If Charlotte hadn’t died in childbirth, she would have been Queen of UK and Leopold would have been King Consort. Leopold was Queen Victoria’s uncle. Queen Victoria may never have become Queen.

Indeed, Victoria was only born due to Charlotte's death. Charlotte dying in childbirth with her child sent all of Charlotte's uncles on a frenzy to find young brides and be the first to produce an heir. Victoria's father won - tho he died shortly after.

A great book, that goes into the upbringing King George III children, the courtship of George and his wife, Charlotte’s childhood and death, and all the Dukes rush to produce an heir, is Becoming Queen by Kate Williams.

Princess Charlotte of Wales is the perfect example of a person who changed the course of British and world history and did not even realize it. Charlotte's husband Prince Leopold later remarried and became the first royal king of modern day Belgium. His son, later Leopold II later released upon the world the horrors that would become the Belgian Congo in Africa. Prince Leopold's sister( I think she was also Victoria)married Edward, Duke of Kent, the younger brother of George, Princess Charlotte's father and they both became the parents of Queen Victoria, who ruled the British empire in the 1800's. Leopold and Charlotte would have ruled Britain had Charlotte and her baby lived. They truly kept this in the family. Princess Charlotte and Queen Victoria did not know each other but they were first cousins and both granddaughters of the legendary British King George III whom the American colonies fought the Revolutionary War with to gain independence from Britain in 1776. George III's wife was also named Charlotte.

What a wonderful channel I found. Such a fascinting, and extraordinarily sad story of beautiful Princess Charlotte. Childbirth was so often lethal for mums so long ago. I'll remember this story for days to come.

Read the book, becoming Queen by Kate Williams. It is an easy read. It begins with the day Prince George’s marriage to Caroline of Brunswick and also delves into all of King George III children, their “partners” and families with multiples of illegitimate children, charlotte’s birth, George and Caroline’s animosity and use of their daughter, Charlotte and Leopold’s wooing and marriage, the pregnancy and death. Then the mad rush of all of the dukes abandoning their families to get married, produce legitimate children (many died in the process) and then Charlotte birth through Albert’s death and beyond. Great book.

You can see the family resemblance between Queen Victoria & her cousin/aunt by marriage Princess Charlotte. Had Charlotte lived, Queen Victoria may not have even been born as her Dad, Prince Edward only married her Mom Victoria of Saxe- Coburg- Saalfield to have a legitimate child...

Her parents are certainly not the only royal couple who were not keen on each other.

This princess shaped the entire course of history, if Charlotte had lived she would have been Queen Charlotte I of the United Kingdom and her husband Leopold prince consort, and thus Leopold II of Belgium would not have existed nor would we have the genocide of the people of the Congo enslaved by the hands of Leopold II, just as Queen Victoria would not have existed as she was the result of the race for the next heir to the throne and her father Edward Duke of Kent won, without Queen Victoria without her marriage to Prince Albert and without her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. and a large part of them mixed with other members of the European royal families, that is without Kaiser Wilhelm II, Nicholas II, George V and of course without Queen Elizabeth II and the current King Charles III. The death of Princess Charlotte of Wales changed the entire course of history not only of the succession to the British throne but also of several European monarchies

@@mariafernandez5221 Are you insane. She MIGHT have had a drop of Moorish blood from way back. Hardly an African lineage. Why are you spreading these lies. It takes a few minutes to check your facts before you write.
