    There's so many great and often empty trails in just the peak District alone that would be fantastic for riding on that are excluded from us. Footpaths and bridleways that you rarely find people or horses on. I won't use them purely because it isn't legal and I don't want to be "that guy" who is ilegally interupting someone else's enjoyment of the lovely land we have at our disposal, but it is frustrating not being able to take those routes knowing that I would ride safely and considerately of others and likely wouldn't have an issue either way. Great video I hope some people take the message.

    Jord 2w.I'm in the state of Maine,US.We're a fairly rural state that's criss-crossed with old farm roads,most of which are privately owned.A lot of these roads are closed to any motorized vehicles due to a few idiots who won't respect the property.All it takes is a few assholes to ruin everything.

    They local councils always close byways in order to protect the surface etc... But never reopened the byways once they have recovered. Motor vehicles help keep the vegetation down stopping it from taking over the byways and making them impassable for everyone . Great vid 👍

    What a brilliant video. Well done 👍 and exactly how it is. We all stick to the legal road ride road legal bikes and 4x4s pay are tax. if walkers don’t like passing a bike or 4x4 for 30 seconds for there 12hr day then go walk on the other 99% of land where we are not aloud, it’s not rocket science

    Great video of the unfortunate situation. The Peak Park has a key policy around access for all, but as you say, access for all is increasingly access for all walkers and the tiny percentage of byways are being closed down through pressure from the majority and ignoring the policy. A further problem is that the TRO’s don’t really stop the problem; They stop the respectful riders, who follow the law and don’t ride the trails on their road legal, taxed and insured bikes, but there’s still those who ride illegally, and ignore the TRO’s and even ride footpaths that’s only strengthen the case of the walkers. I live in the Hope Valley, and my daily dog walk is up to the great ridge, where the erosion and damage from the hordes of walkers is causing a lot of damage, to which the answer is a ‘mend our mountains’ fund raiser to get it paved with slabs like the Mam Tor to Hollins Cross section, with no question of closing it due to the damage. Good luck with your initiatives and perhaps I’ll see you out on the legal trails one day.

    you're on 2 wheels... there's a block of people who will hate you sadly. I'm a cyclist and I think I've only had 1 motorcyclist related incident in the 10+ years I've been riding and that was when the guy was trying to catch up to his group and sprayed us with gravel. Not great but everyone makes a mistake every now and then. It's also strangely comforting to occasionally hear motors - If I've come off and need help you guys are much faster to get around the place than limping to the nearest road with a bike.

    If you don’t tell people where these lanes are they won’t get used , ive just got into trail riding and it’s near impossible to find lanes. Elan valley site has got it right , they have coordinates for the start and finish of byways. Not everyone wants to join the TRF or pay guides £150 to ride on lanes that anyone can use for free. Some want the freedom to ride without the bother of large groups. You are missing out on the support of thousands of bike riders and 4x4s by keeping these lanes secret. Think about it --- thousands of people go to football matches but not all of them have season tickets , millions of people like to go places to walk but how many are in the rambling association ? If these lanes were used by more bikes , the walkers might just decide to use the other 98% of the world and leave us alone. It’s very very short sighted not to let fellow riders know where they are , we want to use these lanes PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us know. Crazy how if you want a walk , or you want to ride a push bike you can find info on routes from anywhere , unbelievable amount of info out there for walkers but nothing for bikers ? And your moaning about loosing lanes to TROs ? If you don’t share info it won’t be long before THEY ARE ALL SHUT.

    Boyd is an absolute gent, we’ve been with OTT in the Peaks & it’s an amazing day I can’t recommend it highly enough. These guys are right we do spend when we gut up in the Peaks at the local Cafe’s probably up to £20 on food & drink per person & there’s usually 5 of us go out so £100 for a cage on a Saturday is well worth having, we usually stop at the Woodbine in Hope or the 5 Ways in Buxton also we top up with fuel when we are out. Compared to the walkers I’ve seen with their flask & sandwiches (nothing wrong with that) but it doesn’t exactly boost the local economy furthermore they bitch about pollution etc but when you see them parking for free on the roadside well they don’t exactly walk it to the Peaks themselves. Typical lefties these people are but hey ho live & le live I say.

