousand times better in this game and even this is disappointing sometimes. I don't understand why Challenges aren't an extra mode that rotates every 2h. I don't understand why Eggstra Work isn't an extra way to play SR that rotates every week or month or so. I don't understand why we can't have Big Run and Splatfests in the same month. And I don't understand why even the leaked new SR mode seems like it's gonna be limited again. Every new addition feels like it goes so fast and like it's trying its best to artificially increase people's playtime, and I genuinely don't get it. I had fun in Splatoon 2 by playing League every day with my team and it was completely organic... Splatoon never needed FOMO to work. It's ironic how they're actually cutting people's playtime short by making these fun, interesting things limited instead of a feature - so people actually only play on the event weekends :/

Heck, even until Spl2 deathbed I played unconventional comps with Tent and Carbon as my teammates and got away with it against quad shooter, which's not something that early Spl3 and its double machine/double splash could brag about We're getting a concrete and more diverse and healthy meta now with late Fresh Season and Sizzle Season, but those long six months of feeling awful playing something that once brought me so much joy despite all the adversities were actually unbearable, way more than seeing vjet/kshot/zap for the 4th set in a row in spl2

I've always felt off about Splatoon 3, ever since Chill season, like something big was missing. I'd watched and dreamed of playing since I first watched a playthrough of Octo Expansion, and even when I first saw the game on my friend's Wii U, I thought it was pretty neat. Splatoon 3 lacks the charm, expression and free-spirited nature that the past games had, even in the presentation of their updates. Things like in-universe explanations for map changes both post-launch and between trailers and launch are absolutely nowhere to be seen, we just randomly got the "Poles and Depression" update and drastically worsened maps, presumably all of the new maps were much better like Scorch and Eeltail, but after the new team took over from S1-2's team they presumably reworked the maps, hence why there's some, *ahem* functional physics on the Mahi Mahi balloons (that map seems the most rushed to "ruin" it IMO). I just want this game to be good, but I know it never will be, because all of the decisions that bring it down are purposeful. Bad maps aren't flukes, they're intentionally bad for some unknowable reason. The lack of content suspiciously lines up with juuust enough time to give every weapon a second kit by halfway through next year, leaving enough time for all of the Shooters to get third kits, but likely very little else. Even the bad balancing could be chalked up to an inexperienced team, but nine months without even nerfing the main weapon of the strongest kit in the game in both the west and JP comp scenes is suspicious, when Machine and Stamper were NUKED in the last few patches. Don't even get me STARTED on the design of Challenges. It just feels like every GOOD decision and feature was a mistake, was just a byproduct of the devs needing an excuse to ruin their own game, not even for profit, but just because they want to have some excuse to update the game and keep people playing.

Keep in mind this was all in made in the span of 4 years which to me is pretty short for game development. The near complete change of hands in the dev team actually caught me off guard, it does make me wonder where the old dev team was reallocated to if they had a new team make this game. I've heard from some people who've worked for or were contracted by game devs talk about how much higher ups and budget can dictate the development of a game, so this game feels like a victim of strained man-power and meeting slightly realistic release dates that coincide with seasonal demand with all things considered since Monolithsoft did help push out a TON of games. I just wonder how much this game has left to give after Side Order comes out and IF they'll have room to tweak things to be less FOMO and cookiecutterish once they get a majority of the planned content released, if the development schedule and budget allows for it. This is just my speculation tho and kudos to you for bringing this discussion up!

As someone who started playing splatoon with splatoon 3 i really REALLY liked the game between the story mode, the smooth and fast gameplay and the osts i couldn't not love the game since it was my first splatoon, I did not understand why people spat on certain aspects of the game like its maps for example. then the more I played the more I understood what was wrong and now that I saw this video I understand even better. to answer the video i think splatoon made a pokemon move. The game came out earlier than expected it should have been delayed. and I feel like the devs actually focused on story mode and then online mode (and there wasn't much time left). in fact I think that splatoon 3 is not a game in its own right let me explain: apparently the developers said that they wanted splatoon 3 to be like splatoon 1 but in what sense? Well I think that in the sense that if we consider that splatoon 1 is in fact a prototype of splatoon 2 then splatoon 3 is a prototype of splatoon 4. and this is confirmed when you say that the development team is new: in fact splatoon 3 is there only to give them the experience required to make a good splatoon game (at least, I hope). despite all that it's a shame that finally splatoon 3 is the best game in the series not for what it brings but for what it improves on the first games (and still it has ridiculous flaws that the first 2 games don't have not). I also find it a pity that Deep Cut is not highlighted more. I like them a lot and they have wasted potential too (even if their boss fights were very fun) all that to say that I hope that the 2nd year of the game will be better and that the devs will learn from their mistakes (sorry for misunderstandings, I use Google translate)

another thing that i find interesting is the update cycle. not here to just say "it's not enough i want MORE!" with the amount of content (just the game's balance patches for meta reasons) i feel if they keep going with the content amount they add for the previous couple seasons, this'll be a GREAT game, the problem i feel, currently IS: they set themselves up. either when they actually start releasing a bunch of new stuff, or the amount of content dwindles, people are going to get even angrier about the update schedule, because the content has either stayed the same in amount per season, or gotten worse. doesnt help that like most of the changes are just things from previous games, and i think it's obvious they're trying to ham every season up to be like the HUGE mid life update splat 1 and 2 got, but staggered for every 3 months, and while they're pulling it off right now, it's spread out enough to make people not like the cycle, and again, a lot of the big "POINT OF INTEREST" additions is stuff from older games, so it makes the actual additions a bit less valuable until we're used to ignoring when actual good new stuff comes out, or we're disappointed when they run out of things to pull from, and there's less content.

yeah thats something i dont like about this. Like some of these weapons, close, kits were in Splatoon 2 already and that game is on switch. It would be as simple as porting the code over to add it to the game. My biggest gripe is how this affects the more casual audience of Splatoon since they probably fell off already due to the schedule. Theyll never get to see the game reach its highest potential and imo thats a serious problem. This game introduced so many people to the series but it feels like most of those casual players are gone now. They probably couldve handled aspects of this game better but for some reason they tied themselves down to a strict schedule which just adds stuff from prior games.

