    I know ZK. I play the same way. He hit some pretty bad variance his first year out West. I think it's exasperated by the fact that so many less hands are being played. So bad variance seems worse when you're back counting because you're dreading the long wait for the next advantage shoe. I spent most of this year over $6,300 in the red because of it. Combine that with my recreational playing hours and it's diapers and a binky for me ☺

    I would think most "card counters" don't even know or play accurate basic strategy. In order to keep your 1% to 1.2% edge, you must play perfect strategy. Every basic strategy mistake you make costs you money even with a bad count. That $5 bet you lost could be the difference between going home early with no bankroll, or starting a run.

    Backing counting worked great for me, was Wonging it before it was called that. I was playing that technique before it was called that. I used the advanced point system by L.Revere and has worked out great for me. But now after team play, with BP routines and over 40 years of playing, I’m back to lone wolfing it. So I’ve progressed to higher limit tables where no mid shoe entry is allowed. Still do well but I do play lots of negative shoes with many negative variations, which by the way other players think I’m an idiot, go cover I guess. I never stay more than an hour at a casino, move around a lot, and always have a fake drink in my hand. Works for me!

    At the casino I work at we usually don't care if someone's counting cards because its not giving the player a significant edge only if the person is truly skilled at counting, but if someone is winning more than they are losing while playing musical chairs sitting out hands and leaving and coming back, there is immediate suspicion, and then someone will be tasked with watching the player and if they are sitting out hands and waiting and watching the table, it won't go unnoticed, and this is when someone will approach you with the intention to distract you, if that doesn't work, I've even heard stories of inspectors knocking the shoe off the table 'by accident' when the count is high

I wouldn't jump in until the TC was +3 or higher because I didn't want to jump in for just a hand or two. I bet big, so I wanted a good count before I started. At one of the casinos I occasionally go to (because it is like 3 hours away), their tables have two bet places behind where others can bet on YOUR hand and you can bet on theirs. You can bet as many places as people are playing. It never even occurred to me until now that this is the perfect situation to back count and wong because many of the people don't even play their own hand (unless the table was full with people sitting down). They just stand there and watch and then place their bets. Duh, me!

They’d actually wait for a True 3 count with 3 decks remaining, (3 to3 Rule), before even considering to play. Pretty amazing stuff. My biggest problem is that I’m usually too short and the high tables keep me from being able to do that as easily is most casinos. Thanks again guys! Love watching these videos every week! I don't know where you're playing. I had every deterrent a card counter could face thrown at me and that was 35 years ago. Shuffling up, told I had to bet the same amount every hand, kicked out of Binion's for playing $1 to $25(while the guy next to me was betting & losing $100 per hand) at a 1-deck pitch game, etc. You're right, Vegas DOESN'T want winners. I got the evil eye 5 minutes after I sat down at the Golden Nugget while playing $3 per hand. The final straw for me was in 2017 at Binion's when I noticed they were only paying 6:5 on Blackjack. I don't know why anyone even plays anymore. Additionally, I tried backcounting once and jumped in when the count was great. I was told I couldn't do that and would have to wait for a new shoe. Also, I tried sitting out hands while the count was negative and was told I couldn't do that either. Like I said, I don't know where you're playing. But Vegas casinos were shutting down my "moves" 35 years ago. So I don't know how they allow you to make these various moves.

    Have you ever been in a situation where you're back counting and the count gets really high BUT you can't play because the table is full? In a situation like this, would you consider sizing up the different players and determine who's able to make correct playing decisions and bet behind that person, or would you never trust a stranger with your money? I hate to waste a good count so I do this sometimes. Yes, the random person unaware of the count doesn't get the benefit of playing deviations but it's better than nothing. • @russlehman2070

    Back counting works best if you have a pit with lots of tables, most of which have an empty seat or two. Then when one table goes negative, you just look for a table with an open seat that's just starting a new shoe and watch it.A lot of casinos don't open new table until the ones currently open are full. In that case you may be better off locking up a seat and wonging out, leaving your chips on the table to hold your seat while you take a bathroom break or make or take that important phone call.

    Azlann forsure don’t start counting mid shoe. That is equivalent of having really bad deck penetration. You might start counting when the true count is -3 and then when you think the TC is +2 you start increasing your bet but in reality the count is -1. Always start your count from the 1st card in the shoe no matter if you are back counting or at the table

It's completely fine to start counting midshoe, the only difference is that when calculating the true count, you need to take the cards still in the shoe _and_ the cards that you missed before you started counting into account. Derek's logic here is inaccurate because even though you could be joining at a true -3, it's just as likely that you are joining on a true +3, and the effects of those counts cancel perfectly.

    The problem with back counting and Wonging in is that if you're only playing hands at a TC of +2 or higher, you're only playing 20% of the hands dealt. Pit bosses catch on to this quickly if you're standing and watching and just jumping in now and then. I find it's better to Wong out when the count goes negative by taking frequent bathroom breaks. It draws much less attention.

  • @russlehman2070

    @russlehman2070

    @Dementia Joe I use the "bathroom break" wong out sometimes, and what I usually do is simply stay out until the start of the next shoe. Once the count gets to -1 true or less, it's fairly unusual for that shoe to get to an advantageous count . So, you generally don't miss many opportunities using that stratege. Also, by wonging out, you get a bit of and edge, or at least reduce the house edge, on shoes with a lot of big cards at the top.

    I have run all the sims on this and hand for hand it is probably twice as profitable as playing all. By switching to more promising tables after the shuffle you can also actually get more money down in good counts. The biggest problem is it both looks odd as hell plus the regular players hate it. Like the last thing you ever want is to be counting cards anyway, then the very first thing you wind up doing is raising casino suspicion plus pissing off the table possibly leading to complaints to the pit and dealer. Only time I ever did this is in a semi-crowded casino with many tables but most half to 2/3 full. The one benefit is that you can do this without using a bet spread so some casinos won't bust you ever for counting. Wonging out is always a good plan though.

  • @jl2696
    @jl26965 ай бұрын

    Doing this got me backed off quickly after a couple of hours (it took that long to notice because of a crowded table / casino). It may still work with 6 or 8 deck games but casinos watch double deck and 4 deck shoes very closely. Plus a lot of casinos have gotten smarter and started banning players from midshoe entry or not playing every hand. So in a lot of cases it simply isnt possible to avoid playing through negative counts

There is no “stacking the odds” in roulette, i.e., there is no winning strategy where one can expect gains over time. No one can deny your experience (again, congratulations on the winnings) but you have not found a winning strategy for roulette. In other words, the casino “cheated” at the roulette table before you ever got there. And your winnings are all the money lost by the schmucks who thought they had a winning system before you got to the table.

You'd need to make gigantic max bets on the tiny advantage offered by true count 1 (significantly increasing your risk of ruin) to make any money at all. So yes it's possible to make a profit but you'd make more money getting a minimum wage job at McDonald's instead.

And by bets size, either same dollar amount, or percentage (when they bet small / big depending when they think the deck is rich) Like if you're just a normal player who will lose long term?

    Yes although you wouldn't get the benefit of knowing their playing deviations due to the count.
