A note from @joesantagato and @gregdybec:
Hey guys. It's conspiracy theory time, because let's be honest, they're interesting! Joe grew up with a dad who believed just about every conspiracy he ever came across. Joe still gets calls from him weekly, so Joe's no stranger to effects a compelling conspiracy can have on a person.
So we decided to turn to you guys (again) and ask what conspiracies are the most believable to you. We received over 1,000 submissions and learned about conspiracies we didn't even know existed.
So we picked 5 of them, put our tin foil hats, and dove deep into each one to see if Joe could be convinced it's real. And let us know in the comments if there are any other conspiracies you'd like us to explore in the future!

The one about Avril Lavigne kills me, because it's like people expect her to stay in her little bubble that she made when she was a teenager. She's lived her life and made mistakes she's allowed to change her style according. Not to mention I think it was referenced that she was in a toxic/abusive relationship and that causes a lot of people to make changes in their life, plus she was also physically unwell for years if I'm not mistaken.

Soooo…fun facts, Helen Keller actually graduated from Harvard and was part of Phi Beta Kappa which is the oldest academic honor Society in America. There is a pretty good movie called “The Miracle Worker” that depicts her life and shows how she was taught to communicate. The finger spelling you mention is done by doing ASL in her hand so she can feel the letters and learn them. It’s actually insanely impressive. @@elliottsalibi Should look into Anne Sullivan's political ideals, and how Helen Keller fell in line with them only after Anne Sullivan became her helper. Before Anne, because of the times, Helen's family was embarrassed of her. Multiple qualified carers of the time deemed Helen to be too deaf/blind to be able to lead any type of regular life. She would be violent and confused because she didnt know what was going on. Anne's main way of translating Helen's "speaking" was finger reading. According to Anne directly, Helen would spell each word, letter by letter, with her fingers and Sullivan would say the words. Yet somehow, Anne was speaking with a regular speech pattern. Try it yourself, even just spelling a word out verbally takes so much longer than just saying the word. We're expected to believe Keller was spelling these words, at the speed an able person speaks them? Just seems a bit weird. Helen Keller was completely real! In my opinion, Anne Sullivan is the fraud, taking advantage of Helen.

Regardless, there seems to be a TON of arbitrary rules - and aren't formally published - that get peoples channel striked, videos demonetized or removed entirely for no apparent reason, and the appeal process is utter garbage. I know so many good creators who've had their entire channel deleted and never given specific reason or chance to rectify it. At the end of the day, we're adults here. Swearing should NEVER be cause for strikes or removal. Theyre just fucking WORDS 😂 Anyway, im a bit bitter cuz ive had strikes and have lost touch with some of my favorite creators who were removed. I used to work in a mattress company in Australia. We had a franchise in every suburb of the city I was in and they all made a killing. We had 5 sales staff all making an average of about 60-70k per week in sales and we were no where near the busiest franchise. Mattresses and furniture are friggen expensive 🤣

Also, if you watch the footage from Ground Control, the guy that was "houston" also was close friends with the same astronauts, and watching him remain composed while the shuttle broke up is heartbreaking.

As you should have been. Why would someone fake being blind and deaf?Especially in the 1800s when having a disability was not the badge of honor and way to fame that it is today, but was more likely to get you put in an institution or your family hide you in the attic all your days.

I love how it makes more sense to some people that everyone was lying about helen than the idea of her using a brail typewriter... honestly i think hellen keller just triggers some peoples feelings of in adequacy and thats why they feel the need to come up with these theories. For some people, the thought of a remarkable disabled person accomplishing more than them just does not work for their self image so they find a way devalue or doubt the remarkable person so that they can maintain a certain self image that their emotional well being relies on. basically what is unconciously going through their mind is "if helen keller accomplished more than me while being deaf and blind that means i am not as great as i keep telling myself I am because I am not deaf and Blind and i didn't accomplish those things. My emotional well being is tied up in this false self image of how great i am and somebody who is less abled than me accomplishing more messes with that self image so i am going to need to find a way to discredit hellen keller or i will not be able to regulate myself" that is the basic mindset that these sorts of conspiracy theories come from.

I used to work for Mattress Firm (they purchased Sleepy's while I worked for Sleepy's, I left shortly after.) They have stores across the street from each other because they expanded by purchasing multiple chains, some having stores across the street and kept them open until the leases ran out. Sleepy's used to do the same thing. I don't know about Firm, but Sleepy's mentality was "flood the market, run everyone else out of business, then slim down." And the mattress business in general is not busy, but all it takes is 1 customer every couple/few days that buys a high end mattress and you're making enough to stay open. There were certainly days I never saw a customer, but I made decent commission at Sleepy's. We made most our money on weekends and "Monday holidays", Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc. Those holiday sales are what the furniture and mattress business lives for. Stake out a mattress store on Memorial Day weekend, you'll see something different.
