What I love about this channel is that an actual MECHANIC is doing a review, not a journalist/self proclaimed car guru etc. You jack up the car and actually show the audience what you are talking about. Excellent, keep up the good work 👌

The Supra needed a manual transmission from day one. It is a shame that the Supra doesn't have a Toyota 6 cylinder or the Lexus V8 engine in it.

Please google MKIV sales from the 90s. Maybe I'm dating myself, I remember Toyota stopped selling them because of poor sales. Toyota doesn't have to make an in house sports car because they profit more from suvs, sedans, trucks, etc. This was a low risk move by Toyota after getting burned with the MKIV and LFA sales. Maybe the MKVI is going to be in house and a hybrid. Only time will tell

Fuck it just get a corvette. I'm just gonna look out for a clean 08 and up c6, weighs around 3100lbs too, no need to worry about turbos etc..Maybe even try out the c7 with the 7 gear manual transmission. However i would much prefer the v8 in the is-f/gsf/rcf but whatever. OR EVEN the v8 in the E92 M3's that revs up to around 8400k. Thing screams!!

Another super honest review. Top notch quality. No question there is BMW reliability issues to be concerned about.
I loved the subtle tone/ pause every time he used the word "interesting". Lol. Makes a good drinking shot toast game and/or subtle jab. Clever, complex, plastic, dissimilar metals, very interesting.
Beautiful car, great review. I'm not sold on the BMW engine though. A 2JZ would be much more proper for it.
Appreciate your in depth, honest review. Some people will stop at nothing to bash BMW, but you criticize and praise where deserved. I love how notchy that shifter is, you can just hear it! Hoping to pick one of these up in the coming years. I will probably wait a year or two till JBL is no longer making the sound system(hopefully).
Didn't realize accelerating and decelerating isn't good for the drivetrain. I do it all the time in my Supra to just to hear the turbo/engine. Even in 8th gear lol. Car has so much torque it picks up in 8th too.
Great video
Great to hear you talk about GR Supra again plus other tid bits with the Manual, and also indicating where more Toyota logos hidden as never heard those extra ones before. Hope my plastics don’t break as you mention, at least engine will be reliable as Toyota tore it apart before signing off. Thanks for mentioning the battery drain which can happen if seat belt left plugged in etc (yes GR Supra / BMWs always in Standby!). I’m having Throttle hesitation issue at moment in my Auto 2020 GR Supra randomly, believe this is a BMW thing. I’m always scared not to release the parking brake as feels weird lol. Regards styling bits as you mention the large hood, PDR dents can be pain to remove from aluminium doors and hood. Yep trunk massive pain in the ass to open.

Yo, get your cars firmware updated, that fixes my issue with the throttle. I made them hook it up to the computer. I was forum hunting for an answer almost a year ago, I had it done and it’s been like a new car ever since. Don’t let the dealer tell you otherwise
Thank you brother
Excellent video as always.. Would it be possible if you can review the new Nissan Z. I would like to hear your take on it and how it compares with the Supra.
sir can you review also the BZ4X… thank you so much.
Im really starting to like this car. I spoke extensively with some folks at a Toyota Thrill ride about the Supra. It sounded like Toyota was very critical of this motor and made sure it would meet their demands. The rep told me they tweaked it a bit for their needs. I believe this motor is a very good one and would have no worries about the longevity. Also for those who complain about this not being 100% Toyota, please try to understand economics. Would you rather have NO SUPRA???
@shyro76
10 ай бұрын
People really love to glance over the economics when it comes to the Supra. Toyota, in the US, literally has not made an in-line 6 engine since the 2JZ itself. The amount of money they would have spent trying to make a new inline 6 from the ground up would’ve skyrocketed the price of the car drastically. Toyota fan boys can complain all they want about how the Supra is largely a rebadged BMW, and some of those complaints are fair game, but BMW taking the reigns is the reason you can buy an entry level Supra with an line 6 for around 55 grand
@JZ_Cars
10 ай бұрын
@@shyro76 My thoughts exactly! Then I’m sure they’ll say, but Nissan…. And for that they have to realize, Nissan took things in an existing parts bin and took what is an existing platform and tweaked it. I’m not saying it’s not great what they did, but they didn’t have to come up with an all new drivetrain and platform. It has underpinnings from the previous Z and the engine from the Infiniti Q50/60.

