The Truth about Tiffany Sterling Silver Jewlery

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've owned several items from Tiffany's and want to specifically talk about why I don't think Tiffany Sterling Silver Jewelry is worth the money (or sterling silver jewelry in general). From my experience, it's more worth it to invest in a couple pieces of fine jewelry at a slower pace, because good quality fine jewelry pieces hold up very well over time.

Darling, all silver no matter how high the percentage will tarnish in time. All brands will always recommend regularly using it or cleaning it. Never just store it in the cabinet. FACT.

@@ploooompkinWhat effort? It takes very little time to clean the jewelry. It doesn’t matter if it’s silver, 10k gold, 14k gold, or 18k, they will all tarnish if not ever cleaned. But the cleaning is easily done with a cloth or mild product. You can even bring it to the jeweler to clean.

@@ploooompkin Also, like the original comment says, if you wear it regularly this isn’t likely to be an issue. Not wearing it causes tarnishing just because these are all mixed with other metals (alloys) except 100% silver or 100% gold (24k, which is not wearable).

Hi there! Pure silver will not tarnish, however sterling silver will, especially if you store it improperly, it's just the basic property of the metal, because it still contains other metal types in the mix. You're right though, I've found that if you keep wearing it, you should experience less issues because you will address them right away. The tarnishing of my sterling silver started when I stored it for several months and stopped using it.

Girl, take baking soda in powder and rubber it on your pieces. And done. Will shine again. So simple. Fun fact: this was one of the last advice my mom gave me before she passed away 😢I know is sad but is true. I hope you love silver again 😊

Thanks love! I found that trick as well and did a video on that, but in that one I used aluminum foil. It worked really well. However, for me I prefer investing in jewlery that requires almost no maintenance and just keep wearing throughout my day, without worrying about contact with water, perfumes etc. So I prefer investing in 14k gold, also because it works better on my skintone. Thanks for sharing!

Sterling silver is okay but not for a Tiffany price (in my opinion). I have a lot of 925 that I bought in the $50-250 range (depending on size, stones, etc) and it is not a big deal to do a little polish here and there.

My Tiffany and co bracelet is sterling silver and does not tarnish if I wear it daily in any environment, wet or dry. But if I don’t wear it and leave it out to store, it tarnish to grey, black color. Then I cleaned it off with water and wore it 24/7 everywhere and it is shinning bright as brand new.

All precious metals tarnish except 24 k gold, which is 100% gold throughout. Unfortunately, no one makes 24k gold to wear because it’s way too soft. You have to clean the jewelry and it’ll be like new. Another tip: Precious metals should not be exposed to household cleaning agents or other industrial products because it will ruin the metal.

  • @Tootnscoot

24k is definitely not too soft. I can easily prove this. My wedding band is a 6mm wide hand hammered about 1.5mm thick 24k gold band. I wear it everywhere, everyday. 24/7 since I put it on with exception of the shower sometimes. My ring is fine. It does warp ( it's thinner) which is more comfortable because it takes the shape of your finger. I by profession am an industrial mechanic. I work in an automotive stamping factory and prior to that a porcelain tile factory. Highly abrasive environments, very intensive hands on job, against very hard materials. It goes through hell and there's nothing wrong with it at all to this day. If a small, thin piece of 24k can handle that a bracelet won't have any issues. 24k wearers swear by it and jewelers hate it. Ask why, maybe because nobody is gonna buy 24k gold for double its price. They can cut it to 14k and charge the same price. They don't care how long it last really, if it breaks you buy a new one or they charge to repair it. The 24k thing being bad for jewelry is just false it's not much softer than aluminum and look at everything aluminum is used in

You're absolutely right, stainless steel is definitely more durable. The only downside is that it is not as malleable as sterling silver, so it can't be easily shaped in as delicate and intricate designs.

  • @StylemeWorthit

While I wouldn't say it costs a lot to maintain, I think it can definitely be quite time consuming, and I would much rather spend more on a piece of jewelry that I can wear everyday and not have to worry about creams, lotions and water. I agree though, I find I rarely wear silver-toned items (with the exception of my platinum engagement ring which is extremely durable), and I much prefer gold toned jewelry, it fits my golden skin tone better.

Tiffany & Co. Sterling silver pieces are amazing, and I’m not just saying this because I worked there for seven years! It’s heavier than any other silver jewelry I’ve run across. And, if you follow simple guidelines, it won’t tarnish at all. Sterling tarnishes when it’s exposed to air…if you store your pieces in ziplock bags, no air gets in, and therefore no tarnish exists. Someone said it doesn’t tarnish if you wear it all the time - this is true too! Regarding the high prices, you are paying for the brand, but have you examined the quality of Louis Vuitton bags? They’re no where worth $2k (at minimum), but people still buy for the logo.

Essentially what you’re saying is don’t be expecting Van Cleef & Arpels or even “Tiffany” quality when the products are really no different in performance than something you could get at the department store or Pandora.
