    The RB20 is just another absolute work of art by Newey. It might not even be a work of art by my normal standards - like a 90s CART car or many eras of early F1, but looking at the complete control of the air by Adrian is why I call it a work of art. It's stunning to see how 1 man is so far ahead of the rest when it comes to "seeing" air.

    Well, he is the only 1 with more than 30 years of experience in the ground effect regulation and the budget cap prevents other teams to do mayor improvements when it comes to in season development. Basically this regulations where put in place to benefit only 1 team, the team that threatened the FIA to removed both of their teams from F1 if they didn't stop Merc domination.

    @@damianrodriguez5233 they had a superior car during the Merc dominance as far as tire wear and grip were concerned. I'm not even a RB fan, but it was clear for most of those years that the RB cars did WAY better on tires than the Mercs. But when you have a 50-100hp advantage, and 70% of the tracks are power tracks, Merc made the right choice going all in on that engine. Toto was quoted as saying they detuned it for years to avoid being BOP'd. They had to hide how much power in hand they had and power can easily make up for aero problems. Though the W11 was probably the best car they built. And we're only 2 years into RB domination, since the first year was a split. There's 5 more to go before we get to Merc levels of dominance. They won't last that long.

    Even if I already knew many of the secrets, I can't get enough information. Love the work, love the passion and just comment for keep the channel growing ❤ One (longer) question: What is your opinion on the RB20? I don't think it is a beautiful car but I also think it is the most impressive/scary thing I've seen since the MP4-18. I know that car never drove in a race. But man... as a Schumi Fan I did shit my pants when I saw that beast in testing. Do you think the RB20 is again a car "ahead of its time" and could it be that fast how a few engineers said? I heard rumors that the car could be up to a second faster per lap than the rest and I highly doubt that this could be the case. Even as a Max Fan I don't want a championship like last year. Best regards from Germany and all the best. Keep pushing!

    Love the content as always! The comparison pictures you manage to find are really insightful. I am curious about how you come up with you analysis of the cars. It seems to me like you don't necessarily have a background in aerodynamics or engineering in general, so I would be cautious about making statements about the flows going on. F1 cars are complex, and it's not always obvious what effect something has without windtunnel or CFD data, or even photos of flowvis paint. The only reason I say this is because the stuff you're saying doesn't really line up with the opinions of qualified aerodynamicists elsewhere on youtube, such as Kyle Engineers, Scarbs on Peter Windsor's channel, or Dr Obbs on the Cameron F1 channel. I'm not trying to be negative; I love your content and I wish you every success (I am a subscriber and regular viewer), I would just be careful about saying stuff you're not certain about or qualified for, because you could mislead a lot of people.

    Yeah I get it completely my friend. I watch Scarbs and Kyle and other experts before making these videos. While all of is technically unknown due to not seeing the actually airflow like the teams due we can give it a good guess. I research a lot of the topic and as I said watch the experts and try putting it in an easier way. Recently just watched something on Dr Obbs on how the suspension causes more upflow then we thought as to why the Red Bull is a even more genius design. I won’t say something I clearly don’t know hence why I waited throughly for testing to be over to make statements on the RB20

    @@F1Unchained Fair enough, perhaps it's just the way you word it. I have a little experience with aerodynamics (I'm a mechanical engineer), and I've spent quite a lot of time around aero engineers. The way some things are worded just don't ring quite true. Saying stuff like "cleaner airflow to the back of the car to help with tyre wear" is something I don't think anyone else has said. Tyre wear is a complex combination of factors, and clean air to the coke bottle area might help with that indirectly, but it seems like a bit of a leap to state that as fact.

    Really cool stuff going on and it’s something that I’ve always enjoyed about F1. Everyone has their own solutions and none of it is a “bolt on” solution. It’s all a concept of design which I find so fascinating. I think this year is going to be incredibly exciting for 2nd and 3rd place as well as the mid-field. I think it’s definitely closer, but as long as Alien Newey is designing cars that are dependent on good aero nobody else stands a chance.

    Those openings in the sides of the bazookas may be to induce vorticies to improve air flow over the B WIng. I can't imagine the air exiting from those holes being as fast or clean as the air over the side covers. Would love to take a peek under those covers. Maybe some other type of cooling system in there as well. Love the tech!

    You said "and suspension doesn't provide a huge performance gain aerodynamically." And I think that's one side of the the equation. My understanding, and I am just a fan not an expert or a tuner in any right, is an improperly tuned or narrow windowed suspension can result in huge aerodynamic losses. So this to say suspension can either be a slight positive contributor to aero performance, neutral, or a significant limiting factor. This conclusion is just from things I've gathered in the past, especially with respect to some of the fundamentals flaws of the W13/W14. I think that's where you were going, but just wanted to engage the community a little on this. Thoughts???

    To do what Merc is doing with the suspension, the teams would have to create a section of reinforced chassis to take that load instead of the one fixed point most teams are using. That is why we likely won't see any copies of that this year.

