Yes, I know many Narcissists. I was shy growing up so listened. When got older and after husband died. I was able to make friends but those are Narcissists I was talking about. My sister I realized was one and turned most in friends against me. She is wealthier, straight A and greedy. It took all these years to know when I seen a report on Narcissist but no one believes me. She has made them first that I was no good, then Autistic and lastly a conspiratist. All untrue. I am not tough enough and has always been a caring and forgiving person. I stay away from her mostly except maybe a holiday. My own 2 son's have turned against me. She goes behind my back you see. Beware of not just strangers bearing gifts behind your back bribing believability. 🙁

A narcissist is the most convincing liar because he believes the lie himself. A Machiavellian liar is lying for a purpose, and he'll quit while he's ahead. He prepares the lie carefully and prays that he won't be found out.

OMG so true! When my narc husband lies ( which is every 15 minutes, literally) I know I'll I have to do is wait. Casually, a few days later, I'll bring up the same topic. The story will change ever so slightly. I used to think he was slow-to-learn with a severe memory problem--he even dupped our first marriage therapist. She Dx'd him with A.D.D. Then he'd bitch & moan when I treated him like he was slow-to-learn! Ugh! Finally, I asked my bro-in-law who's an FBI senior supervising agent. I provided a current example. Mr. FBI said, "He knows. He understands it's that He doesn't want to do what you're asking." It's like, really? I wonder when hi stop holding my husband on the same countability level as my kids who are 6 and 8 and one has a mild cognitive delay? Relationship with a narcissist is like being on a very mild dose of psychedelics such as mushrooms or LSD every day. My husband lies so much that he would need about three secretaries to maintain all of his alternative facts. Good liars don't lie so often to where they can't remember their shit. These dudes are good liars physically--none of thus face touching crap that ppl with a decent values exhibit. BUT, no one can maintain that much false details especially against a person with the stamina of a long distance runner (college--all college--now, I only run and lock myself in the bathroom to get my alone time 😂).

That's why it is a Narcissistic Personality Disorder! A lie (Wikipedia) is a deliberate untruth. NPD is a defense mechanism, the disorder works 'automatically', not deliberate. We know they are lying but to narcissists it's reallity. That's why they seem professional liars to us, don't remember a lie, never will admit lying and keep on trying to change the story or blame you.

Anyone who knows you well enough to matter, should recognize the difference between what you do and lying. They should be able to figure out that if that is how you act when they know you are telling the truth, then you aren't lying if you act that way when they don't know the truth. In other words, you father has surely seen you tell the truth--and known it was the truth--hundreds of times. (He has a baseline-like when they do a lie detector test, they always ask some questions they know are true like your name where you are etc, so they can compare your heartrate etc when you are not lying to what changes if you do lie.) If your father has seen how you act hundreds of times when you are saying something he already knows is true but he still thinks you are lying when you act that way, he must be really, really stupid--at least emotionally stupid or stupid about people. If he isn't really stupid, then he's an ass who has his own reasons for wanting you to feel judged or in trouble or bad about yourself. Forget about his opinion. Either way (either he is stupid OR he wants you to feel bad) his opinion of you is worthless. Don't ever let it affect your opinion of you.

This is how to catch a liar who possesses empathy and remorse. Someone who may feel guilty about some act they may have committed. A true lair can fake reality. They do not think or feel anything when lying because they are able to live a lie in the moment of telling it. Most likely you'll never spot a true sociopathic liar unless you have facts about the situation. These people are so convincing you'll repeat their lie further making the tall tail into a reality for the liar.

The best liar is one who actually believes what they are saying is true, but that enters into a whole other realm of self denial, almost psychosis. A good liar also sticks to the same story, tells the same lie again and again, changing the story only opens you up to be discredited. A good liar also makes sure there's no way of disproving his lie. Shit, I sound like a psychopath.

