Great video for those interested. I've had mine for a year now and love it but I would add the following: (1) I have a 6 hp motor and its plenty and weighs only 50 lbs. Really depends how fast you want to get places. (2) Unloading is easy but loading after a trip can be easy too if you do the following: (a) Take the motor off, if you have 6 hp (lighter) you turn two screws and its off (you're going to flush it anyway when you get home so take it off now) (b) with a foam pad or big beach towel place it under the Rover and tip it on its side to mount the wheels--super easy! (c) load the Rover into your truck nose first--this allows you to take the wheels off after its in your truck with ease. The only other advice I would add is you'll need a cooler or something to sit on (I bought the 5 gal Kula and love it) or you'll need an extender handle for your motor to operate the throttle while you stand (if you prefer standing). Also, skip the power poll but get the sand spike and tie a rope to it (with stryo buoy)--this way you can control whether you want to fish with your face into the wind (tie rope to front of rover) or back to the wind (tie rope to back of Rover) and if you land a monster you can remove the rope because your going to get towed and don't have to worry about a big pole sticking up when your battling the fish. Finally, most dealers will give you a cash discount on the Rover and I found a lightly used Craigslist 6 hp Tohatsu motor. If your worrying about Tohatsu, don't, if you buy a Mercury 6 hp at Bass Pro or West Marine its actually a Tohatsu (with a $600 Mercury sticker on it)--no kidding. All in all, I got my Rover, motor, wheels, grab rack, sand spear spare gas tank/mount and kula for under $5k and that's only a couple hundred more that a fully rigged Pro Angler. I love it and when my son goes with me I can tow his kayak behind the Rover and go farther and faster than anyone in a Kayak. Note to Kayak purists--I still love my Kayak but when I want to go further and faster you can't beat a Rover. RX, thanks for the great video but buyers should consider these alt observations. Oh, you forgot to add that if your putting it in your truck you absolutely need the bed extender and they can be pricy but there are lots of options ($100-$400 range).

Man what a great overview of this. SOO many channels claim to have a "complete review" of a product and never mention the price at all. For most of us that is the number one factor on what we even start to look at. For that kind of money something like this would never work for me. I think I could get a brand new 14 foot jon boat for a fraction of that price and do 90% of what the Bote could do but I do see some of the appeal.

One of the most honest and objective reviews out there. I really appreciate that. I'm still not turned off of the micro skiff idea. At first, I thought there's no way I'd pay that much money for something that small sts, but when you factor in the convenience of not having to own, store, and maintain an entire boat coupled with the impressive customization advances in micro skiffs (not to mention their ability to navigate waterways that boats could never get to) then the price starts to become less of a factor.

Holy f that’s a fortune. You’ve got almost eight grand in that thing. 😱. It’s cool looking, but honestly I’d much rather buy two Hobie Outbacks and a trailer for that money. Better access to the water I want to get to, MUCH easier loading and unloading, less mechanics/maintenance to worry about, no gasoline or oil...and the comfort factor. I don’t like the fact that your only option is sitting on a cooler all day. It’s awesome that you and others love them but the Rover is absolutely not for me. Thank you for your video because it absolutely solidified that fact in my mind!

Great video, definitely needed for the Rover since there is so little info on it. In my experience (i have the 6hp Mercury) the Wheel Rac is useless too. The Bote performs as expected but it is much harder to handle than i originally anticipated. The worst things I have experienced with the Rover have been with the actual Comapny, Bote has been an absolute nightmare to deal with so far. The issues I have had with the Rover have been amplified when trying to get them solved with the company. Once again, great video i'm glad someone ended up making it. Keep the content coming!

Thanks for the honest review. Florida's coastal fishing varies greatly depending on where you are. There may be a few areas where you can buzz around on plane without worries, but there are many places, especially on the Gulf coast that require local knowledge and a lot of practice to navigate. 10k islands for example, is a maze of wicked nasty oyster bars that are completely hidden under a couple inches of stained water at high tide, but will be protruding a couple feet out of the water a couple hours later on low tide. There are plenty of areas completely inaccessible to anything but paddle power or push pole.

I have an ATAK 140 and while it isn't as heavy I have found the easiest way to load and unload at boat ramps is to just back my truck down the ramp to where tires are in the water and bed extender is only like 3-6 in out of water, grab my long rope and just push it off the back and pull it back in secure it and park my truck. For loading just vice versa back down and into the water, grab your rope and push it out, then climb up in the truck bed and pull it up onto the extender and bed. Just found your channel and loving the reviews.

