Anyone who has spent any time around reservations heard the stories and met survivors. Now we have so many hashtags amd slogans but that doesn't do anything to fix the issue. So many people don't do anymore than post a story and act like they are leading the charge for change... The fact the reaction was so huge means there were a lot of ignorant idiots surrounding Canada's history. People love to pretend they aren't just as bad as those they put down... It's really the people on social media doing nothing but posting hashtags and then calling out goverment... So many people nowadays point out problems without solutions. While I am not a huge Hip fan myself, it's difficult to describe to someone from the US what they mean to Canadians. This band is absolutely beloved up here. The story of Gord Downie's illness and his final Canadian tour is both heartbreaking and inspiring, and it was all documented in a film called Long Time Running. I mean, the man was dying of brain cancer, and he managed to put all of his remaining strength into this final tour, with the entire country seemingly following along every step of the way. He passed away not too long after the final performance. RIP, Gordy baby.

Everyone has their suggestions, so I'll through mine in, too. Scared from the album Day for Night is my favorite Hip song. Fantastic band, though the subject matter of their songs are very, very steeped in Canadian culture, so if you're not sure of the any of their song's meanings, just ask your Canuck fans...we'll fill ya in. Some other tracks to check out include "38 Year Old"; "Three Pistols"; "Long time Running"; "Courage"; "Fifty Mission Cap"; "Grace Too"; "Nautical Disaster"; "Springtime in Vienna"; "So Hard Done By"; "Thompson Girl"... the list goes on, and on... Keep up playing great music, my man! RIP Gord Downie (the Hip's lead singer, who died of brain cancer in Oct. 2017)!!!

I have recommended The Tragically Hip to a lot of reaction channels, but yours is one of the first I've seen. They are a national treasure up here in Canada, and my only regret in this life is that I never saw them live more often before Gord passed away. Their last live performance was seen by something like a THIRD of all Canadians. Their discography is huge, and well worth any amount of attention you give it, trust me.

The same cancer that took Neil Peart took lead Singer Gord Downie. He wasn't as private about it as Neil was, but instead went out on a cross country farewell tour after his diagnosis and also recorded and released some solo works. Check out "The Secret Path". It really hits home for a lot of Canadians due to the recent discovery of the graves of Indigenous children that were forced into the residential school system, abused, and many lost their lives.

Maybe if Jamel does the first song on The Secret Path - The Stranger - Jamel, the whole album is about Chanie Wenjack's failed attempt to run away from a Residential school and return home to his family. He did make it home in a way in that his body was returned to his family and they buried him at home. Many kids who died at Residential school were buried in unmarked graves around the schools and their parents didn't know that they died until they came to pick them up. The stories out of Canada recently, similar stories will be coming out in Australia and the USA.

Back in the late 80's I was attending the U of Manitoba, I was in my first 'real' band with some older students in their final year, and 3 of us went for a drink at the U of M's student union bar. On the tiny stage was this unknown band from Kingston, with a crazy, spastic long-haired lead singer. My lead singer wasn't too impressed with them. Our keyboardist said 'I dunno, they DO have a cool name - the Tragically Hip. That's half the battle.' That was at the very start of the Hip's journey.