Nah, the 4th gen Supra is the best. The BMW Supra is ugly.
With my GR Yaris I actually have the opposite of what you complained about: I want iMT to be active at all times, but it is turned off by default and not configurable, so I have to remember to press the button every time I start the car and that is a petty peeve for me. I asked the dealer to update ECU to have it turned on by default and they ignored me.
the MKIV has always been a dream of mine, but i aint rich so i cant get that, however this one is in range for my salary, but in a couple years after i get the new hourse. hopefully find a slightly used, certified one in the future for a good price, hopefully a manual. thanks for the review my man and keep up the good work!
AMD, With the GR Corolla and GR Yaris Toyota has shown us they don't need ANYBODY's help to build a performance car. Having said that, it is always good to see another manual come to market. I am sure part of the reason you like the Supra is because you would not have to pay someone else a FORTUNE to repair it when something goes wrong. 😉😉😁

I really don't like how it looks but it seems like a sweet package. My issue with the look is mostly the way the headlights are designed, with the thin section on the bottom going towards the middle.
Loving my gr corolla but this thing is sweet
The battery sitting in the trunk is the same one used by the 2008 3 series BMW. In my car, the original battery lasted 13 years, thanks to the BMW battery management firmware.
I love the 1998 Supra. The new BMWrized Supra is nice. However, for a taller person like myself. Too small. I’m not a fan of blended cars either. Great review. Alhamdulillah!

Not releasing the manual in the first year is a marketing strategy. BMW did the same when they released the Z3. First year was the 4 cylinder version and people bought it for the looks and being a new model. then they added the 6 inline, and so on.
@thecarcarenut Awesome review on what I hope will be my future car purchase. BUT, your comment of "a recent even that happened" has me concerned. Care to elaborate on what it was? Keep up the awesome work! 🤙
Euro cars are brutal sometimes cause of the plastic parts - thats my only concern especially with the heat and pressure from the turbo. Bet it drives like butter though, the Germans have really nailed smooth handling with power
You are teaching me my brother
The B58 is one hell of a Powerplant 👊
You should try driving 5 series. I’m sure you will like the ride
This is not a long term car. Lease it and have fun but be prepared for BMW costs in the future.
Super!!!
I don't think anyone will regret buying a manual Supra. Solid engine (B58) that's even the preferred engine in the BMWs, these will always be desirable. The only shame was they introduced this car with the auto only at the beginning.

Thank you for the inside, no longer on my shopping list, Nissan Z, reserved mine.

If Toyota did it themselves, it would be over $120,000 from factory, before dealership markup. If you want an "all Toyota" vehicle, which is probably the Supra prototype, get the Lexus RC F Track Edition. You'll spend more on a worse platform in comparison to the Supra.

I was extremely excited for the release of the Supra when it was announced. Even when they said they were partnering with BMW. I figured if there’s anyone to get an inline 6 from BMW is the best bet currently. After they announced that it was auto only initially I was extremely disappointed. Completely turned away from the car and ended up going for a 6mt Tacoma instead to get into off-roading. Of course the GR Corolla was also not out yet either when I got my truck. I really want a manual Supra or the GR Corolla. I unfortunately now need to wait until I pay down the Tacoma more before I can get rid of it

Kind of surprised it doesn’t have a flat bottom steering wheel considering it’s sportiness and it’s so low to the ground
Great review! Would you own one manual Supra like this?
I wonder what occurs within the drivetrain that is negatively impacted when suddenly letting off the throttle.
So German, it goosesteps. But that styling is really sweet.

I have a friend that I work with that bought one of these last year and the Toyota dealership told him to have it serviced at a BMW dealership. After watching this video I never fully understand that.
This isn't a knock to BMW specifically, as all car manufacturers have gone this way, but these engines are just so damn messy now with vacuum lines galore. It's to the point where even though I can work on them, I don't want to work on them. I am glad I was able to grab my 90s/00s era project car. Simpler and more importantly, fun to work on.
