    A friend of mine in the 1970s was an alcoholic living on the streets. They gave out tea and buns to these unfortunate men. But first, they would have to sing and pray before they got the food.

    Can I just point out their homeless shelters that make thousands of dollars per person in the shelter, never buy food only get donated food, get thousands of dollars donated per day during winter months, yet they provide only 3 free days in which you sleep on a 1 inch thick Matt on the floor with only a sheet, and after that the formally named homeless people pay 12$ a night to sleep in a cold hallway with all the lights still on ,still on the green 1 inch Matt's on the floor with a sheet ... Not to mention they threaten to ban you if you tell the police about how you were attacked sexually or physically on their property, yet if someone is caught on multiple occasions flashing his genitals to elderly homeless women still stays there night after night

    Trust me there shelters suck. I'v been there 2 times in my life and it was hell. The first time I was 2 when I went there . I would be sleeping and there would be bedbugs crawling on me . The second time I was 8 and I got sick bad. I had severe diarrhea and my mom asked if we get an ambulance and the administrator said it's only for real emergencies and I had to walk to my grandma's house. While my underwear was soaked.

    My father, a devout Evangelical dude, managed a Salvation Army Thrift Store for a short time in the 1970s. I remember him complaining about the guy (Capitan, or Major or some weird raked dude), who ran the district area Salvation Thrift Stores. According to my father, he was upset that the ranked officer was taking all the "good" donations for himself. It seemed unfair somehow to my devout Christian father. We did however during this period, end up with an abundance of rather interesting items in our own home. Like colour console televisions, rather nice cookware, some Civil War memorabilia, just to mention a few odd, used, but seemingly nice items. I guess we didn't get the good stuff.

    I used to be a Salvationist myself, but when "The Salvation Army" Canada and Bermuda Territorial Headquarters brought back two Corps Officers, Majors Bertha and Wilbert Abbott, back to my corps, Corner Brook Citadel, we made a difficult decision to leave that church food good. When the Abbott's were Corps Officers at Corner Brook Citadel in 2022 and 2023, they did a lot of damage to that church, including cutting important programs, getting rid of its marketing tools like its Facebook page and websites, and disconnecting itself with the community. The Abbott's were also known for using brainwashing tactics in getting people to sing a certain chorus as many as ten times, well above the norm of three times. "The Salvation Army" is suppose to be church, not a cult. When Captain Kim Chan was moved from Corner Brook Citadel to Vancouver recently, the Canada/Bermuda THQ brought the Abbott's back to Corner Brook Citadel, my Common Law Spouse and I made a difficult decision to leave "The Salvation Army" and join a church that does a lot for their community like Sonrise Ministries who are under the leadership of Jon and Angie Rogers. Unfortunately, "The Salvation Army" are losing congregation members, even in stronghold regions like Newfoundland and Labrador, forcing their DHQs to close or even merge churches.

    A guy who I've been friends with for 10 years decided that we could no longer be friends because his Salvation Army wife decided he couldn't have friends that were girls and didn't go to their church. It's basically a cult. I played in a brass band that was affiliated with a Salvation Army church (I never joined the church, I'm an atheist who was raised Methodist) for a while and I could never understand why you'd want to be in a church that's so controlling and you have to wear strange uniforms. They pretend to help people in poorer neighborhoods but they don't actually understand anything about what it means to be poor or the culture of the neighborhoods they "serve". They look down on anyone who does drugs. They don't let their kids go to college except for the pre-approved "Christian" colleges, and they can only study things that serve the church like music education or ministry. I have a lot of issues with the Salvation Army and how they act like they're better than everyone else but in reality they're just a bunch of bigots.

    What a load of nonsense. As a member of the salvation army I study American studies, two of my friends study chemistry, one friend studies biology, my girlfriend studied classics and archaeology. We can study at whatever university we like, I don't know where you've got that load of rubbish from. Of course there are things about our church that need to change, but we all give our time for free (as well as all having unrelated day jobs) to help the poor in society and those desperately in need, no matter how much abuse we receive on a day to day basis. Feel free to criticise, but don't just make things up! We are openly a church and we help everyone, no exceptions. Do not let an isolated experience colour your view of a worldwide organisation that has helped millions of people.

