    I mean she was quite educated but she seems too naive to have actually been an effective queen if given the chance. I still feel she deserved better than getting betrayed by her own father.

    @Jinella Frederique that's what I said, her family was greedy for power and so her parents used their own daughter to gain control over England. Her mother was an abusive person while her father only cared for power. Worst thing about this is that apparently her mother got away with it...

    And her mother was very abusive. She'd always hurt her to bleeding if she didn't obey. Her father didn't care about her and wanted to assert authority on the throne for himself. Jane only wanted to keep reading books and studying, doing her passion. What a tragic life and destiny.

    @@raumaanking It's an interesting thought if lady Jane Grey had become queen in 1603. Would the Stuarts come into power after her death had she not had any children? Maybe. James I of England was on the throne until 1625. We know what happened to his son, Charles I.

  • @mangot589

    @mangot589

    3 жыл бұрын

    Cosmin Contra Decapitation was a particularly much used device in the Tudor age. To them, she wasn’t underage. Mary didn’t want to execute her, she agonized over it, but what with her having gone so far as to be “crowned”, the fact that her throne could never be secured as long as Jane was the Protestant contender, and would always be the figurehead to plots to overthrow her🤷‍♀️. Mary knew perfectly well Jane was innocent, but felt she had no choice. But after all the burnings and persecutions Im willing to bet the population wished they had supported Jane instead at the beginning!

    Cosmin Contra Np. 😉 yeah. The religion thing was a bitter, contentious mini war for generations, each faction trying to get their person on the throne. Plenty of persecutions, and James the second even lost his throne because he was a catholic. There hasn’t been on one the throne since, which made for some pretty distant relatives becoming monarch. Oh, and the Ireland problems, that have just settled down recently, that was pretty much the result of that, too.

    They were such religions fanatics-some of them hearing Mass several times a day (that’s ‘cra-cra)-and when they knew there was no longer a chance to get out of it, they resigned themselves. The only one I remember having a particularly bad time of it was Jane’s involuntary husband, Guildford. He requested to see Jane one last time in jail, but she sent back a message telling him to buck up and face it.