If you use a boat launch you might back your truck as far as you can into the water until your board will float and skip the wheels attachment. if you don't mind a getting little wet. Try this only on a cement ramp! I have a friend who dose this and it works great. when your board in the water at a safe depth gently lower it into the water then just tie it up and park you truck. But do a dry run first make sure your deep enough in the water will not hit bottom. Watching your unloading video looked just like he does it, except he had backed into the water that his wheels were a little 3/4 under water on a (cement ramp only). Awesome video good fishing

The weak link is the wheel rac. I got mine in August (already inflated) and it sat in my hot van and blistered out on one wheel. I returned it the next day. Under-inflate in hot weather. I tried to use without a trailer, but it's pretty hard to get it up on my ladder rack. I work out of a Ford van and thought I could do it. It takes me 30 minutes to unload from the roof, then load the motor and all the gear and gas tanks. I now pull a trailer - much quicker and easier. Enjoying the videos. Bring it to Destin....we'll cruise Crab Island.

I'm 73 and I'm running into the same exact loading issue with my 120 AutoPilot. It's all easy until it comes to getting the 120 onto the Malone cart coming out of the water. I've cut 3" off of the Malone tracks so they don't stick up so high when loading... That made it a buch easier but I still have to pull the heavy kayak completely out of the water and pick up the 120 from the REAR only to set it on the Rack. Coming from the front is way too heavy even with the Minn Kota Removed. One cool thing is I removed the front passange seat and stowed the middle and back. I can then shove the Yak and the Malone attached into my Caravan .. Leave the back hatch open. It's an easy unload at the House when I get home. Roll it right on into the Garage "Man Cave".

Nice video. We have a Bote Rover too. But we also built a microskiff canoe. TBH, the 15' Pelican canoe with a 6 hp, grab rack, beats the rover hands down EVERY in EVERY category. The only benefit I can think of where the Rover wins is the self bailing hull. But the canoe can be filled with water and still float

I can see that this boat will be great in skinny shallow calm water. if you know you will be in an environment where there will be big boats around then forget about using this. Unless you lile to challenge yourself and the boat. There's no one boat that can do everything. That's why i have two boats in my garage and thinking of getting this Bote Rover specifically for my key west yearly vacation.

That's a lot of overhang off your truck bed! I'd be nervous as hell hauling that thing around town! And then loading and offloading it ..wow looks very cumbersome. Enjoy your hobby man thanks for the video!

My Perfect watercraft is an OldTown 106 with Spot Lock. That would be a little lighter, and would fit in my van with the back hatched closed.... That would be perfection. Hope Old Town is listening.

I think this thing is pretty damn cool. If you’re looking to find something motorized to fish, this thing is a beast. My dad was looking for something to take a couple people out to the sand bar so he picked up a 16ft Saturn inflatable with a 20 hp Mercury and he paid about the same thing. Obviously it’s not ideal for fishing, but it’s definitely a fun little Sunday sand bar machine.

Man when I first saw this video, before I opened it I was saying to myself... It's For Sale. Glad I was WRONG. Great video for those that don't know. I'm sure your time will benefit some potential BOTE owner. Also glad to see your keeping the 9.9 Suzuki too. It won't be long before your ripping across the water in search of new skinny waters. Nick if you don't mind, what's the percentage of fish you catch in 12" or LESS of water? Thumbs up on the video. 👍 Tight Lines and Full Limits to Ya.!

Damn I never imagined it was that expensive. Last year I purchased a 19ft with a 200hp Yamaha for $7000. After seeing this I feel like I got a heck of a great deal.

Soloskiff = $1850 Brand new Tohatsu 6hp = $1400 New Galvanized trailer = $500 Seat = $40 Total = $3800 Nick I avoided getting a trailer for the same reasons you are, until I smashed my fingers and pulled a muscle in my back. After I started using the trailer I realized that was the best way to go & only regret not doing it sooner

Check out wilderness systems heavy duty kayak cart and go with the hard plastic wheels. The design of Botes cart will eventually crack the bottom of the bote board like it did to mine. I’m having to flex seal the holes and hoping it won’t take on anymore water

Thanks for making this. A lot of thing I kinda thought about the rover were true. Something else I wish you could touch on is the plaining. Seems like ever video and photo of the rover, the bow is super high and it never plains out. Just a really inefficient design it seems for the money..... I got a Gheenoe for about what you paid for just the Rover hull and it came with a 25hp lol
