The Trip Fell Apart RVing New Zealand's South Island - 8th Continent Episode 4

Final Episode: Stranded in Paradise | 8th Continent Series 🌏
Join us in the breathtaking conclusion of our "8th Continent" adventure as we explore the untamed beauty of New Zealand's South Island in March 2020. From the world-renowned vineyards of Marlborough to the surreal landscapes of Fiordland National Park, every moment is a step into the pages of a visual diary.
In this episode, we dive into the heart of New Zealand's wine country, savoring the crisp Sauvignon Blancs and exploring vineyards that paint a lush picture of the region's agrarian lifestyle. Unexpected geological wonders await at Ward Beach with its mystifying Moeraki Boulders, and the adorable fur seals of the Oahu overlook provide an unexpected twist to our journey.
As we venture further, the serene yet rugged terrains of the Southern Alps beckon, leading us to hidden trails and secluded lakes that are straight out of a fairytale. But as the global backdrop shifts with the COVID-19 pandemic, our journey takes a dramatic turn. Stranded far from home, we face closures and travel restrictions, turning our adventure into a race against time to return safely.
Experience the climax of our series where stunning natural beauty meets unforeseen challenges. Watch as we navigate the complexities of a world in flux, all while capturing moments of pure wonder and raw emotion. Don't miss out on the powerful finale that reminds us why we travel: to explore, to discover, and to connect.

Thanks for sharing, I was also in NZ in a Wilderness motorhome when Covid hit! I managed to get back to North Island on the last ferry, and ended up in New Plymouth! Was there for several weeks before getting a flight back to the UK. AM Heading back to NZ in October for 2 months, again with wilderness. Blessings.

I did not expect to enjoy this series as much as I have. Brings back the C19 memories. Glad y'all were able to get back with a modicum of trouble.

I've thoroughly enjoyed watching these videos, as I have your others, although certainly felt your anxiety towards the end. I'm a NZ'er who was travelling in a Wilderness motorhome when we were locked down. Like you I stayed in freedom camping sites with little or no cell service and was almost oblivious to the situation until I checked in at a campground in Picton. Oops! The drive back to Christchurch seemed endless the next day but Wilderness and the motel I managed to book for 2 nights before flying home to the North Island were wonderfully helpful. I was able to carry on with my journey while our borders were still closed and the quiet roads and campsites were blissful! Thank you for all the adventures you've been sharing.

So glad that you still had a great time in NZ, but what a bummer to have your trip cut short PLUS all that anxiety of getting back to the north island, then getting back to LA, and finally back home! NZ certainly had among, if not THE, most stringent restrictions back then of any place in the world. It's definitely still on our bucket list to visit though! 🏞🚐

That is sooo cool! I have heard all kinds of things about Australia's Outback as a special place. I hear about New Zealand less so. You guys sold me! One day I'll get to the country too. I don't think I've seen such beautiful footage of mountains and lakes. You got good filming weather. I think glacier swimming has got to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime things to do! And that freedom camping site! Adding New Zealand road travel to my bucket list! Lovely video, Mortons!

Another delightful episode. NZ definitely has some stunning scenery. Also very interesting to look back at that time with the benefit of hindsight and knowledge we have now and didn't then. Must have been very unsettling, not knowing when/if you could get home, and what we were facing. Hopefully if we ever face something similar, people, leaders and governments will have learned from this experience and not make the many same mistakes. Sadly, I have serious doubts if that would be the case. Did I mention how gorgeous the landscapes are? We can't wait to make a trip ourselves! Is there another NZ episode, or is that it? How much of your trip was cut short? Plans to go back? And... Cait plays piano?!? Missed that until now somehow!

What a striking tree, truly a photographers favorite. It's fascinating to me that you are just releasing a video that the content was from 4 years ago. - Michelle

I too was on vacation in oregon when covid hit, I had to cancel the rest of it as Oregon and California were shutting down and so I drove from Bend Oregon to San Francisco and next day drove non stop to Tucson, AZ, of course not as bad as your situation being thousands of miles further, since then I bought a Honda Goldwing and have traveled through 45 of the 48 lower states in the last 3 years, hoping to finish them this summer, so happy travels to you as well.....Javi G.
