Just a side note: I could have gone into way more detail on the diference in drivers, price, weight, ex.. All of which play into why one series is better than another. Example: the JBL prx cabinets are using lower end transducers and drivers vs The JBL srx which are using the same driver technology found in their high end touring systems. Makes a huge difference in sound and how well the speakers can take advantage of the amplifier power available to them.Also this video was not meant to cover tour grade powered speakers: Such as RCF TT series, JBL VRX, or JBL Vertec. As these lines are very expensive and not really mobile DJ realm.

+Elisha Soussan well I stated that this list consisted of speakers I have heard and seen be popular in my area. I know yorkville is a killer company and I did demo them once about 3 yesrs ago. But I havent actually hesrd them out at gigs and no one in my area uses them. So for me to give an honest opinion on them... I really cant unfortunately. Same goes for rcf, turbosound, fbt and many other really good vrands out there.

HI,I want to ask which voice is better, QSCK.2, BOSE F1, JBL PRX, RCF NX.

EVs are the Real Deal very powerful with a clean crisp sound. I recommend EVs to anyone that is wanting to buy them.

My favorite powered mobile DJ speakers are the Bose F1s, you can fit both the 2 subs and 2 tops in the trunk of even a compact sedan along with the DJ booth, cables, a DJ console, and some DMX lights. You can use them in large venues to the point where you have to use line array systems. Also, I prefer the Bose sound over JBL although I like the sound of both of them. I would definitely bite the bullet on Bose F1s if I were to be a mobile DJ. I’ve heard Bose PA systems in person and they sound very smooth and crystal clear.

Great video 👍 I heard your comments on the column array at the end, different type of speaker, looks great for weddings! I'm from the UK and went for the Turbosound Ip3000. They are powerful and sound great.

I use to use EV alot when starting out. Sold them all when I personally scaled and now default is JBL STX. We use bigger array's such as Meyersound, db audiotechnik and CODA Audio for bigger shows. However I'm saving up to get VRX mini arrays!

I run Yorkville PS12P with two yorkville 15” subs. Good powered speaker in Canada.

Great vid and info. I will disagree on the QSC line. Having parties of 500+ using two KW 181s and two K12s I had more than enough space with the sound. Excellent DJM 900 Nexus mixer and nice cables help. I consider them pro line for sure. Not saying they're the best, and they're pricey, but they are the best for me. I've been spinning for 30+ years too. Check out the new QSC KS118 new subs. Thanks and keep spinnin' and making vids.

Hi Rick, great video again! Owning both RCF (Evox) and EV, I can share with you that the high/mid sound output of the Evox series is truly amazing. One downside for me: Although the system is featuring a subwoofer, it feels more like a mid-bass unit which can hit hard, but it lacks in the deep end. Combining the Evox system with one or two big subs, and you have system that has huge out capability. I live in Europe, in the Netherlands where both EV and JBL a very popular too. Another popular EU brand is HK. Keep up the good work for the DJ community!

Hello, pauluz, do you have fase issues when adding subs to the evox system?

The 2-in-1 array-type systems in recent years have really blown my socks off.

i have two turbosound ix12 with a bass boss dual 18 powered sub woofer and i use them for bigger gigs and have no problems as my first setup i had two rockville powergig 12s with no sub woofer my new setup puts the old one to shame i highly recommend turbo sound powered speakers

MY opinions:QSC=very nice sound,deep bass...very good for weddings,a little bit too pricy JBL-lighweight and good for big rooms,very natural sound,big thumping bass..good for mobile DJs EV-clean and loud,lots of models,good for instalations and they look very good FBT-very good sound,natural and clean,lightweight and everything they has is amazing but they are too expensive(normaly worth the price) RCF-about the same as FBT but they has some cheaper models and they sound different...RCF speakers are good for bands and outfoor events TURBOSOUND-very loud and ok sounding speakers for affordable price but maybe too heavy and subwoofers are not really that good but tops are amazing ALTO-good speakers for the price you can build awesome budget system YAMAHA-very loud and goof sounding but they are very loosing in sound from big distances and outdoors....that are just my opinions about different speaker brands that i somehow find out during the fifferent tests events and videos...sorry for my bad english im only 15 years old and im not from a country where is english speaken

@Appoddigare well im 16 now...i love speakers(they are my passion)and i go to a lot of gigs(dj-s,concerts,smaller events...)...i also work(summer kind of job-just for fun,not really for much money)at a sound company that has a lot of different speaker models (electro voice, yamaha, turbosound etc) and i also have my own sets of alto speakers that im very happy with and sometimes i do dj and sound events for up to 200 people. Im not that much about dj im more about sound and thats why i have some experiences,but all those were just my opinions about different speakers and what i think of them

Glad to hear you stuck with the JBL. Great speakers. With today's technology, almost ANY of the name brand speakers are loud enough to do medium sized gigs, so I worry about sound quality vs watts (or even SPL). It's rare that we ever run at max power.

