Blanche Monnier was a french aristocrats daughter in the 1800's who was locked in the attic of the family home for 25 Years. She was starved, and mistreated to such extreme levels that the images of her when she was found are genuinely difficult to comprehend. While her family were very rich Blanche lived in dirt and squalor trapped by her own mother for the crime of falling in love with someone her mother did not approve of.

I've undubbed from numerous channels that promoted this scam. Lordships in Scotland are inherited, though they can come with the sale of a castle or manor. Which happens rarely. I'll leave you subbed for now as you're an exceptional channel, but given your excellent research skills, Lee, you should have applied them to this sponsor before promoting them.

There is an alternative version of the story that I have only seen in French articles. The photo that is supposedly of Blanche is actually of an unknown woman and the other version recounts that Blanche was actually severely mentally ill and was locked away with inadequate mental help. It doesn't mention any lover either.

To subject your own daughter to that inhumane treatment ( you wouldn't treat an animal like that), the mother must have had 3 6s marked on her. Blanche was found at 50, on a blanket covered in her own filth, rotten food and rats. All because she fell in love with a lawyer who had less money than her extravagant family. This is an indictment on humanity. 4:32

Even when you are afraid to take a stand for what is right, you have to fight that fear and do the right thing! I was at a party once and 3-4 guys were making fun of this girl that was there alone and had her head down taking their abuse. I bit down and jumped in and got them to leave her alone. A few years later I was having a job interview with the manager of a place called Godfathers pizza. It just so happened that the same girl I had defended worked there and when she saw me in the lobby getting interviewed she jumped in and said "He's really nice! Hire him!" And I got the job thanks to her. All evil needs to win is for good men to do nothing!

I was in a similar position once in a pub, and these men were hassling me. Another man stepped in and told them to clear off, and then sat with me for the rest of the night. We kept in touch and are still good friends to this day.
It’s so sad that her soul mate probably died thinking she abandoned him. 💔 Poor poor Blanche she deserved so much better. 😔
Did anyone else here pause the video to admire how absolutely stunningly beautiful Blanche was before the incident? Quite a sad thing what happened to her. But I hope her to be in a much better place now.

"Blanche" means "white". Her mother must have been expecting a naive, obedient daughter, which Blanche clearly wasn't, given the fact she refused to marry until she turned 26. Such a beautiful young woman she was. I feel terrible for her and her beloved fiancé.
the way Blanche was barely alive and left with the bare sustenance to keep her breathing? absolutely attrocious.
They didn't even give her a way to use the toilet or take a bath. Alone for 25 years... I can't comprehend it, and I'm a major introvert.

This case break's my heart. The thought of people being held captive or tormented/tortured for long periods of time, is some of the most heartbreaking horrific events that could happen to someone.
Reading it and hearing you tell it....it is heartbreaking and gives me a chance to think of those 25 years. It is triggering in a way, because it is so hard to be alone with my thoughts and she went through this for 25 years.

To be stripped away of your freedom for what seems to be the rest of your life, to be abused by someone you thought you knew, to be kidnapped.. by someone you once trusted; to me, being held captive is one of the worst crimes someone can commit to a fellow human being.
@PeakedInterest

Completely agree. That's the part about the story that really resonated with me - family should support you, not trap you.
As a srory of love, this is cruelly tragic for both. Blanche never renouncing her love for the poor lawyer, even at the cost of her beauty, mind, and body. And her fiance, using every last penny he possessed, and the last 10 years of his life looking for her, only to be lied to that she moved on and married in Scotland. If there's any solace to be found, I can imagine them faithfully embracing in heaven forever now.
She was so beautiful. The fact that she never gave in to his mothers demands for her to not love him is really telling of her character. She should have been able to be with the man who never stopped looking for her until the day he died.
That story couldn't have been told with more compassion & yet still been as factual as it was. Well done.

My great great grandmother became pregnant out of wedlock in 1906. She was locked in the little room under the stairwell until she died of starvation and pneumonia. They gave my great grandpa to the family down the road bc the lady had just had a baby and could breastfeed him, too. She was able to keep him hidden for about 2 weeks before they found out she had a baby. He didn't even know he was "adopted" until his kids were adults. There's no official adoption info or anything bc they just handed him over to the family. My grandma did a ton of ancestry research and we found out more about it all. There was record of a doctor treating the rest of the family for pneumonia, and he mentioned my g g grandma, but they wouldn't allow him to treat her. She died and was buried in an unmarked grave. My grandma was eventually able to find out the area she was buried at. It's so incredibly tragic the things that have happened and continue to happen to so many people. I heard of her story before, but I still wanted to see if there was something he covered that I hadn't heard before. They didn't even tell their kids what sex was or how babies came to be back then. My great aunt was told they come from tree trunks and cabbages. She was on a date and they thought they heard a baby crying. They took some sticks and went over to a tree trunk and were trying to rescue the baby. That was in the 50s. I can only imagine 1906! My grandma told me they didn't know their mom was even pregnant. She would just bring home a new baby and tell them they had a new brother/ sister. That's so wild to me.
Disgusting what people can do only for wealth and status.

Marcel should never have been released. Poor Blanche never deserved to be imprisoned. Some people take beautiful, free, vibrant songbirds and lock them in dark, filthy cages for their own sick pleasure. Blanche’s family was made of these people.
Phenomenal video, honestly the quality is comparable to shows you’d find on the BBC and big production companies (but better because of the care you put into it). Never heard of this case before, how upsetting, especially for the fiancé never knowing where his love had gone.

I've recently subscribed, your vids are so professional it's like I'm watching a documentary on tv. Very interesting .
I have only barely started watching this, and already my first thought was "This has to be the true story behind 'Flowers in the Attic' by V.C. Andrews." VC Andrews, whom I assume is a female writer, was one of my favorite writers when I was a teenager. Weird, I know. But I LOVED "Flowers in the Attic," "My Sweet Audrina," and many other books by her. I'd read that FITA was based on a true story. I thought it was based on something she'd gone through herself. But, now, watching your video, I'm convinced the book had to have been based on this person's life. VC Andrews must have heard of this story at some point and decided it would make a great book. Life can be cruel sometimes 😢
Even if Blanche chose not to leave the room (which only would have happened from the abuse she'd suffered so far) then a decent person would have called a doctor. Also, what a deeply pathetic family, like down to their physical core - Blanche outlived them all even though she'd been a captive for so long and they lived wealthy and healthy lives.
My spouse has one of those Scotland land titles, framed in the kitchen. Also I've seen them on Facebook their memes are very silly and never fail to make me laugh 😂 I've heard this story several times but it's always absolutely tragic. I can't even imagine how anyone can leave their loved ones in such a state, even if you keep them locked in a room to "keep them from disrespecting the family name" how could they leave her in such a horrid condition.
