The Truth About Keith Richards And Mick Jagger's Relationship

Ойын-сауық

Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are the two best-known members of the Rolling Stones, a popular rock band. While this statement might be the most obvious thing in the world to our viewers of a certain age, the younger crowd might be a little fuzzy on the details of this essential rock n' roll relationship. In truth, no collaborative partnership, save perhaps Lennon and McCartney, has produced such a memorable and influential body of work, and the complex friendship between Jagger and Richards persists to this day. Mick and Keith were figureheads of real, substantive societal change in the 1960's. I consider the two of them, along with a handful of others, as being my musical mentors. A large part of what I know about music comes directly from them. I took an interest in them at the age of 3, rediscovered them at the age of 11, and never waivered. When others were listening to Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Prince and Madonna, I kept thinking to myself "This is okay, but it's really a pale imitation of what came before it." There's a reason why people keep coming back to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and others of that era. They grew out of an artistic and social renaissance that we may never see again in this lifetime. I love to joke about them, but they also have my utmost respect.

@@dannysdailys You are probably right, but, I noticed when we were working for recording studios that the guys often used the women as excuses to enact jumping ship, or quitting. I agree that bandmates significant others can absolutely have a very negative effect, but also noticed that musicians are inherently self centered and oblivious of what anyone else wants or likes or doesn't like. They pretty much do what they want without considering how much someone else might be affected. The same band members who people claim were letting their women make decisions for them never had any problem screwing around, letting someone else raise their kids, leaving families to go on tour for a year or sitting around while they worked in the studio. I've NEVER seen a musician who let anyone tell them ANYTHING about how they dealt with their band, even though it is usually blamed on someone outside. A classic example is Yoko Ono. Lennon was unhappy with the band at least a year before she came along, and was not showing up half the time. Lennon let Yoko hang out at the studio and drive everyone insane (he never let Cynthia do that), he never took responsibility for anything in his life. Even when he lived like a millionaire, which he was, he constantly talked about the "disgusting rich businessmen" who should take in homeless and feed them, etc., while living in spacious luxury in the Dakota and served by nannies, maids, cooks and assistants. It suited his image and his ego. Yoko was definitely probably the most irritating person on the face of the earth, but he used her to get out of his situation very successfully....

I also gathered from Keith's book that they still work together to a degree, but since the 80's they have been writing apart. You're referring to the recording/ production process where the band is figuring out the separate parts and the best way to present a song. Anyway, Keith acknowledged they have a working relationship, but that's all it is anymore. It's just not the same close relationship they once had.

Jagger a control freak? Someone had to be. Richards disappeared into heroin oblivion for 10 or so years. It was Jagger who had to run the show (other than songwriting). Richards couldn't be bothered. Too much pressure. And Keith is my favorite rocker of all time, the reason I play guitar. But when it came time to make decisions he was no where to be found for the most part. When he came back to life, there was resentment on Jagger's part when Richards wanted to get involved again. Understandable. Richards addiction was a major strain on Jagger and a detriment to the band as a whole.

I just can't believe that the Stones, who have made a career (over half a century) thumbing their nose at the establishment, have folded here. Brown Sugar is arguably one of the best rock and roll songs ever...raunchy, addictive guitar riff...amazing song. What's next? Midnight Rambler (raper/stalker), Starfucker (Star Star, about groupies), Under My Thumb (slightly misogynistic) , and the list goes on. Being "wrong" is what makes the Stones so right. Jagger isn't the only lyricist who wrote songs which were misogynistic. Lennon wrote Run For Your Life but later apologized for it. Humble Pie wrote The One Eyed Trouser Snake Rumba, Rod Stewart did Stay With Me and there were others but they were for the most part one off's. Jagger cultivated his image as a misogynist. Under My Thumb, Stupid Girl and perhaps the most chauvinistic song ever written, Backstreet Girl as well as several more, cemented his rep as a cad. The thing with Jagger is, he uses popular culture as a barometer to change his personality. I can't blame musicians for adopting the latest musical style in order to remain relevant, I may no like it but I understand that they have to make a living. But when everything someone does is a pretense, it is an insult to everything they've ever done in the past. Mick is a phony, his constantly changing personality is anathema to everything a rock 'n roller should be - genuine!

Keith is the principal songwriter ( Jagger mainly finishes lyrics ). One is the brains one is the artist. They need each other. Like brothers that love each other, they don't really like each other.

Critics asks when are the Stones going to retire. I have always heard that if you find something that love to do then you'll never work a day in your life. So my question is, How can the Stones retire when they have never worked a day in their lives? What the Stones do is a passion, it's not a job.

I know Keefe has cleverly cultivated the too cool for school personality. And he is my favorite pirate. However, I’m really tired of hearing every single story about their relationship focusing on Keith Richards barbs and problems with Mick. Why doesn’t anybody ever ask Mick What it was like to carry and baby Keith Richards for the 10 years he was a junkie and at the same time shoulder the burden of carrying the band? Probably because they wouldn’t get the kind of snark Keith gives. In fact, Jagger probably wouldn’t say anything at all.

Mick and Keith both have a larger than life personality. They were really cute in the beginning and I liked their songs more in the beginning because there was just something about their uncertainty and soul. In other words they tried harder from the heart. As far as them having lots of children, they can afford it. But is it fair the the children when you have them so late in life knowing you won’t be around to raise them? I Still like the Stone’s

Whatever you think, and tell the truth I'm not really interested, but consider this - can you imagine your life so far if there had been no Stones? Metaphorically speaking there are personality traits of both Mick and Keith in all of us. Respect to the women who have been in their lives, respect to their families and Rock In Peace Charlie ( hey Steve he'd be proud of you). I think Mr Jordan has kicked the lads up a gear - in my heart they're all playing for Charlie. Thanks Ronnie, thanks Darryl, miss you Lisa. BTW any ascerbic comments about missed intros and forgotten lyrics - like I said we all have have bad and good days esp with STM lol. Nicest thing I think Keith ever said about Mick apart from being best frontman, best harp player was ' it's tough treading the boards being considered semi divine - some of it has to rub off'. Oh yeah and ' I love the mother' lol. Love you Stones fans wish we had taken the world over by now. PS thanks for everything Brian, Mick T and every musician who has influenced or played on a Stones album/concert. We Love you - of course we do!

I strongly believe that Patti Hansen has done us all a massive favor by giving Keith a strong, reliable home for his dear heart and untold years added to his life and career. No longer a tortured soul, We are seeing the true spirit of love and contentment emerge from a happier, healthier Keith. As a lifelong fan, I appreciate the shit out of her for that. God bless their whole, lovely clan.

@@amyschwartz1791 Well said Amy without a doubt Patti has been essential to Keith's stability and continuing ability - as he says and I know it's a rootless existence without family. I once read another great thing about Patti is she would never sleep with Mick If you know your Stones history you'll probably know that Anita and Mick having an affair almost destroyed Keith. In fact I believe that was the end of their friendship as it was. Oh well some people say such is life. I guess that's where Keith took his autobiography's title from lol. I think they've all reconciled now. Well written - the Stones have had relationships with some extraordinary women in their lives. I'd recommend reading Marianne Faithfull's first autobiography. It's hard to find but worth the read Peace

Charlie was a jazz drummer at heart. He's actually not comfortable playing rock drums. Being a drummer I can hear this in his playing. This tension gave Charlie a uniques sound. Hard to explain, but his discomfort created a sound. It's going to be very hard replacing this unique situation. I don't think they will ever be able to get the same groove without him. All this is meant to be a compliment to Charlie. On top of that, he was a true English gentleman.
