The TRUTH About the Hobie Outback - Long Term Review

Спорт

Hey there, fellow anglers! If you're on the hunt for the ultimate fishing kayak, you've landed in the right spot. In today's video, I'm diving deep into the Hobie Outback, the kayak that's been a game-changer for my fishing adventures. We'll cover all the nitty-gritty details and give you the honest scoop on whether this kayak deserves its spot as a top contender in the fishing world.
Now, let's talk about what sets the Hobie Outback apart from the rest. The real star of the show is the Mirage Drive with those ingenious kick-up fins. You heard me right - forward, reverse, and obstacle evasion all in one neat package. And those moments when you accidentally hit something? No worries - those fins are designed to give way. That's a game-changer in tight spots and around structure.
It's unlike anything else out there, and it's the secret behind the kayak's maneuverability. Trust me, those three points of difference - the unique propulsion system, the reverse action, and those kick-up fins - they're all working together to give you a fishing experience like no other.
Speaking of experience, let's talk comfort. The seat on this thing - pure bliss. Hours on the water? No problem. The adjustable lumbar support has my back, literally. And the rudder controls? Thought they'd be awkward, but surprise surprise - they're a breeze to use and perfectly placed.
Now, storage - a fisherman's must-have. The Tackle Box Wells are like little treasure troves, holding all my gear securely. And that floor well? Soft plastics, terminal tackle - it's all right at my fingertips. And don't even get me started on the tank well at the back - it's a champ at carrying all my fishing essentials.
But let's not forget about the pedal drive. That hands-free fishing dream? It's real. And the retractable rudder? Keeps you gliding smoothly through shallow waters without a hitch.
Now, let's talk drawbacks - because we keep it real here. Price tag? Yep, it's up there. But hey, quality comes at a cost. And the weight? It's a bit hefty, but the benefits far outweigh the hassle, trust me.
So, if you're all about shallow water fishing, crave hands-free operation, and are ready to invest in a top-notch kayak, the Hobie Outback might just be your perfect match. I've been using it for six months now, and it's opened up new waters and fishing possibilities I never imagined.
Don't forget to hit that subscribe button because in my next kayak video, I'm spilling the beans on the accessories I'm adding to take my Hobie Outback to the next level. Thanks for tuning in, and until next time, tight lines!

What he says is right on. My wife and I (in our mid 70's) each have an Outback and just love them. Very stable, easy to pedal and manuever. So adaptive to whatever activity we can dream up. The drive system is so much easier than a paddle. Seat is great. The SUV of kayaks. Good review!

What a wonderful thorough overview! Hard to beat that hobie seat for sure. Feature-packed yak that doesn’t need much. I appreciate you fishing it as is for a period before going crazy with the accessories. Looking forward to what sort of jewelry you outfit her with. Keep it up. -Marc

Thanks Marc. Like all my reviews, I wanted to test it out as is for a while before making a decision. :)

Great overview of the Hobie outback. I have one that I mostly use for Ocean Fishing, and I can say that it is also great for inshore ocean fishing and crabbing.

Thanks - maybe one day I'll do some saltwater angling in it! But it's been great for my rivers and lakes too.

It's a nice between kayak for those that don't need the size and weight of the PA but want more capability than the Revolution or Lynx. I don't need that much capability so I recently picked up the easy to carry, or maneuver, Lynx.

Thank you for another very informative video. Job well done! I too have the Wilderness cart that works very well with my Unlimited. Like your Hobie, it to is a heavy boat. I also purchased a Dynamic Dolly cart (somewhat salty$$) that can be launched with the adapter as if it is a tow behind trailer. Some of these yaks today start out heavy and get heavier after they are rigged and loaded. I believe my next kayak might be a Hobie Lynx (in a few years). It's half the weight of what we have now and I'm not getting any younger,

Yep - I'm seriously considering adding an inflatable SUP to use in really skinny water and tough access points. I enjoy the Outback, but sometimes it's just a bit too much.

My hull cracked, and I’d still buy a Hobie Outback. It’s perfect for my style of bass fishing.

Glad that boat is working out for you. Looking forward to your review of the new fishband reel. I am also considering buying the insta360 and was curious what you thought of it so far.

It's been awesome on the lakes, and I know a lot of guys use it in the coastal areas too. I've been very happy with it overall.

Hobie's splash sale is going on to the end of Sept. I bought my Lynx during the sale. Surely, Hobie will go up $300 or more for 2024 models.

Best all around lake kayak for sure. Rivers, no. No pedal drive kayak is going to be great on rivers. I've never used the reverse feature on any of my Hobie kayaks.

Might depend on your definition of rivers - I have a lot of wide, slow rivers. But overall I've been happy.

Agreed the biggest drawback is the non instant reverse. Other than that it’s a 5 star kayak and it’s really fast
