Omari Joseph I really wanted them to win, I still think they had a chance, but it was that stupid penalty call, that you know wasn't really a penalty. I'm not knocking France, otherwise I wouldn't have taken French in University, I wouldn't be interested in the culture and know a lot about the history, but, it seems their national team are cheaters. I'm a little peeved about it, but at the same time, what else can you do? Croatia did well, they have every right to be proud.

As a Serb, for all the issues Mamić undoubtedly created in the FA, there is no denying that Croatia's school of football and development and logic of transfers far exceeds anything anybody has done in the Balkans. There is a sense of national pride in terms of simplicity too and when you combine those 2 things you clearly see why the national team has done so well. There is a reason why guys like Kramarić and Rebić are shining at Hoffenheim and Frankfurt, while guys like Grujić and Marković here for all their immense talent are struggling. There is a reason why Modrić almost plays better for Croatia than Matić and Stanković ever did for Serbia. The coaching is also better and in general Croatia produced some of the best players in the former Yugoslavia (Boban, Prosinečki, Šuker, etc.) They have that gene for the game. I wont say i will be supporting Croatia because that would be dishonest of me but they absolutely deserve to win the whole thing. Great piece, COPA90

Because they were lying/hiding the truth during the trial of Zdravko Mamic, who is considered villain num1 among croatian football fans. Its a long and complicated story.

Mamic was/is a chairman of Dinamo Zagreb, and he is like some kind of mafia boss. During his time at Dinamo Zagreb players like Eduardo Da Silva, Modric, Badelj,..., all came to prominence and were sold, Dinamo really produced crazy amount of quality players who were later sold for huge profits. Dinamo is 3rd on the list of teams with most players at this world cup. So back to Mamic. He was a good at making profits, but he also stole a lot of money, he made really fishy contracts with young talents and eventually grew so strong that he got a lot of influence in croatian football association. So some people dislike Modric because he lied at the trial to try and save a criminal (only Luka knows the reasons, might be a big thanks for what Mamic did for his early career, might be fear, might be lack of balls).

Tackar. Det är inte ofta vi får komplimanger från DK. Det är sant, i både handboll och fotboll. Har stor respekt för Schmeichel. Trots förlusten så var han i sina kommentarer väldigt fair mot oss hela vägen till finalen. Det var inte illa vad ni gjorde i Sverige 1992 eller 2021. Ni skulle ha vunnit mot Eng på samma sätt som vi skulle ha vunnit mot FRa för att vi och ni var bättre än de stora länderna. Frågan är varför domarna inte kan stå emot att döma för de stora länderna på de små länders bekostnad ? Jag dock gillar mest vad ni åstadkom när ni för första gången kom in på världsscenen i fotboll det vill säga 1986. Ta inte illa vid dig men ni faktiskt fanns inte på fotbollskartan innan dess. Det stordåd ni uppvisade då och direkt spelade riktigt vackert mycket tack vare den fantastiska trion, och mina personliga danska favoriter vid namnet Elkjer, Lerby och den störste av de alla Michael Laudrup. Respekt.

Ti mali i nedorasli, mizerni stvore kojeg je na svijet donijela majka koja ga nije dobro odgojila, da li te plaćaju da siješ mržnju???? Da ste to prihvatili ja bih sada imamo djeda, baku i porodica mi ne bi bila rascjepkana. Imali smo priliku da se ne mrzimo i da prihvatimo mir na vrijeme, ne maštalo se o nekim ludim tezama i sad se treba nositi sa naši odlukama. I da poruka The ovom "Hrvatini" bilo bi dobro da malo proučiš povijest i da vidiš koliko je Srba udarilo temelje ovoj samostalnosti Hrvatske i da više smo braća nego što ti misliš, oprostit ću izrodu Hrvatskog naroda što su mi pucali na kuću, stavljali mine, bacali bombe jer to nisu radili svi Hrvati samo izrodi tog naroda za kojeg smatram da je bratski, da nam se bar očistiti mržnje odmah bi nam krenulo na svim poljima, šteta za svim izgubljenim životima na obe strane jer briga baš njihove porodice sada za Hrvatsku, Srbiju, BiH, Kosovo njihovih najmilijih više nema, iz pijeteta prema žrtvama molim sve usijane glave na Balkanu da više nikad ne pokušavaju ratovati sa svojom balkanskom braćom jer opet ništa nećemo dobiti, a nečije majke će biti ucviljene RAT VIŠE NIKAD!!!!!!!

Ok, let's check this out at the bright side. To Croatians, football is life. They won the second place, that's the best they got in ages. Second place, nothing bad happened when they returned home, it took them six hours to get to their final destination, and it usually takes half an hour. France got the gold, yet people got hurt. Now, I'm not hating France or anything, both teams did an amazing job at the finals. But Croatians *adore* football. They literally live for it.

This was too depressing. We dont view it this way mostly. Many of us knew this team could have won big cups for last 10 years and being in the finals in this one is not a big surprise for me. We have literally the best middle in football and that is what its all about and if we add the whole team playing as one victories come.

I don't think people considered Uruguay any better than Croatia. Not in Poland at least. Similar with Argentina. Many thought Croatia would win the group and possibly beat Portugal / Spain in quaterfinal.

The unity that the national team created is something that I hope stays in the hearts of the Croats.

Sucks for England, but we did as well as we could considering the inexperience of the team and the quality. Many of our fans expected us to get no further than group stage, so glad we got to the Semi-Final. Congratulations to Croatia, would be great if Croatia upset France and won the whole thing. Hopefully we meet again in the Euros to get revenge haha. Beautiful country and good people, be supporting them in the final.

Incompetent and lazy journalism, really just showing one side of the story to portray Croatia as a problem filled side. In reality, more than 95% of the people are behind their national team and you can be sure that Zdravko Mamic can’t be the only one to pull any strings. That’s naive. On that note, glad Croatia beat England!

This is a realistic picture of the football and social life in croatia. Average viewers in HNL (Croatia football league) is a tiny 500 people per match, where most of it comes from hajduk split games which have about 10k avg on matches. The stadiums are a shitpile, the croatian league is weak, "best" club in croatia didnt even score a single goal in europe league group stage. Everybody is poor and leaving Croatia to search for jobs.

We all love Croatia and our national team. More important, we believe in them and we support them from match to match. There is a bunch of idiots trying to destroy our national team thinking that they are doing moral thing. We have a old-communist political elite who uses these bunch of idiots + media to crush everything that will make a Croat a proud man. Actually, they did a marvelous job in motivating this team to go to the final!