Gents, I’m relatively new at DJing, but I been a sound system enthusiast for 40years. I currently run 2 QSC K-subs (2 12” drivers in each cabinet) with 2 EV ZLX15 tops. In general it works, however it lacks to impress me. I don’t ding the bass gets to the dance floor, and I find the highs a bit harsh in the midrange and dull in the high clarity. It will be time to step up in both tops and subs. I have 4 Cerwin Vega AT-12 home stereo speakers my dad purchased in 1988 that still play great. I would like to also consider the new line of CV active pro audio speakers. I have always been partial to JBL in Mobil, Home and pro audio. It is a tricky choice to make when buying speakers today. Thanks for the reviews, it helps greatly. One think I can give the older Ksubs I have, they are very well built and reliable. Casters, good amps, robust construction. I wish they delivered more bass fwd.

DJ Rick Web Just my two cents (one year later from the original video post) i agree with you on the rankings (even here in Canada) i shopped for my speakers in 2016 and hesitated between the JBL and the QSC finaly deciding on the QSC KW serie due to their response with my music of choice (house and techno). I also tested the FBT as a friend of mine owns some and they're pretty good too. The EV and YORKVILLE ones did sound as powerfull but lacked in detail and transparency and i didn't like them as much as the others i've tested. I do dj, music production and mixdown / mastering for a living for years now so the views i express while certainly well informed apply mostly to the kind of music i play and produce (house and techno) and it might differ from someone playing other genres (pop or country music for example). I realy appreciate your videos and i'm happy to see that your channel grow. Keep it up!! ;)

Nice video, three popular brands I can think ok off the top of my mind here in the states... I'm using the fairly new Peavey DM115 Mains and have had pretty good luck with them. I run them with a Mackie Thump 18s that I love the sound it produces. So with those 2 brands down could you guess that the third I'd throw out would be Yamaha. Have read great reviews on them and respect the brand. I went with the Peavey DM Series after much reading and research and was able to get a steal of a deal on them brand new as they wanted to move them after a less than anticipated response to the release date kept seeming to get knocked back and a lack of push from Peavey after the release.

I have just purchased Mackie a pair of DRM 215s. I totally recommend you guys. I am also using their studio monitors (HR824) and they are flat and clear. It is perfect for music production.

@@fordmondeo3320 Yes, I compared EV, JBL, Bose and QSC. I can say that all of them sounded amazing however, Mackie sounded more flat to me, as well as QSC speakers. The reason that I have chosen Mackie is because it's price-performance. They were on Labor Day sale and I had a good deal. Besides that I have been using Mackie studio monitors that never made any problem for more that ten years. I trust the brand. If you are look for flat sound, you can also go for QSC speakers but you will definitely need a sub. I think they produce max 12'. If you have more questions, let me know.

Amen Once Again, good insight JBL gets a bad rep sometimes due to brand addicts. I only buy what works for my events, I'm not worried about anybody else concert certified recommendations. Thanks for keeping it real!!!

Of all the PA that I've heard the QSC E215s with the E118SWs sounded the best. Obviously passive PA isn't ideal for a mobile DJ, but in terms of sound quality, that setup is hard to beat.

Dj ARI-G I live and Dj in Italy.The MACHIE THUMP PA 1000 watts speakers are not to be left out too, it's popular in Italy with musicians and DJs.

I like how much you love JBL. I made my living with JBL Altec Peavey EV when they were made in America. If you want to really want compare apples to oranges: 3000Watts Digital Peak Power = 200/300 True sine wave RMS WATTS compared to how a Class A/B Amplifiers perform on the job.

what is the sound difference between these speakers ? that would be nice to know

For my standard 2-300 person setup I run 2 QSC KW181 subs with 2 K12 Tops.. I agree with you when it comes to their misleading marketing strategy, but I have to say that I would definitely put these two models in the Pro Line category. The sound they are capable of producing is of exceptional quality and I have yet to have an event that required me to turn them more than 60% up. Not discounting the SRX line, I have heard great things, although I have never heard them in person.

