    You can't tell how big those things are until you stand next to them. I saw a dozer, an old D6 and walked up to it. The closer I got, the bigger it got. Standing next to a D6 was pretty fucking cool. The D6 is a massive dozer, just stand right next to one and you'll see how big it is. You can't get perception of the sheer size of these things without a human standing next to it.

    That picture was a standard D11R-3 weighing 104,500 kgs. The D11R CD at 112,400 kgs has a straight edge blade with extended sides, extra long tilt cylinders for dumping the carried material, and normally runs 36" grouser plate tracks. The standard D11T weighs in between those two at 107,500 kgs. If a D11T is set up as a carry dozer, then it is 3rd on the weight list. Obviously this wasn't posted by a CAT fan, or someone that knows their dozers. 575s hardly rate a mention anymore by anyone who wants to consistently move dirt. 475s were very good, but are unreliable, hard to keep going and get parts for, and have had their day pretty much. 375s are a great tractor, and I'd own one, but D10T-3 at 67,000 kgs is by far a tougher faster more durable and reliable machine these days. And so far I don't see the others holding market share anywhere, which tells whole the story by itself..

    The stoped making the Komatsu Dozers because they are so hard to transport. At least that’s what I was told and they only run on big mines or other big jobs where there’s nothing they can run over and crush. They are the baddest Bull Dozers on the earth, and yes the newest Cat D-11 is another bad ass dozer and it does the job it’s put to but they do have a tendency to run hotter than they should. But I loved it when I got the chance to play around with it for a week I’d buy one if I had the money and a place to put it.!!!!

    Well it did work one job ,but after that it was decommissioned due to Gaddafi's links to terrorism. When the United States impose trade embargo it just sat around unused as it could not be exported to Libya, also the high cost of Transportation didn't help with exportation. It weighed 183 tons and had 2-675 horsepower caterpillar engines which brought a total of 1,350 horsepower. Built mainly of all caterpillar components. It's practically just a Giant caterpillar bulldozer on steroids.

  • @Colt-tf6xf
    @Colt-tf6xf4 жыл бұрын

    10 horsepower per ton is the magic number, when you exceed it you spin the tracks and break the machine , when you cut it back the machine lasts longer but operates a bit lazy. Allis Chalmers and International usually exceeded the magic number in the attempt to perform better than Caterpillar, they did seem to push better, but final drives transmissions and tracks and downtime left CAT as the sole survivor.

  • @paoloviti6156

    @paoloviti6156

    4 жыл бұрын

    You are absolutely correct: 10hp/ton is the magic number and exceeding it creates enormous stress on tracks but in particular the transmission. In this the CAT is still the best but even this beast needs much needed maintaining even if less to it's competitors...

  • @Colt-tf6xf

    Paolo Viti I used to haul locomotives, (Brookville) and they also use the same formula. They we're a direct drive via roller chains, and used sleeves on a shaft to regulate the guage, and could also offset the machine left or right on the tracks for visibility by changing the sleeve arrangements. I suggested using the John Deere axle method of slotting one side of the axle and using a worm gear to move the wheels to desired guage and position, worked great.

    @@Colt-tf6xf that is very interesting as I know almost next to nothing about this aspect. Paolo Viti the common reply would be thanks for your service, but somehow it doesn't quite gel in Americanspeak, but certainly salutation for your call to duty. I have ran quite a few dozers but never got to be around tanks. Sometimes, when the going gets a little tough and the tracks are slipping in the mud, I can hear the Deutsche battle songs in my head from a previous life in the SS Panzer division. Can't explain it.

    It's kind weird they rate it in horsepower rather than torque. But that is how they're rated. Both bulldozers and tractors in general. All these engines rev about the same (HP = torque * revs), so it gives you the same idea. And comparing between different dozers it'll be relatively the same.