Again, you mention 2nd hand gear, someone bought it new... My boots were more than £150... I'm not in the same league as Andrew, I ride a cheap little CRF250, and a DR350 (neither of which you'd get for £1500 btw..), and even I'm heading well up in the 4 figure range, so he's right what he's saying, the money required to do the hobby tends to keep younger people away, and those that ride illegally aren't affected by the TRO's etc

    I'm relatively new to trail riding and I'm really enjoying it as a good winter alternative to sports riding, especially since our summers are so brief! Every person i have encountered so far has been fine with it, whether they're on foot, dog walking or on horse back. Granted I don't ride trails that aren't legal for me to do so on and i always try to be conscious of other users and give right of way as you have to on a motor vehicle, but it just seems daft to me that so many great routes are restricted due to the actions of a small majority of people, who most likely will ignore the restrictions anyway.

    Totally agree with bikers using bridleways and other permitted paths and the idea of closing access to them because walkers complain is yet another example of ramblers moaning and getting what they want. They seem to love a good moan! I think repeatedly using the 'we spend loads here' arguement is a mistake though and needs a rethink. Your right to access shouldn't come with a price tag and what you spend on kit means nothing to non bikers. Walkers and cyclists will spend just as much in cafes and pubs so it just looks from the outside (I'm a cyclist, not a biker) like showing off. Also it's exactly the same argument drivers use when trying to justify their hatred towards and abuse of road cyclists even though we've been on the roads far longer, are risking more and are actually the reason many paved roads and suburbs exist! Two wheels down, keep on riding.

    Your taking rubbish about young riders. A there are plenty of people who can afford a brand new bike so how does that make any relevance and also they are plenty of young men and women who equally respect the trails. Also walkers and horses all make the same mess walking in the mud etc. It’s the selfish walkers who want all the roads to them selves. Forgetting that these byways where all horse and cart then motor vehicles ways of getting to a from places from many years ago. And are roads to which people with tax and insurance etc can ride illegally.

    @Galaxie Invader I am perfectly aware of the requirements to greenlane legally and that miserable busybodies get their kicks from reducing access to the sport. My point which you have overlooked is that you have no idea whether harley has met the requirements for greenlaning legally yet actively discouraged them and chastised them for doing so. The section about young riders in this video came accross very poorly and unfortunately so are some of the comments towards younger riders trying to defend their right to enjoy greenlaning. It’s very sad to see the potential future of trail riding and greenlaning being marginalised by other riders who feel that being older and having more expensive bikes and kit gives them greater entitlement.

  • @Rosewiled

    @Rosewiled

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Galaxie Invader Yes and I am aware that you can buy one that someone has previously road registered, you can register it yourself or you can get someone else to do it for you, either friends/family helping you out or a paid service and once done you can easily restrict it (assuming it wasn't restricted when you bought it) so you can ride it on a CBT. There is a 105 on ebay for sale right now that is road registered, I spoke to a KTM dealer today that has 65 on his forecourt that is road legal. I have seen 50cc pit bikes with plates on more than once. There are plenty about that are road registered already if you can't be bothered with the hassle of registering it yourself. Harley could well be 19 with a full bike license, Harley might be 25 for all we know, they simply referred to themselves as younger. Not sure what your point is. You are still young as a 19 year old adult.

  • @Rosewiled

    @Rosewiled

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Galaxie Invader I'm not interested in winning an argument, I am interested in highlighting to you that not all young riders do so illegally and not all riders causing trouble are young and to assume someone is riding illegally due to your own prejudice, telling them they shouldn't be riding and blaming them for lane closures simply because they are young is counterproductive. You know nothing about this persons riding qualifications or the legal status of their bike, they may be laning perfectly legally. Since you are still ranting about kids riding illegally it appears that is not something you wish to consider so I shan't waste my breath any further. I hope you can appreciate the irony of your complaint about being "tarred with the same brush". I don't have kids and I haven't once defended illegal activities. I am very curious however about your assertion that I am clueless and talking nonsense, what specific things have I said that are incorrect? Please enlighten me.

    you put your point across most eloquently,but the bottom line is you're damaging the bridle way's. Their is already irreversible damage caused by foot traffic alone, unfortunately motor cycle along with 4x4s are accelerating the process The peak Park planning board spends large amount of money repairing footpaths every year . They're also under extreme pressure by walkers to stop trail riding . They are trying to accommodate everyone, but are finding it impossible to convince the majority that use the Park the benefits of allowing what is a noisy environmentally unfriendly minority sport .