I run the same thing and have done parties that size and even larger with no problems. Many of these brands have the speaker you need. A lot is personal preference and the sound it produces.

Nice review keep it up and I herd the fbt dj 15a it's a beast 400watts rms it sounds and hits harder then any 15inch I've heard yet I was blown away to bad not a lot of places don't demo or carry rcf or fbt am in NYC Brooklyn b&h photo shop has them available not sure if they demo I've herd them n the Bronx n a local store hey get the dual 18 jbl man you'll be set ✌🏻

My Brother DJ Rick Web. Great video and great advice. I am looking at purchasing one of two types of powered speakers, the JBL PRX series and the QSC k series but leaning more torwards the JBL's. I am in the Wheeling Wv. area and most Pro DJ's around here are using the QSC or Mackie. I like to stand alone and be different which is another reason why I am leaning torwards the JBL's. I know, I might sound like a cheap DJ or non-professional DJ to some other DJs but I am currently using 2 Bose L1 series and I absolutely love them, I have neverhad any problems with them performing. They always deliver a crisp clean sound, They are light weight and very easy & quick to setup. I have used them for local swimming pool parties, weddings, proms and graduation parties and I have got a lot of positive feedback from every gig. Though I never had an oppurtunity to do a wedding of 250+. I think that being said you might want to consider them as Pro intermmediate level. The only reason I am buying new speakers is because in case I do get a wedding of 250+ wedding, I will enough sound coverage without a doubt and also to offer to my customers a $200 ceremony package using the Bose L1 serious. What do you think?

+James Dietrich first off whats up I have gone to wheeling for a few weddings now. There is nothing wrong with the L1s I just think for the money you can get way better. That said they do there job of sound dispersing very well amd are good for weddings up to 175 in my opnion. If no one is using JBL I would look into it. Better sound quality then mackie. About equal to qsc but jbl is a little cheaper. You will really like jbl when you get there subs. They hit way lower then qsc. If you want hit me up I work for a JBL dealer can get you some cheap prices.

I agree anymore than 175 people I need JBL's. I appreciate the offer and will definitly hit you up when I have the money to get the JBL's unless they can work out somekind of payment plan, also when you get back to the Buckeye State!!!!! LOL Ealrier this year another DJ and I did a wedding and we had Theo's Catering there and I had talked to a few of the staff that remembered you. They spoke very highly of you and miss you. I told them that I watch all your videos. You and I will have to meet in person sometime since we don't live that far away from each other.

My two cents just from experience - Sound wise - Highs and Mids are better handled by smaller speakers 8inch- 10inch. The bose l1 compact has small approx 2- inch driver speakers and an 8inch bass speaker so good to get the higher fidelity range. The 15inch speaker size is an ideal sub for that bottom end punch and the 18inches are for that very low boom so not that needed in most cases. I now use 2 x 8inch speaker ( for mids and highs ) tops on poles 1 x 15inch sub ( for punchy bass for dance floor) and and a bose l1 compact for ceremony and monitor speaker/ to fill in the sound gaps for reception. I think you need a range of different sized quality speakers to produce a great sound. Just from my experience popularity doesn't necessarily mean better. I bought the Bose L1 model 1 also however would not really recommend them for the dancefloor/DJ. DJ wise - you need portable ,( can you lift the thing/wheels) no more than 30-40 kg durable, aesthetic/cable tidy, balance sound - to cover situations like ceremony and and dancing. Loud ain't everything so RMS is probably over stated.

What’s the best sounding set up or brand also which has the best hitting subs? I have ev and eon and I like how ev has a more compact tighter bass.. plus the box itself is not so huge...qsc I wasn’t impressed with the k 1 series interested in the k2..for sure

OK Rick, after studying this video as well as my homework, I'm considering this setup: 2 -JBL SRX 815P & 1- SRX 828P (Dual 18s). To cover 150-200 ppl small venue (without sub) the 815s ( so I'll have enough bass to cover). For 300 - 500 ppl I bring the 828 sub. Which I hope can cover my bass needs when positioned correctly. When traveling alone, I can fit in my SUV (Durango) with my Prime 4 controller & Dbx driverack PA2. I'm curious as to what do you think. Thx in advance for your reply. PS. I'm also considering lighting and a trailer. But that's way later.