Something might've happened there which slowed down everything considerably. And its not like the splatoon series hasnt listened to its community before, people thought that the story modes were very poor and they made something absolute amazing. I think like all the games of the series, we are just going to have to wait, just maybe a little longer this time Also ps but everything in catalogs you can get later through shops and shell out machine, no real need to feel like you missed out on much Lots of love fans, keep hopeful though

They 100% did not have to reveal the game a whole year and a half earlier. They shouldve waited until the game has what is has to offer now to launch the game. Translated by Google: I'm afraid that Splatoon 3 will waste its great potential in the long run because the latest updates don't help it much like: Weapon balance issues because shooters are still overpowered. Terrible design of maps that are more closed and with less freedom. And others.

I really hate the catalogue and all other limited systems, for the first time, it feels like a chore to play splatoon and that I have to play it, wether I feel like it or not. Don't get me wrong, I love splatoon, I just feel like this takes my free choice away from me, as I don't wanna miss out on items that are cool.

yeah i agree and yeah i know they dont actually go away forever but it like compels me to finish the catalog or try to beat out the shell out machine system for the items i want

OK regarding monolith... It has two groups, one dedicated for their own game development and the other dedicated for supporting Nintendo. So I don't regard monolith as a big problem. Though there's another thing could be mentioned:map philosophy, such as the scorch gorge in trailer and in final version. Regardless this mobile game like update cycle is really...meh.

  • @ShurikanBlade

If im correct monolith actually has 4 whole teams but team 1 is the Xeno team and team 2 is the support team. Although we will never know how it's divided we do know that because of botw XC2 was made with about 40 people only since they took people from team 1 as well. Which means that the amount of people distributed could depend on many factors and if they didn't take anyone from team 1 since they were working on XC3 then it just means the Splatoon dev team got less people from team 2 since since team 2 wouldve been divided within ACNH, TOTK, Pikmin 4 and Splatoon 3

The game definitely missed the mark with maps, golden scale frequency, or how much content there is in a season, but I don’t agree with many of your points. The battlepass system is just another thing games do to keep player numbers up, and splatoon’s catalog isn’t as scummy as the one in Warzone or OW2 by a longshot. Salmon run has been thriving, and although the maps leave a lot to be desired, the multiplayer is still just as addictive as it was in the first game.

  • @ShurikanBlade

I dont think we should commend battlepasses at all like its a pretty unfair system for those who want to play games casually. Plus i wasnt just referring to the catalog, some badges requiring you to spend like 10 million gold or winning 1200 matches with a special or buying every clothes item from a specific brand is absurd, all salmon run scale prices are high for no reason espceially cuz you get Cohozuna like every 4 matches IF YOU WIN tthen theres rewards and even emotes locked behind Tableturf levels. It just felt like a weird direction to take the series imo when Splatoon 2 was perfectly fine without any of this

@@ShurikanBlade Imo you don’t have to get everything in the game. One badge is related to getting top 10 in X rank, that’s gonna be limited to only tryhards by default. The gold ones are just for bragging rights and the regular colored ones are much more reasonable for casual players. And table turf only has 1 emote behind it - I still havent done it even because I already have emotes I like. You can get catalogue stuff from the shell-out machine if you miss the season (but only emotes/locker decoration/titles). I agree that the prices are insane, but they are trying to improve that by increasing the scales they give for big run. It’s alright to not enjoy the grindy aspects but keep in mind that you’re not really losing anything. Splatoon 2 didn’t have banners or badges to work towards long term, and tbh I prefer this to hoarding 9999999 coins by the end of the game

@@mrmwm5446 i mean i dont try to get everything either but like ive played SPlatoon 3 near daily these past months playing almost exclusively flingza roller and I still havent gotten the gold missile badge and its been 9 months. They shouldnt have to fix these issues in the first place imo they shouldve just made the the achievements way lower to begin with. I honestly prefered Splatoon 2 because ti felt more like i played it for the game instead of trying to slowly obtain these long time goals.

I'm pretty sure the Seasonal banners and seasonal titles cannot be obtained once its gone at least as of now. Also getting stuff from prior seasons was barely added in Fresh season and wasnt origianll in the game

  • @dystortr6779

The fomo you mention isn't real fomo as everything in the game can be gotten with enough time which, and like, what game dev doesn't want people playing their game a lot? FOMO only really counts for things like fortnite skins or seasonal gacha summons that are locked and are impossible to get without the event coming back.

  • @ShurikanBlade

well before Fresh season you actually couldnt get any of the old catalog stuff from prior seasons and I believe seasonal banners and titles that are gotten from the 1% drop from the shell out machine are still season exclusive and cant be obtained

Also imo Splatoons gameplay loop is fun enough to bring most people back especially with monthly events like Splatfests and Big Run but now it just feels grindy kinda like how animal crossing starts to feel like a chore after doing the same things over and over