    Natural born driller We're not damaging the bridleways because we don't drive the bridleways. We drive on the byways or the unclassified roads, which are what they are because they have always been what they are. Thankfully, unlike the 'huge' pressure group you mention we are not narrow minded and bitter enough to want to ban or discriminate against anyone who doesnt do what we want. I walk, I cycle, I ride, I drive and there is plenty of room for everyone to do everything. Its only as such sites are becoming more popular that the selfish and greedy are screaming victim as they haven't got the final 2% of byways open exclusive to their use only. Despite the right to roam and the ever growing network of routes. But tell me, did you ever get to use your influence on the PDNP board of planning to close the final few byways, as you so keenly mentioned in another video? Or has the bitterness subsided for the meantime?

    You sound like Jehovah's witnesses! It doesn't really matter what the ages are of the people riding these scramblers, or how many pints they purchase in the village pub. They are completely outnumbered by the overwhelming majority of tourists and residents who have come to the peak district to enjoy nature in a safe & peaceful environment. They have specifically chosen this place to escape the noise, pollution and traffic of the cities. The business owners are fully aware of who their clientele are. I live in the National park, and meet tourists everyday, and 99% of them are on foot. If I was walking with my dog and young children along one of the narrow trails near my home, and 5 motorbikes came roaring towards us, do you think that I would be pleased to see them? Waving cheerily as my family cower in the ditch, choking on the fumes with their hands over their ears! There is no positive spin that you can put on this. National parks are sacred places and should be protected. Riverbeds and streams are teeming with wildlife. Should anybody have free reign to churn through them every weekend, for a bit of fun? As a hobby? This is not an ideological difference of opinion, it is common sense. You can take your bikes just about anywhere a motor vehicle is allowed to go, not to mention the official off-road trails which exist all over the country. Why insist in going to the only place where people and animals have sanctuary? You are in the wrong here and you know it.

    As a member of the bmc ( British mountaineering council) Lake District hotelier, mountain rescue volunteer and byway user I think there’s room for everyone. I can navigate every national park in the uk without a map after 40+ years in them. I love the Peak District and would suggest studying a os map and explain why you can’t avoid the byways if the motorised traffic annoys you?there are very few byways in any national park and are easily avoided . They are not after more access just keeping the ones that are there open. I fully support temporary closures when ground is susceptible to major damage and sometimes this is not done soon enough. I have worked on footpath repair in the Lake District for many years and a few byway Repairs and must say that amongst volunteers the lowest turnout seem to be from the ra ( ramblers association) .

    It's a bit rich to accuse people of sounding like 'Jehovahs witnesses' and then start waffling on about the national parks being 'sacred places'.....they aren't sacred, they are areas of countryside protected by the state for the enjoyment of the general public and protection of wildlife......you may view them as sacred if you wish but your views, no matter how strongly they are held, are not fact. If you want to argue against motorcycles in the parks use facts. Don't resort to sensationalist claims that these guys are churning up riverbeds that are teeming with life and preposterous rhetoric about families 'cowering in the ditch'. Firstly. Yes, business owners are fully aware of who their customers are. Which is why there are 50+ businesses signed up to the association. 50+ businesses that would probably disagree with your assertion that it doesn't matter how many pints they purchase in the village pub. And the fact that they are outnumbered by those choosing to experience the park on foot does not automatically put them in the wrong or lessen their right to be there. I grew up in the Lakes and the vast majority of tourists I saw were white......does that mean people of other ethnicity should be banned? (I can do preposterous rhetoric too!!) Secondly. If you want to ban them because they churn up riverbeds may I suggest you also call for a ban on horses and hikers walking in groups. Both of which would cause similar, if not greater, amounts of damage. You might also ask for all cattle to be removed from national parks.....god forbid, a hulking great cow could walk into a stream for a drink and do untold amounts of damage!! Finally. In answer to your last point can I add that walkers can take their walking boots and chunky socks to any one of the 140,000 miles worth of footpaths that criss cross the country. Not to mention the plethora of dedicated long distance walking trails......why insist on walking along the BYWAYS that are the only place members of the general public can go to enjoy their passtime legally? AND call for the removal of the riders right to do so? Anyone that behaves in such a way is in the wrong......and they know it!!