Yorkville tops and QSC Subs absolutely love the sound and the portability. Run my QSC ks112 in a cardioid pattern. 1 sub faces front 1 sub faces rear with a small delay. Amazing sound. This video is a little old and QSC now has a 3600 Watt peak KS 118 that I hear rattles every bone in your body. But it's definitely not very portable

Cerwin Vega is really good too. It’s not really marketed but its reputation still lives on. The CVE series is good and the CVX series is even better. I’ve been in a lot of clubs that use Cerwin Vega speakers but most people don’t care to use them since they’re considered more of an old school brand

I would like to hear the new Cerwin Vega line. I have 6 of their home stereo speakers from the 70s and 80s I really like them they held up well to.

Good video, I've had really good luck with the JBL Eons 515xt and now the EV ZLX. I know the low end, but they are tuned right and I use good sound quality music. I've been DJing at events and get told how great it sounds. By the the JBL 515XT is better than the JBL EONS 615.

For me the XTs are still the best sounding speakers out there. Definitely as good as the prx815s.

I choose the ETX 12p over the JBL due to my personal preferences and I thought the EV’s had a little more clarity at higher volume. But it’s all about personal preference and what you’re using them for

Sam Santandera I agree I spent a hour deciding which speakers to get. EV or JBL, after hearing a clearer sound for several songs I went EV etx line, I got 6 mains 12in. And 2 18in. Subs .i've DJed outdoor events and bands played live with my set up for 600 to 900 people , sounded great, I think I was pushing them really hard but 4 to 5 years later and tons of compliments on how great it sounds from wedding's, partys and running sound for bands with them. I think I picked a great brand. My opinion tho

You should really invest in The Yorkville PS15P, it's is by far by a long shot the most powerful of the speakers you mentioned I've used them in EVENTS of 600- 800 people and these speakers kick hard with never hitting the limiter while playing hip-hop music. The 4400 watts of peak power really give you alot of headroom, it's active 1400 watts

It's not too common around me but I have heard a few Dj's say they like them. I didnt do any research on them at all. When I first started out I had the Mackie line speakers and there were tough but had a problem over heating. Then they came out with a line that fixed that and they were pretty good speakers. Definitely intermediate level though.

Turbsound sounds amazing RCF sounds even better

Bose is a league of its own when it comes to portable PA speakers. They sound better than RCF and QSC, a breeze to setup, and they are also lightweight. F1s for medium and large venues, L1 compacts for small venues, and S1 pros for wedding ceremonies or tiny ass venues.

RCF smoke everything else other than Danley, Function One, Void, etc. Unbelievably clean and clear sounding. Like a HiFi kind of sound. QSC seem to be the gold standard but imo they have a really, really harsh high end to me. After about an hour at a rave my ears are tired from that. My .02

What good powered speaker for acoustic sounds?

As many have mentionned, Yamaha and Yorkville should be in there, or rename the video The top DJ speakers I've used lol. The JBL PRX are good boxes, but I've always found them a little too forward in the midrange overall. Good for getting vocals out there I guess, but I prefer a smoother ear pleasing sound. Yamaha DXR15s or DSR115s Or Yorkville Parasource 12s or 15s are excellent in that regard. RCF also has some amzing sounding products other than Evox. Good videos, keep it up.

The Yamaha data look great but for less money you can get the alto 315s with a higher spl and wattage..... The only thing Yamaha have is they name drop alto

