Well the ethereal plane has to be infinite as well otherwise the endless staircase wouldn’t be able to exist in a Demi plane, so then how do you get from the side of it where the material plane is to the side where the inner planes are? Is it only infinite in two directions or something?

So a campaign I've been thinking about making is one where the planes are being thrown out of balance, and the party is sent by AO to help get the planes back in balance and find out who's causing the inbalance. To help with the plane travel, I'm going to give them a modified dimension cube.

Pretty much our current setting in a game we've been running on and off for the past 14 years or so, save for AO. We actually started as our own selves in our current material plane when the Negative Energy Plane bled into ours and zombies and other abominations happened. After narrowly escaping with our lives, we ended up finding a planar gate to another human-settled and soon-to-be-fused material plane - where we learned the teleportation ritual from a soon-to-be-traitor necromancer (who later returned as a lich) - in some weird underground somewhat interplanar dungeon-like complexes to escape and have been trying to save the other material planes (crystal spheres, if we're to use the correct terminology) ever since. We have even created demiplanes for thousands of planar refugees. We have been investigating the phenomenon since then to figure out what causes the planar fusions but we're usually in a climate change type of situation where it's mostly only the affected planes that seem to care thus far, plus a plane of studious wizard researchers (aka scientists) who has a few experts on the case, among other fields of study... Other people always seem to have more immediate things to take care of and ignore the situation of the other planes as well as the existential threat of this imminent crisis, haha.

I absolutely love the concept of endless elemental planes that also are in contact with eachother. To me that sounds like they are indeed infinite in some way, but only if you don't know the way. A journey without knowing the way (including the way being just a straight line) could take centuries before reaching the target, while someone who knows the way could reach it in mere days, depending on difficulty of terrain. That would make being randomly dumped on any plane a death sentence in most cases, tho.

Amazing! I've always wanted to play a planeswalker in D&D, and now I have a better idea of how to go about it. I really appreciate the references as well. Thanks!

This looks like a very interesting series. I might aim to try to make a plane-jumping game for my next campaign based on these videos. Thanks for gathering the lore and the clear and concise way you explain it... It helps simplify things a bit and makes them a little more manageable.

I've always been fascinated with the multiple planes and places in the d&d multiverse, but as you said, it's hard to get a good overview. Harder still is contradictory information and stories and hearsay however, you did a great job with this video and I'm looking forward to the whole series.

Damn, monks seem kinda op in air and earth land. In air plane, they can literally be Zaheer and just float around. In the earth plane, they have the best chance of defining gravity

Ah yes, the plane of air. I like a good ol quote from hitch hikers guide to the galaxy for the concept of movement here "There is an art, or rather knack to flying. The knack lies in learning to throw yourself at the ground and miss" ~~ Arthur Dent

I'm looking forward to hear about your research on the circulation of souls in 5th edition (I'm not quite sure if anything changed in a major way since 3.5e). Also, I absolutely love that you're delving into the planes. The Manual of the Planes for AD&D is still one of my absolute favorite D&D books. I hope your videos allow others to discover the wonders of what essentially comes down to Planescape.

This is a perfect video series for my current campaigns actually! Both of them will involve planar travel, and it's been difficult finding all the info on all the realms. (I'm also planning on creating a homebrew race connected with every plane, so it'll definitely help to watch these videos)

Super excited for this series, and as much as I enjoyed this one hearing another person mispronouncing Sigil's name makes my soul cry. For reference in D&D the city of Sigil is pronounced as Sig-ill or Siggle not Si-jill like the standard pronunciation of the symbol. The small lore there is on this difference of name is pretty interesting, and it's all based on an in-joke between the original writers.
