The TRAGEDY of the Apricorn Balls in Pokémon

Ойындар

Check out my video on the Moon Ball:
• An In-Depth ANALYSIS o...
When I was younger, I was disappointed that the Apricorn Balls weren’t available outside of the Johto games so I was thrilled when I found out Pokémon Sun and Moon would return them to the franchise.
Even though Apricorn Balls are technically available in most games since Alola, they have been made extremely rare. Since these Apricorn Balls aren’t super useful, I question why they are so hard to get ahold of.

Even if they are not the best Pokeballs, I still love them. The designs are amazing and I wish way more of the modern balls in gen 3 and beyond were designed similarly with cool visuals or colorful visuals overall. Though agreed they should have them be more available. Maybe like a special shop in a large city or town for the region that mentions Kurt having mast produced the balls to allow trainers more options. Just anything really. I mean I loved getting them from the dex completions in S/V (I was way to addicted to that lol) but it does suck I only get a few. Heck the friend ball I had now I only have 1 since I used my other to get Ogerpon.

Yeah, this is so true. I'm a shiny hunter and I LOVE putting shinies in Pokeballs that match their colors. And the varriety of regular Pokeballs is just not enough so actually be able to use the aprikorn balls would be so cool instead of never using them because they are so rare that I'm too scared too use them because of the possibility to fail the catch and therefore the only ball of that type.

Man that must be so frustrating. Modern apricorn balls are pretty much incompatible with shiny hunting because you have to save before you use an apricorn ball in case it just breaks and you lose it. Such a shame especially with things like moon ball and love ball that would work so well with so many shinies. Dream ball (I know it’s not an apricorn ball but they do the same “once per game” nonsense with it) is another great ball gone to waste in this regard. If they were a little rare but not impossible to get multiple of they would synergize well with shiny hunting. I did a video on the main channel about the rarity of the luxury ball in generation 3 and how it can make shiny hunting with that ball specifically really interesting in gen 3.

Technically, two of the examples you provided are not *quite* alike. Luxury Ball increases the *rate* at which friendship is gained, while Friend Ball *instantly* sets the caught Pokémon's friendship value to 200; and Nest Ball works better the lower the target Pokémon's level is, becoming as effective as a regular Poké Ball from level 30 upwards, while the Level Ball bases its catch rate multiplier on the level difference between your Pokémon and the opposing Pokémon. You're right about the Lure Ball, though. Also, we have gotten new Poké Balls after Generation IV, but I guess you don't count those?

Yeah there are subtle differences between the two. However, the functions of the apricorn versions are not so much better that they justify the rarity. No, I don’t count Dream Ball or Beast Ball because they can’t be bought in shops. Dream Ball was, at first, just the ball they put Dream World Pokémon in. They’re more so “special” poke balls (the beast ball barely works on non-ultra beasts which leads to kinda fun challenges but isn’t by any means a significant new addition. The closest thing to a new Poké Ball is the post gen V Dream Ball that was changed to work better on sleeping Pokémon which is actually extremely powerful and does justify an increased rarity. However, no Poké Ball (except the Master Ball) should be “once per game” as the Dream Ball is because the whole thing about Poké Balls is that their success rate is (in part) determined by luck so it isn’t fair to the player that they can lose a once per game item based on circumstances out of their control.

@@GameCubicleClips I understand your logic. What about the balls in Legends Arceus? Did you exclude them because they're exclusive to that game?

@@wikiuser92 More so because Legends Arceus is a "different" kind of game and the new balls introduced aren't apart of the more standard games (as of now). I was actually pretty dissapointed Legends Arceus didn't have more Poké Balls because throwing them is so fun in that game it would have been awesome to have a variety to choose from. Not sure why I'm so obsessed with the different Poké Balls haha. It's apart of the game that always fascinated me ever since my first game back in gen IV. Back then they introduced new balls every generation so I was really disappointed when gen V ended that. Devils advocate: I actually almost understand why they don't usually introduce new ones because if they introduced an overpowered one it could actually really mess up game balance (just look at how OP Dusk Ball is for catching legendaries). I don't think that fully justifies never introducing new ones but if I had to guess that's probably why. I'll probably do larger videos on my main channel on this subject. Anyway, thank you for your contribution the discussion!

I know it was mentioned in another comment but, the friend ball is leagues better than the luxury ball (mechanical speaking) for every friendship evolution. Starting in gen 8 you only need 160 friendship to evolve, and the friend ball sets friendship to 200! Where the luxury ball only increases friendship gains. I would REALLY like friendship balls to be more available in game. Friendship evolutions are more of a punishment than anything 😅

I completely agree! If friend balls were a little rarer like couldn’t be bought in shops but like maybe you get like 10 or something as a reward for like a max raid they would feel super useful

Great video! Some of these pokeballs seem so,,, pointless, and there’s so much potential for pokeballs too! A shame really :,)

Thanks so much! Yeah, I think with all the issues with graphics and content in modern Pokémon games the issue of Poké Ball variety isn’t really talked about much but it’s something that I hope for every new generation and have been consistently disappointed by