Watching this here in 2019 as I'm thinking about which speakers I will pick. Had my heart set one way for quite a while, but after lots of thought I decided I'd like the flexibility to be able to put speakers on poles for different positioning options. No Tektons, maybe someday because they just look so damn cool... Disappointed I can't seem to find a "top" that will mount up on a pole that's a 3-way design though. If you know of one I'm missing let me know, but it seems like they stop putting pole mounts in them in the 3-ways. Think I'm going to have to check out the Yamahogs though, those new DZR15's look like what I'm after to start with. Here's the reason I'm picking those over the JBL's, and it's one thing you didn't mention here in your video. How low it's rated to go bass wise. Looking at the Yamahas, they are rated 10dBs down at 34hz, just a couple DB's lower than the JBLs. But every DB counts when you're starting off without a sub. I wish manufacturers would list the 3db down frequency though, at 10db down you're really not hearing that frequency much anyways. I also like how the horn can be rotated depending on which way you orient the cabinet. And it comes in at a hundred less for a pair, that is assuming I can get my hands on a pair. Still, a tough choice, they are pretty comparable otherwise. Subwoofer I had picked out I scratched off the list too. For now at least, maybe down the line. Actually powering and putting a 24" sub into a box big enough to go as low as I'd planned (20hz) is a daunting task and not really conducive to a mobile DJ. The box would be 20 cubic feet and roughly 300lbs. To fully power it I'd need a 240volt amp that pushes a clean 5000 watts down under 20hz, there is only one MFG I found that can do that and boy, you're going to pay. How many places are even going to have 240 volt power available? Decided to go a different route. Check out JTR speakers sometime, I know them well from the Home Audio world, and they have a Pro Line of speakers and subs. I like the Captivator 218 Pro. What I really like about is is the 3db down at 27hz and 136 db spl. That's pretty much a full octave lower than anything I see by JBL, Yamaha, QSC or any other manufacturer I've come across yet. It has built-in casters and handles, way easier than lugging around what amounts to a refrigerator but way heavier. And I like the fact its hand built here in the US with US parts by a guy named Jeff. That's pretty cool to me, somewhere a Bald Eagle just screamed!

I really am not sure based on the output needs of the sound system. A good 12inch top is always a great buy

am confused about QSC KW QSC K.2 , RCF , Yamaha DZR i have a big Room and we play live music drums and violin guitar singing what u prefer i want clear sound and by the way the room is for party live music performance and i have alot of guests friends and others maybe from 70 to 80 persons

Celebration Time hello, I’m curious as to what your decision was? I know it’s been awhile since you posted this question. I’ve owned two l1 compacts and they’re great for ceremonies, cocktail area or small parties but that’s it. For about the same price of you negotiate you can get the RCF EVOX 5 which is a 10” woofer but it plays MUCH bigger then it is. I’ve given my l1 compacts to my nephew who does house parties and I’ve bought a set of Evox 5’s and a set of Evox 8’s. I’ve used the Evox 5’s more the the Evox 8’s. I’m more then happy with my purchase. NOW, if you’re just starting out but have the funds I say go with the Evox 8’s that way you’re not limiting your gigs.

Does anyone use DAS speakers? I heard they are nice. Thinking of getting some but need some feedback on them

hey where did you put some EAW speakers , i mean it is probably the the best company ever since 25 years . they make the jf56NT wich is impressive ! well they cost 6K each but they are impressive.

QSC are my favorite those never fail and they throw a punch but expensive...

Hey Rick, what are you views about the EV ZLX series, 15"? I have personally used them and they do a pretty good job in your intermediate level for 100-200 people parties. Obviously when paired with sub they're far better, but even without the ZLX 15 sounds great. Choose them over EKX because of 2 reasons 1) it was much lighter than the EKX due to the plastic elclosure and did not sound that different (EKX was slightly better in my opinion). 2) they were also cheaper than the EKX. So wondering whats you view on the ZLX series, have you tried them yourself?

+Arijit Chowdhury I view rhe ZLX as begineer speakers. The amp power is not there to be in the intermediate level. You can do that big of gigs with the zlxs yes. But you push the lower quality drivers and amps harder than if you had ekx

Not myself.

Honest. Try FBT. They have dual 18”S. Heard them over in the Uk and there up in the pro category especially the DBT mitus system.

Here, in Poland, I really often can see powered speakers from JBL. Mostly the EON 615, and some of PRX 7xx and 8xx series. What do you think about Behringer's B112D powered speakers? Are they good according to their price? Cheers from Poland Rick!

I've got a set of RCF HD 12-A MK4 - 12" 2-Ways & a set of RCF 708-AS II Subs that'll out perform all of the mentioned "Top Powered Speakers" but like you said you haven't experienced RCF yet.

never seen these but my Yorkville 801;s use RCF drivers and I think they kick

I run Yorkville PS12P too with subs.. an absolute beast, much better than Ev or JBL... If you want pro stuff, start there and go up (EAW, Meyer, etc)

Hey man, been following you for a long time! I have 2 EV ELX 15p and 1 EV 118sp sub. Im looking to buy new speakers and wondered if the QSC K12.2 speakers would pair well with my sub. I intend on adding another sub down the road. I DJ some weddings but mostly parties and a club night weekly. Any advice for me?

You can always combine speakers to make them louder. But I am talking 1 to 1 speaker match ups. The k12.2 doesn't have the output or bigger factor vocal clarity that the pro line speaker I listed have. A to B them and you will notice a difference