    @Wise Acres there is no obligation to help, we do it because we hope to make peoples situations a little bit easier. There's no caviat attached. We are told our religion is toxic but I find your unpleasant and unnecessarily nasty posts towards me to be highly confrontational. We are all in our own way trying to make peoples lives a little bit better and I would encourage you to research, through non biased channels, the actual views of the salvation army. I do not feel the need to lambast non Christian groups, and actively support a number of them. At my local SA we have help hundreds of people get through this difficult time with the pandemic, I have personally given up huge amounts of time, and I don't do it out of obligation, or because I feel I have to, I do it because I want to help people who are less fortunate and because I am lucky enough tk have the time to give. Please do not tell me what my reasons must be for volunteering, like you've ever spoken to me. Religion is not a virus, misinterpretation of religion is a virus, and that is a very clear distinction that needs to be made. I am happy to have a thought through, intelligent conversation with you if you'd like to discuss it further, but I will not respond to unnecessary rudeness and insults. I'm not brainwashed and I don't do anything out of obligation, I have made a clear choice to help people and that cannot be a bad thing, whatever my faith. I understand the salvation army is not perfect but I was not willing to sit by and let us be criticised for issues that are simply not true. I am not here to evangelise, just to point out lies about an organisation I am a part of. Please only respond to me if you can be civil and not call me a goon or virus, thank you

    @en6918

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@bunnybismuth I was merely pointing out, in my first response, that the details regarding issues such as needing to go to pre approved colleges etc. are not true. We don't have to go to select colleges and we don't have to study select subjects, if so then how am I studying US studies at a secular university? My second post was in response to as very specific response aimed at me personally which has since been taken down, and without the context of the original message I was tagged in is largely irrelevant to the discussion at hand as it was a defence to a very nasty and offensive post aimed at me personally. My only intention to posting was to ensure that fake news was corrected, as there are many legitimate issues within the salvation army that we are wrestling with on a daily basis. But in terms of aid we do truthfully help all, and it upsets me so much that people feel this isn't the case, because all the volunteers want to do is help people, there's no motive, there's no secret agenda, all us volunteers simply enjoy helping others, as any volunteer with any organisation. I want to make very clear to you that we do have many problems. Members of the LGBTQ+ community can not be full members, and cannot serve in church leadership positions without celibacy, we also have lobbied and backed many bills and government decisions that discriminate against LGTBQ+ and for that I have no answer except to say that there are major internal disagreements over this and more and more there is hope within our organisation that all restrictions towards those who identify as LGBTQ+ will soon be removed. But all this only affects the church side of things and has no bearing on the charity side whether that be who we help or who we employ. It's necessary to view this in balance though. The salvation army has ALWAYS allowed women to preach and viewed them as equal in the church hierarchy, a view not shared by the Catholic church or tradioital protestant denominations. Out members really will help all without discrimination should people turn up at one of our shelters or church buildings and our volunteers really do give up their time for free purely to help others often in dangerous situations, for example running safehouses for victims of modern slavery or serving our emergency services in disaster zones or the military in bases all over the world. Please can we attempt to move on from stories in the 20th C when the salvation army was admittedly a very different organisation. All of this is largely uneccesary though when all I was doing was replying to the original comment to tell him that we don't have to study certain things at certain schools,which is all I was saying. If people are going to call me a bigot for daring to try and help others then I am going to speak up,and I don't have to be silenced or told to shut up because I was insulted and attacked all for daring to do my bit to help others out.

    I'm a Salvationist from India Eastern Territory. I don't know what's going on in other territories but here we are still very much faithful to our mission statement. All donations reach the right people. We may have a few loopholes. But not all are bad and shouldn't be judged as a whole. Human beings are imperfect. Look at the decline of moral values around the world and the rise of Islam in European countries which were once devout Christians. As Christians, we are to stand united. Let's look at God rather than human beings. Let's pray for our fellow human beings and preach the true Gospel of Christ instead of criticizing each other🙏

    From an Atheistic perspective it might seem annoying to see people preaching on the street but from a Christian perspective they're trying to save you from eternal damnation. Spreading Christianity is their main goal because Christians believe that that is the best way to help the world. Worldly matters do not matter in Heaven, and being rich or poor does not matter either. The time spent on Earth is nothing but a blip before your time in Heaven, which is eternal. I'm not gonna go out of my way to defend the Salvation Army (historically also called the Starvation Army for reasons I'm not aware) but it seems like many of your problems against them are just problems with Christianity in general.

    Both my parents worked at the salvation army for a number of years. Mostly around their youth programs and janitorial duties. They both have become more of the liberal, loving everyone type Christians and thus just wanted to help people regardless of whatever they believed or who they slept with. Which is I think a reason why they started butting head with the higher ups outside of the place they worked at. Eventually they got let go and It's still something that annoys me since all they really wanted to do was help. And I'd much rather give my old clothes and stuff to a place like salvation army that does do a lot of charitable work, than a place like goodwill which is driven solely by profit. But when you dig into the system working under the salvation army, you do come away feeling alittle gross.

