FYI: I completed the Distracted by Something Shiny Celebi quest this year. The requirements to beat Jessie and James were just replaced with beating normal grunts instead.

2:01 id say the hardest part of 'A Mythical Discovery' is evolve a magikarp only because you need 400 magikarp candy (360 if purified) and that can take hours of walking with one as your buddy and hoping to find some in the wild

I had gotten lucky and powered up and evolved a shiny magickarp for the research, only to hatch a hundo magikarp a week later. Super lucky but now I need another 400 candies@@TheFalconX20

It’s too broken the game would get boring if you could get shundos by doing easy quests for a week

Evolving a magicarp in the mew research was a task, especially because I just evolved one before unlocking that page

Yes I did evolve mine right before and the next thing I know the research task pops up and I’m still stuck on it

I will die on the hill that if Niantic wanted some real profits by more people... they could sell Tickets of all the old Special Research quests that reward legendary Pokemon (not just Mythicals but also like Regigigas, Keldeo, Cosmog, the free Ultra Beasts, etc) and other limited release Pokemon (such as free regional Pokemon). Players who missed out on those would likely be willing to pay real money for the chance to catch up on missed content.

Doing the evolve a magikarp for Mew is incredibly difficult

Pretty sure that the normal Special Research quests for Celebi, Jirachi, Victini, Meloetta, and maybe Shaymin are also available

I actually didn't complete my shiny celebi quest until December 2022 and it actually wasn't hard bc after Jessy and James left you could just fight grunts instead

id also like to mention the shiny galarian birds will most-likely never release because im pretty sure they only got released from a mystery gift in sword and shield (or just never lol)

Another two free mythical pokemon are victini and jirachi. I think jirachi is from the "a thousand year slumber" research and the victini is from another research

I took a break from Pokémon 2018-august 2019 and I only needed 1 day for the box and came back and got a shiny kyogre on my first day back and didn’t realize how lucky that was at the time

An absolutely crucial addendum to this video: you can potentially obtain Legendaries (for free) by winning 3 out of 5 battles per set at Rank 20 or higher in GBL. Mind you, the chances are only about 5%, but they do come with free XLs, which is massive.

Got my shiny celebi, zarude, and the Regis. I remember the legendaries in the breakthrough box. Good old days.

Got a 96% (15/14/14) Zarude. I’ve been slowly trying to powering it up to level 50

My daily incense hadn’t worked for about 6 months, then it randomly started working again. Before it stopped working I encountered a moltres but I didn’t catch it. I got Articuno! I masterballed it and am very happy :) yesterday I encountered moltres again but didn’t catch it but 2 birds in a month is crazy!

Just to add on to this non shiny celebi and jirachi are availiable the same way as mew but at a higher level along with reaching the second to last page on the previous mythicals research at least from my experience

Raikou, Entei and Suicine will be avalible in raids from I think 23rd of September

I got a shiny Regice from that free research which was a cool surprise lol now I never have to do a Regice raid ever

finally used the daily insense properly with walking while it's active for the first time today. had a zapdos spawn for it's second spawn and it ran away after the first throw. if i knew it was going to do that i would have used my master ball on it

I was playing the game since 2016 and i would always do the weekly boxes but I had never once gotten a legendary from it, maybe you had to also be a certain level for that

I actually got the Shiny Celebi research and never completed it until after that event. When I got to the Jessie and James part it was Team GO Rocket Grunts instead.

I haven’t caught a ditto since the Hoenn go tour but I didn’t have the ditto part of the mew research unlocked yet so I’m still searching

In October/November 2022, free Ultra Beasts in special time based research I think. At least I completed it around that time.

One of my friends did the Distracted By Something Shiny and got lucky enough to get the SHUNDO CELEBI. I struggled to actually know for read but then I asked him to show me when he had his phone and sure enough, perfect iv’s on the shiny celebi. Sadly, I was never lucky enough to get the shundo but I did manage to get 2 galarian birds in a row and catch a Zapdos with a whopping CP of 3152. The Articuno did run but as soon as the Zapdos spawned right after it fled, I used my masterball to catch this absolute unit of a Zapdos.

Just now noticed that his shiny mew and shiny celebi have the same cp when he caught them

ive been stuck on the catch a dito challange for probally 4 years mind you i havent played actively in all that time and am only at 3k catches. It has stayed as a goal for all the time ive played. Maybe not a bad thing as its good motivation to go out and play.

the worst part of these legendaries/mythicals in pokemon go is that you can't even transfer the pokemon into pokemon home unless you've already got that pokemon registered in pokemon home, transferred in from a different game

“Distracted by something shiny” has recently changed the defeat Jesse and James 4 times to just beating 4 grunts, happy days

I think you missed the Thousand year slumber free special research which i believe gives a jirachi

the regis were available for free for a few weeks as the 7 day weekly research stamp reward also.

it’s been 5 years and I’m STILL looking for a ditto for a mythical discovery

particularly kind of love and hate the shiny mew, just hear me out lol mew was only ever distributed shiny near the release of the first pokemon movie (i believe) as a 0.1% chance around the 2000s, or hunted in pokemon emerald using the faraway island event only released in japan and nearly intransferrable now, due to the amount of games and consoles you need. its going from gen 3 to gen 8/9, and owning EITHER of these mew show that you have a priceless mew and you have gone a long journey. the pokemon go one removes alot of the surprise regardless, making shiny mew more accessible is a good thing too and im still somewhat glad they did it.

Oh yeah the breakthrough boxes. Where I got shiny Latios that I’ve never seen before so I didn’t know it was shiny until MONTHS LATER

Does anyone know if zarude will ever come back? I stopped playing for while and i missed it when he was out.

I have used multiple incenses and spawned Galarian Zapdos x3. With that luck, I had zero chance to catch it. Saddest moment of my Pokémon journey.

i have gotten 3 galarian bird spawns and 2 of them being Articuno which is my favorite one of them. but unfortunately for me i got my first spawn when the master ball wasnt a thing, second i got a 2831 galarian zapdos that i used my master ball on. and them a week later another Articuno spawned at a cp of 2978

Just started the game literally 2 weeks ago and already got zapados and moltres IN MY HANDS on Daily incense but… wasn’t lucky enough to get em :(

Evolve a magikarp def was not easy for the mew, took me more than a year to get that done with how i play 😂

I was able to get my regular celebi right after the shiny one, my regular was a hundo

Every legendary to date except Keldeo was/is free. Free raid pass every day, GBL encounters, special research etc.

I would not count the shiny Mew as a FREE legendary because you had to pay for the research at the time.

Recently I tried my daily incense and I saw a Galatians Zappos when I tapped a different Pokémon and my incense is glitched and I can’t get the Pokémon so I lost it

How ironic that I literally just lost a galarian Zapdos and I get recommended this video right after I sunk in my disappointment 😭

I am so mad I missed out on shiny celibe

I started playing Pokémon go in 2016. Unfortunately I lost that account and started a new one in 2020. I’m ashamed to say I quit playing the begging of the following year and started again 2023 and encountered Jesse and James often and got the shinny celibi this year. Idk if it was a glitch or it appears when you still have the research. Something to think about.

Zygarde is/was free as well right? (Idk if he’s still available). But I don’t remember paying anything last summer and got the quest and was like “ooooh a legendary out of a research?” Ahah (I stopped since the end of 2016, so I missed pretty much the best parts of PoGos ahah. But there’s still so much to come even if it will take years so I’m okay. I’m overly excited for the Paradox Pokemon but I guess it will be in like 4 years since there’s practically nothing from Galar yet)
