    Good, simple video. Not high production costs, but high value to help the audience consider better ways to do their thing. Good job!

    This is a great topic and video, thanks. Our cats love to play on our stacks and I am sure that is why the fall over and it has nothing to do with the fact we are not good at stacking 🙂

    I recently went to piling my wood, between time spent stacking and leaning stacks falling over. I do still pile it on pallets, and I keep my piles at 8’ wide, and about 6’ high, It’s my first year doing this time will tell on how it works.

    I think in our climate you have to cover. Others may vary. If you like to build holzhausen be sure to stack the inside higher to make a natural slope and you could have an optional small vent in the middle of the cover to help condensation evaporate out. Also have to worry about pest control (e.g. field mice, carpenter ants, etc.) but never spray chemicals on your wood especially for wood that's used for inside burning.

    Great points. I tried a Holzhausen once. Seemed more trouble than it was worth. At least to me.

    Great idea! I used log runners under pallets for the long 50 foot pile in the beginning of the video. Definitely helps with air flow, rotting, freezes, etc.

    I tried open stacking knotted red elm, I have pushed the lean and picked up the fallen pile quite a bit over the last two years, to the point I cannot wait to see that wood burn this winter, LoL!

    Dave is right. A little smile goes a long way. 🤣🤣. I stack my wood in my garage and I put it to the ceiling. 8 feet. And jam top pieces of wood in at the top tight to the ceiling. Some times using a hammer to pound them in. When wood burning time comes. I normally have a 4 to 6 inch gap down from the ceiling. So it settles for sure and it shrinks from drying. I’m going to try a different method to keep split wood outside. Pallets are used to make a bin. Then the split wood is thrown in loose. A you tube channel wood fella is doing that now. He use to stack every thing. Now he’s using bin and loose pile method. Is it better. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Is it faster. I would say yes. Does it dry good. Who knows. Your thoughts.

    Interesting idea. I know a fella in CT that does that. He has a giant pallet bin and has a tarp on a rope to top cover it. My opinion is that it would definitely be faster to not stack. It would however take up more space, and in my opinion wouldn’t dry as well. The sun and wind won’t hit the middle of the pile too well.

    @@BuildALotAcres Depends on how big the pile is. As to how it gets to the middle. This fella puts two pallets down. But leaves a space in the middle. 3 feet or so, Then puts a pallet on top of the space. Allows more room to move air through the middle at the bottom of the pile.

    How long that wood been seasoning? And does firewood that is seasoning to log does it rot ?

  • @BuildALotAcres

    @BuildALotAcres

    Жыл бұрын

    This stack is around 2.5 years old I think. Firewood can rot if left too long for sure. Every species of wood has a different seasoning time to get to below 20%. Oak is one of the longest at around 3 full years. Different factors can speed up or slow down that amount of time. Amount of sun, location, amount of wind, what it's stacked on, amount of precipitation throughout the year, etc.
