The game was actually created by a group of high school friends that founded their indie game studio. So Brutalmoose saying he and his friends would make something like this is actually correct. That also explains the young people on the wanted posters since they are the developers.

I honestly thought from watching clips of this game that it was just another popular meme based off how bad and poorly made it is. But no. It's one big inside joke by the devs made for anyone fortunate enough to view it. There's so many telltale signs that this game is not taking itself seriously at all. I'm honestly happy for the devs because 20 years after it was released and viewed as a failure, thousands of people can watch it on modern KZread and laugh at it, just as they always wanted them to.

given the time period, and the system they were developing the game for, the 3d transitions and sequences were actually pretty good. the option to get back on the train and leave is so meta and ahead of it's time. the humor is way ahead of it's time. If you were to tell me someone made this game in 2018 to make fun of games today, I would believe it.

The morality of this game remains unexplored. In one timeline, you murder a single child but leave the rest of the inhabitants and town untouched. In another timeline, you have a go at the town, slaying person after person in a mad rage, a blind unfocused unnecessary rampage all based off a misunderstanding and having gotten off at the wrong stop. But you do gain a friend at the end. One can argue that the people slain were bad men, but aren't you? And did you not devastate that towns population? Did you improve the town by killing those thugs? Which option is the most moral? One innocent child slain, or a town full of slain men... make your choice Shane.

Since the game is almost 100% comedy, if you find it funny either because the comdey does or does not work as intended, it's still funny because of that comedy. Personally I think the jokes land the way they are supposed to, the joke being the very lameness and amateurishness of the whole product. It's no accident "give me a drink bartender" is a meme now.

About 90% of the absurdist humour, weird moments and random characters are pisstakes pulled straight out of 50s and 60s western films like Shane and the dollars trilogy

I legit laughed at that stopwatch bit for the intended joke and not just how badly animated it is. The over-the-top melodramatic music is a straight riff on For A Few Dollars More and I felt it landed.

I love this game. Something about it is so perfect. "Give me a drink, bartender" is one of my favourite all-time media quotes.

Its so surreal to watch older brutalmoose videos now, they're so wildly different from his current content that they almost seem like different people.

I think I finally figured out what "My name's not Shane" refers to. It's a reference to the 1953 film Shane, in which the closing scene is the eponymous main character riding off into the sunset while a little boy cries out, "Come back, Shane!" Presumably, the kid in the game is supposed to be the one in the movie Shane.

1. Animation is pretty good. 2. Many choices. 3. Sometimes music is ok. 4. Pretty funny game. 5. Nice idea. *so this game is ok*

My video game design teacher in highschool once showed us two bad paintings. One was the Breads Meow picture and the other was an early Van Gogh. She said "both of these are BAD, but one is painted by a master of his craft and the other is breads meow. And I'm going to assume you enjoy breads meow. As artists, you're going to make bad art and that's OK. But your art should never be boring, because bad art still creates emotion, boring art doesnt" I hope who ever made this game knows that they did not make boring art. Because this created so many emotions, most of them being me laughing and yelling "what the phuck"

I wanna see this game remade with modern graphics. I still don't know why.

So if I've got this right, the main character is "Just a Drifter" who got off at the wrong stop on a train while trying to meet his sister at Dodge Gulch. Evil Eb's Littlest Brother happens to be there and shoots at him, thinking he's someone named Billy Bob (who is maybe the gang's enemy) and ends up dying, causing the rest of the gang to come after Drifter. It's only when Evil Eb himself shows up that he realizes that Drifter is not the aforementioned Billy Bob. Then he's cool with Drifter even though he killed the rest of his gang (maybe because it was out of self defense?) and they hang out. I vote that the sequel be about Drifter's sister in Dodge Gulch, titled "The Town with No Name 2: The Town with an Actual Name".
