I learned a lot as a young man at the national tower, went up twice. several people were pointing out the key parts you could see from there (which was everything). Great perspective. Funny, when I worked on the field for YCC I never heard a ranger or guide complain about it.......until they needed some land for their new visitors center. Then suddenly it was an item.

Tim, I am impressed by your awesome demonstration of fitness! If I understand correctly you are soon to be 60 years old. I am 68 and it took me three to five times as long to make it to the top of that tower! The battlefield likely provides you with many opportunities to maintain your fitness. Keep it up! I always enjoy your videos.

Tim was unaware of this tower. At the battlefield and be commercialized. Remember the National Tower. Thanks for sharing this information 💯👍👊

Tim doesn't just tiptoe through life, he attacks it. Unbelievable grace and athleticism to get to the top of the tower so quickly. Now, off to Devil's Den for a workout on the Run-Up Rock!

Very interesting post. I had never heard of the first tower on Cemetery Hill - that was very interesting. I remember the tower on Big Round Top. Great video - thank you.

I was a Union participant at the Gettysburg reenactment when they took the National Tower down and a witness to its destruction. It was probably the most hotly anticipated Civil War related event that year.

Oh my, I had no idea the towers were from 1895! I go up them quite often, and they shake if there’s people on top and they shake if there’s a big wind. I might not go up so often anymore!

A couple years back, I thought it a good idea to run up the Culp's Hill tower 2 stairs at a time. My quads were burning when I reached the top!😅

I was going to make a comment about the close up of the horse's rear, but then the Rocky theme came on and I forgot LOL I haven't gone to the top of the Culp's Hill tower, #1 because I am not a fan of heights, and #2 I AM a fan of breathing LOL

The Longstreet tower was a little too close to the Eisenhower farm for the Secret Service’ tastes; they kind of freaked out about it while Ike was there. A vast overlook of the farm and a not to difficult sniper shot.

I wondered why the Oak Hill tower was so small compared to the others. I also like climbing the towers like Tim does, but in mid July those are tough. I climbed the National Tower back in 1998 or 1989. It darn near killed me. 🤣

If there were documented locations where hot air ballons were used during battle, I thought long ago that a tower would be justified. But I never enjoyed the ones Ive been on. To me a fight anywhere on any day was about what was seen on foot or horse back, high ground or low.

1895, well those towers are now historic, I think they should be let up. I like the gradual restoration of the battlefield to how it was back in the days of the battle.

I'm surprised they put up such a garish metal tower, instead of something classical like the obelisk, on The Battlefield Of San Jacinto, where Santa Anna was defeated.