  • @theelf152

    Have a look at Peter Windsors channel and Craig Scarboroughs breakdown of the chassis issues Mercedes had over the last few seasons quite surprising!. Whilst I appreciate aerodynamic innovations sometimes teams lose their way through fundamental chassis balancing issues and mechanical & suspension geometry positioning. I don't really care the amount of impact having two different types of upper control arms have on aerodynamics I'm far more happy that Mercedes have greater flexibility at difference circuits with anti dive and handling characteristics for eg!. I'm still really impressed with that Ferrari and I'd have small wager on some circuits that it will upset RB. That thing looked very impressive both on 1 lap pace as well as consistency on long runs. Of course no-one knows each teams programs and how much each were sandbagging was going on but I'm really hoping Leclerc takes a few wins this year.

    @jussayinmipeece1069

    i have been saying that ever since Qatar and the FIA saying they would change the rules for driver cooling. The idea of the F duct was simple; stall the rear wing at high straight line speeds and dump air over it at low speed to make them more effective in corners. Those cannons will draw hot air up and over the rear wing at high speeds hot air is thinner and therefore provides less effect on the wing. As the speed bleeds of around corners there is likely a sort of butterfly valve inside that redirects the air allowing cooler air over the wing and the hot air towards the defuser and that would be perfectly legal since the rules only forbid EXTERNAL movable aerodynamic surfaces and says nothing about things like valves internally. Also if you take a real good look at the side just in front of the rear suspension you will see a vertical outlet that's dumping air right into that "coke bottle" So depending on the speed that will either control boundary layer air or provide a vortices control for the air spilling out from the floor preventing it from interfering with the air going toward the defuser and beam wing. And all this is because you are allowed more leeway to have inlets and outlets to cool the driver.@@F1Unchained

    Aston Martin makes it's own front suspension. They prefer to take the rear suspension from Mercedes because the gearbox is provided by Mercedes and the rear geometry depends a lot on the gearbox shape too. This is also a reason why Williams has stuck to the old rear suspension, because they are using the old gearbox setup too. As far as I know, McLaren and Sauber are the only customer teams that make their own rear suspension. Sauber went even further by making their own gearbox casing so they can have their own rear geometry.

This is not the Mercedes zero-pod design, the inlet is more reminiscent of the 2023 Ferrari S duct, the shoulders were a design feature of the W14 but a little bit different. Furthermore, the rumored zero-sidepod design for the RB20 would need a total rearrangement in the inner sidepods. It looks like RB is look for a different solution but credit to the Redbull aerodynamics team for that.

    F1 UNCHAINED , thank you !! You're not only the best 🇺🇸 F1 content maker . But you are the only honest one that I've heard admit your launch car speculations were wrong on something. Everyone else has follow reason to as why their initial diagnosis of the cars was off , not wrong. WHAT i appreciate the most though, is i still havent figured out who your favorite driver or team is. Thats cause you put out honest unbiased information! Too bad our 🇺🇸 evening news channels cant do that ! *Careful I dont want to offend you, if youre leftist dont scroll down anymore ! They all seem too concerned with being PC or offending someones delicate and usually delusional feelings today ! WOKEism is destroying America faster then M.V. wrap up the 2023 title !!! I hate to say it but the network SKYSPORTS is the WOKEest of them all IMO !!! Just look at how it's commentated . Damon Hill a F1 WDC asking a woman driver who's best result was a 8th place finish racing in the Wseries what F1 drivers are doing on track is pathetic and demoralizing to him IMO !! Let me get this straight, I've got nothing against woman in motorsports and would love to see it. But not just for the sake of having a woman racing. Every driver should be in that seat based on merit ! 👋Lance you're out! Id be willing to bet Jamie Chadwick wiuld be faster and get better results than Stroll in that AMR ! Or even Lia Block with her limited open wheel experience could probably destroy Lance on track. Most certainly if given the time his daddy has bought him to be in F1 she would !! Shame her father isnt there to support her with her racing career. His relationship with Audi wouldnt hurt thats for sure . Thats if Audi truly is coming to F1 now ???

    so why is it genius? until it's proven? genius failure is not a term. Genius is a retrospective term. You have stated many of the ideas "are genius", when only a percentage of these "will be genius". Overall, I find your commentary excessive and ill advised - and I have unsubscribed @@F1Unchained

    You asked so I will answer. And your personal qualifications as an automotive, F1 car, technical evaluator are exactly what? If you have any why not state them. If this is just a look what I saw video or compiled by looking at what other formally trained experts observed and reported is a summary and you have no formal training that's cool too. Every fan wants to share their belief and opinion, because it's fun. Kyle Engineering for example states up front states his qualifications in under 15 seconds. Engineer with a PhD in aerodynamic design and ..................................................he worked for Mercedes F1 for several years as an aerodynamicist when Lewis and Nico were teammates I believe. Cheers