    I was a member for most of my life... in full uniform once I became an adult. Only ever as a soldier (volunteer member) but never employed. This video is not without its humour. But it’s not a fair portrayal. Here are some thoughts why: Equating the mission statement with the doctrines is a bit muddled; they’re two entirely different sets of propositions with different purposes. One is a formal set of beliefs, the other is a 1990s affectation that tries to condense the complexities of a 150 year old organisation into a handful of paragraphs. But your broader point is I think well-made: the church side of the Salvation Army does not always sit comfortably with its social work aspect. The “Repent Sinners” sign is an inaccurate rendition, and I’m merely pointing out fact here, I’m not being defensive. It’s more that: apart from perhaps corps (churches) in some parts of the US, the level of fire and brimstone tubthumping depicted is not a prominent feature of Salvation Army theology. They’re mainline evangelicals doctrinally, and arguably a little softer than a strict reading of the doctrines and and of their relative position on the doctrine/practise matrix, might imply. Maybe the exposure of salvationists to the social work component of the organisation’s work, has broadened attitudes on certain issues. On LGBT issues, all I would say is: wide variation exists among and between members and congregations. Quick judgements about the organisation as a whole don’t make much sense in this context. On Aussie Salvos raping kids in the 20th century: it’s all too horribly true. My friends who are still Army tell me it’s hurt people inside the organisation massively. More to say but that will have to do. God bless everyone who reads these words.

    Misrepresented... 11 doctrines are certainly plain to see, but you’ve also got the other half of the covenant which expresses lifestyle choices which would be more in keeping in your so termed ‘charity shit’. The Skeleton Army, yes interesting, you failed to mention the bottles being smashed over salvationist’s heads or the fact they killed someone in Worthing, the rats are a new one for me... I’ve read fairly extensively on the Skeleton Army in the UK (the only place where they operated under that title) and have found no record of rats- perhaps you are confusing it with the Wagon disruption in the US where rats would be thrown on to shame those who were escaping alcoholism (hence the phrase on the wagon). Being celibate and homosexual, yes this one usually comes up... if you are genuinely interested all Salvationists should be celibate until they marry, that it in the soldier’s covenant, and I have to adhere to this as a straight female in the same way. Collecting under false pretences... honey in the UK we do Christmas collecting by playing Christmas carols, the songs provide the message, and 85% going to charity well look at OXFAM or Water Aid for example. TSA salaries are all published and accessible in the uk... finally imagine you are working for an organisation where your company worked in nations like Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, where it is illegal to be homosexual, you would be putting 100s of lives at risk because all Salvationists conform to the same covenant.

    @@LadyZeldaia No, it is a Christian Church with an amazing outreach program, hence the hate they receive from the world. I've seen firsthand how the Salvation Army operates in my community over the past 5yrs and I can honestly say that I've never seen them cause any harm to an individual, as an organization, but of coarse that isn't to say individuals within the organization haven't caused harm... After all, we live in a corrupt world and anything humans are involved with has the potential to go sideways in an unknowable number of ways, so the best advice anyone can give another, regarding absolutely anything, is this, "put your faith in God, not men", it is the very first thing I learned from the Lord, I believe it is critical to keep that in mind if you want to find the truth about absolutely anything in this world. Take the bible for instance, it can give a person anything their seeking, for the atheist it gives them a perception of evidence against the existence of a creator, where as, the greedy televangelist finds the tools to fleece the fools... It is a spiritual book, filled with spiritual things and can be anything the reader wants it to be... However, the Holy Bible's true purpose as revealed in scripture is the unadulterated truth behind human existence, which is precisely what God's children use it for, we seek but one thing within its hallowed covers, a greater understanding of YAHWEH, the one true God and creator of all things, who is the eternal embodiment of justice and righteousness, the one we have all sinned against, who we will inevitably stand before and who we are incapable of reconciliation with, on our own... If you've read this far then do yourself a favor, seek the legal implications of a savior and how the true "Jesus of Nazareth", the only begotten son, the truth, the way, and the light, is the only method of fulfillment for God's covenant with mankind... For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord(Romans 6:23). and have no doubt friend, we have all earned our wages...

    Fetuses are not children. That's not how abortion works. There are thousands of kids in orphanges and the foster system which is rife with abuse and problems. STFU and stop treating women/AFAB people like chattel.
