My favorite is Godzilla battle Royale

I love the guy who made a trilogy of the Anime Trilogy Godzilla having massive anime fights with Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla and they're unironically better than the actual trilogy lol

I feel as though over the years Toho has gotten a little more lenient towards fan films. The people who did “Godzilla vs Gigan Rex” and “Godzilla vs Megalon” short films started out making fan films before making official shorts for Toho.

Just started it today lol, Im gonna watch it soon;)) looks nice!!

I did some of the cinematography on Godzilla Battle Royale (the crowd scene you showcase is my work, natch!). Billy poured his heart and soul into making that film with almost no prior experience in filmmaking and it's a testament to his creativity and imagination. Also much love for Kaiju Killer, that one actually came out in 2009!! I also shoot and edit the short films made by Dojo Studios at GFEST and can attest to the complexities of filming amateur tokusatsu - further exacerbated by our limited time, scope, and resources available to us each year for production. Still, one of the questions we get asked every year is why we don't make Godzilla shorts, and our answer is two-fold. First, (to us) it's more fun to play around in a sandbox that doesn't have pre-conceived notions on what characters should look like, act, or think. We draw inspiration from Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, etc, mix and match it to our own liking, and create our own lore and mythology! Secondly (and most relevantly), we don't want to get in hot water with Toho. Anyway, great video and keep it up!

Thanks for liking Godzilla Apex, it was a really tough project to tackle. Did nearly all the vfx for it lol

4:15 when you said “fan films could lead to confusion among consumers” it reminded me something that happened a few months ago, some older dude called our video game/movie store and asked if we had “Godzilla vs Ultraman 5” and of course most of us know that isn’t an official movie, i had to look it up and the full thing was up on YT

Zilla Vs Gorosarus, Zilla Vs Kong and Gigan rex are some great fan made animations.

"Toho likely wants to protect the integrity of the Godzilla franchise."? Has Toho seen ALL MONSTERS ATTACK/GODZILLA'S REVENGE and SON OF GODZILLA? Those films did far more damage to the brand than the fan films, which were made by fans who have a lot of love and respect and reverence, did.

There's a found footage fan film I saw that plays as a 1950 documentary, it's called living with monsters (Godzilla found footage)

Just a reminder that we haven't seen anguirus since 2004. If fans can use your ip better than you, you're doing something wrong.

so is this why stuff like Kaiju Universe or Kaiju Arisen got taken down? (I feel like Fangames also fall under Fan Projects) IDK if its just me or if it was confirmed, but Toho took down many Games like it, they either were cancelled, Trying to get Licenses for it, Hidden or Had their models Remodeled to something else. so i dont really know for sure if its just Japans Copyright System

Great video! While I would love to see more fan Godzilla projects, I do see how much these cost to even make and the constant threat of TOHO striking their hard work down. Yet I think that maybe with time, more and more full-on Godzilla fan projects will be made because, like the big G himself, this fanbase has infinite potential.

Loved the video, I'm kinda glad that Toho is so protective of Godzilla. The films have always brought joy to me.

I wondered if you'd bring up Godzilla vs the kaiju killer! I certainly had fun with it when I came across it I thinl the suit designs were more impressive than most fan works. Heritage's fall is still a sad spot for me though

Another great set of Godzilla fan films are from Lacronomos. They use stop motion with Kaiju figures from Neca, Sh Monsterarts, Revoltech, and many custom made. Their films are really good at telling a monster focused story

Going on Two Years of making a Godzilla Series.. on season 2 at the moment, and haven’t been hit with any of that mentioned in your video… we are a tiny channel though so 🤷‍♂️.

One of the most popular ones is probably the Triangle vs Monkey series by Blunt Brothers Production. It's an animated story about Godzilla and Kong first fighting each other and then accidentally landing in other universes and being forced to fight the creatures and characters from those universes and the story slowly evolves from there. It's great fun with amazing humor.

Stop-motion Godzilla fan films are big definitely a good topic for the future

I remember when there was hype for the fan film: Godzilla zero hour. It would have been interesting to have seen it completed two decades back.

I’ve been wanting to watch Godzilla Heritage ever sense I found out about it. I just want a copy online to exist to it doesn’t become lost media. Everyone celebrated when Mickey Mouse became public domain. I’m just counting down the years until Gojira and then Godzilla: King of the Monsters becomes public domain….then we can use Raymond Burr’s likeness without fear of getting sued. XD

I'm sorry but HOW could you leave out the CG fan films by Methlokaijufan97?! Everything that guy makes is pure GOLD, and his Godzilla: Convergence series is absolutely top-notch!

My personal favorite fan films are Godzilla Wrath of The Hybrid, and Slick's Videos, like Godzilla vs Destroyah, and The Battle Royals.

I had actually seen most of these before, but thanks for turning me onto some new ones too! I've always been super bummed about what Toho did to Heritage and it sucks that most of us will never get to see it (so if anybody could help me out there, it would be awesome)

Just so you are aware, companies like Toho (or any big film studio) considers that to be unsolicited material and will often discard it immediately without looking at it. They do it to protect themselves legally so you then can't try and sue them saying "They ripped me off and didn't give me credit!". It sucks but that's just how the industry works :/

I love Godzilla X the Kaiju Killer personally. And if I ever made a Godzilla movie, it would be heavily influenced by that fan film. I guess I’m into the edgy and dark stuff. Though it could use some more brighter color.

Toho also cracked down on artists that have Godzilla illustrations.

I'm confused. How does Toho pick fan films to target? Do they only come after creators if their video makes money, or is monetized by KZread? Or do they go after creators who use Godzilla or relating monsters to the Godzilla franchise?

At the very least we have Godzilla Analog Horror, pretty decent analog horror at that so yay!

"Gojira ゴジラ - blender animation" by TAIYAKI probably looks closest to the original and does have amazing sound effects and for the whole film, it actually looks like it was made in the 50s and not in blender.