I'm laughing at this because my mother used to tell me that I'd go around the block to cross the street. I unnecessarily complicate every conversation I'm in. TMI, TMI. And I almost always provide too much detail. (I deleted an entire paragraph of detail in my response to you.) The biggest thing is whether complicating matters is unusual for someone or if providing a lot of detail is unusual. Unless of course, the person is lying all the time. People like that do exist. I don't think, however, most people are engaging in consequential lies on a regular basis.

I'm pretty shy, and therefore, not the best conversationalist, but, I notice that when I'm talking to people, I'm always looking down, or all around the room or if we are outside, looking at the trees or whatever our surroundings are, and I'm not lying, its just that I'm shy, know I'm a horrible conversationalist and embarrassed by it. The only time I look at someone straight in the eye is when THEY are talking to me, and when I comment back, I'm looking down or all around. I'm pretty sure, people would think I'm a big liar, too, but, I'm not. The only lies I tell people are because I don't want to hurt their feelings and tell them I like their haircut or the outfit they are wearing when I really don't, or I like the food they brought to a potluck, when I really don't. And I lie to my kids when they ask me if I smoked marijuana or got drunk when I was a teenager. Those are the only lies I tell. :)

I'm an Empath, and I don't have to see a person to know they are lieing. I can be txting someone, or having an online conversation .. and I can feel them lieing to me 3,000 miles away. I know when Im being lied to. And it makes every hair on my neck stand up. I cannot stand a liar. Everyone lies to a degree, and you woukd be a liar, to say thats not true. Some people lie, just to keep from making a person feel bad, or hurt them. But there are many types of liars. And I can tell with just looking at words and the vibes I get. Its worse when someone lies straught to my face, I usually dont say anything .. But there are times I do, and they aren't able to lie over the lie they are caught in. Its impossible to lie to an Empath. I was akso reading on the narcissist comments. I was married to a narcissist for years. We were very young when we married. As the years passed, I didnt understand his behavior until we were 20 years into it with children. He is an alcoholic on top of it. I left him a month before the death of our second child, she was murdered 3 weeks before her 26th birthday. The following year, our last daughter committed suicide, and his narcisstic tendencies were off the charts, with nobody to control n tried very hard to pull me back in. We've been divorced now for 4 years, and I still get controlling txts, that are full of accusations if jealousy. I cant be in the same room with him at times for no longer than 5 minutes. They are energy sucking vampires, and can be dangerous. I stayed all those years, thinking I was being a good mother, now that all 3 of my children are passed, looking back I wonder if I made the right choices. But, the ither side if me finds the positive things I took from it as well. Learn the traits of a narcissist and if you come across one pursuing you, run like your damn head is on fire. Because no matter what you do, or how much you love them - they will never change. And you will become the fuel to their fire. CF ♡

Very few can put up with repeated questioning in regards to an event that requires detailed answers and or proof of your whereabouts/ time place ect. Sometimes even those who tell the truth tend to get confused in repeated questioning.

His anxiety over the trauma he has been imprinted with is accepted by me and after a couple of hours of working together or just hanging out over a game of pool he settles into what can easily be mistaken for normal. He wouldn't tell a lie to me if it was on fire in his mouth. I just don't assume I'm confronted with a liar because of the tells - first I give them more rope until they tangle themselves in it.

So, he could just need a speech coach. Or, it could be that his diabetes has gotten worse and he’s having kidney or CHF issues. I hope its the former.

Gaslight? That was a British movie of the '40s with actor Charles Boyer. It was about a criminal tried convincing an heiress, that she was crazy so he could steal her dead aunt's jewels. What does Gaslight mean? Well, her husband (the criminal who married the victim) would turn down the gas for the lights in the house and then make noises to convince her she was going crazy believing in ghosts. Then, he would show up at the front door and say he heard and saw nothing. She must be crazy. All the while, he was searching for her aunt's jewels that he tried to steal 15 years earlier. Regards

Want to know if someone is lying? Ask them the question you want answered....then, be quiet. Don’t speak and let them ramble on. Guaranteed, they will feel uncomfortable if they are lying and drop themselves in it trying to convince you, they become paranoid. If they’re truthful, they will say what happened, and figure they’ve told the truth so they have no need to embellish their story. It works most of the time, obviously it’s not 100%, but like I said, guaranteed....it will definitely make a lying person uncomfortable. Huh dr Phil I'm afraid you are deluded. This sick, twisted system with its one size fits all gang mentality is built on absolute lies that permeate our pathetic society from the top matey. People should lead by example. Instead those in positions of influence and power are above the law. They are hypocrites. There is no wonder the world is spinning out of control when people like you stand up thee and spout such simplified clap trap. People lie for one reason and one reason only. Cos they can. It's a choice. And unless they admit, which is almost never or you can prove it beyond a doubt, you will always be left uncertain. Also most of the comments have this one thing in common. Neatly everybody has the signs you talk about in everyday life. It don't make em all liars do it sir. I can't lie. I'm low functioning. I'd drop myself innit. Yet if you had you're way you'd have us all in the slammer. Tut tut tut Mr. If it were that simple this godforsaken planet wouldn't be so full of the miserable, stinking toerags would it? I found this intriguing and very true. I have severe PTSD from an incredibly cruel father and 3 much older sisters. I'm 67 now, but I have found it almost impossible for me to lie and can count the times I have lied on the fingers of one hand. Here is why; When I was around five, I worked very hard for my mom on some project she had and was given a dollar. I saw in a magazine a little wooden battery car for .99 and she helped me to buy it. Before it came, dad found a small carrot with a bite out of the side in the garden. He made a big deal out of it and to find the guilty he compared tooth marks with all of us. Mine was the closest, and I was labeled a liar. For a month the round tube of my car and that carrot hung by a string from a wall sconce and I was make to look at it daily. I remember hating that car and just recently, in talking with my 75-year-old sister, she revealed that she, in a few days, confessed to him that she bit the carrot and was told to shut up. When he died in '86 I learned from her and another sister that he was angry I was born a boy, and by today's standards, he would have when to prison for what he did to them......

The thing is, without further investigation you don't know why why they are saying makes them uncomfortable or doesn't match their body language, it MIGHT be because they're lying or it may be for many other reasons.

Me too. I get so nervous when I see the police that one time I to pull over, I couldn't even see the road. The police stoped behind me and insisted that I was guilty of something. I never had a point on my licence or had a problem with the police, after about one hour they let me go. I called my son to come and drive the car home, I sold it and haven't driven in 15 years. Some people have fear of spiders I've of cops.

There are many times Dr. Phil gets it wrong, particularly when he states a CPS worker or a court evaluator's findings as if they are correct. Very, very sad for children whose abusive parent is a malignant narcissist.

the 'BS' he was talking about was called 'accessing' you have to prepare your interview room PUT the table between you and the suspect. put them in a place where they have access to the door, do not block the door.Talk to them about banalities and just chat. They will slowly relax - ask them 'harmless' questions, something like did they play baseball, and with each answer they will look up in an area might be left might be right, might be straight up or straight down but they will do it consistently. ask them questions that they have to think about for a minute, like who was your favorite teacher, if the last name is unusual make a comment that it is an unusual name, how do you spell that? (dont write it down - it spooks them) but they will do some accessing. Their bodies tell a lot, they might tap a pencil against their chin etc (not nervously) now that you know how they tell you the truth, spotting them lie is a cakewalk.

Some liars believe their lies are truth. In a relationship the man and the woman see things differently. I kept a journal and a tape recorder as advised by our marriage counselor. Even listening back on the recording my ex could still contradict and twist everything they said. Such chaos. Glad I'm out.

No human fully discloses themselves and the more high profile, the more private u keep things because u know everybody and there brother wants in on your life. At the end of the day we are all just humans imperfect and flawed. Dr.phil addresses real life issues and gives advice, better then some shows that make a spectacle of the people, degrade them and offer no solutions on how they could better themselves n those close to them.
