Great idea for a video. It makes me want to look through my collection and see what my top 12 is. I was surprised by Prince. I knew you were a fan, but didn’t realize you had so many albums. I’ve recently became a fan of the 12 inch singles. I always passed them by. They have some great artwork though and most of them I’ve picked sound great. You should do a video on your 12 inch singles. Have a great weekend.

The 12 inch singles do sound very good. I don't buy them on a regular basis unless it's an extended mix of a song I love. Prince has great 12 inch singles. I have a cool Thieves in the Temple one that sounds amazing as well. It's always a joy to hear from you Cindy. Take care.

Excellent, as always. The "Magical Mystery Tour" from Germany is sublime. The bass on "Baby, You're A Rich Man" is off the charts. Speaking of Bill Evans, I was fortunate to attend his very last gig at the Village Vanguard in 1980 on June 8th. Almost sat on the stage.. what an experience that was.. :)

Awesome collection Melinda I really enjoyed the 12 you picked I have about the same amount of vinyl you have a little over 2000 records. My few I have a lot of albums is Miles Davis, Prince ,John Coltrane, Bill Evans , Rolling Stones , Rush , Pat Metheny, David Bowie and The Cure .

You have a great collection! I’ve only been buying vinyl for a year or so. Iron Maiden makes up the highest of my collection, followed by VH. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Hagar years reissues! 🙏🏻

Very cool idea for a video! Long After Dark is one of my favorite Tom Petty albums too. I have never seen that Pink Floyd 1966/1967 London album. I knew for sure what your number one was going to be. When you announced your number two pick I was like “Oh yeah I should have guessed that!” Btw I love that shirt! Aloha Melinda Wow ! Over 2000 + Records.... in such a short time. The Great thing about your collection is they are organized! I don't see a hoarder I see a collector ! Now , I must admit I am a hoarder, but within the last year & a half, I've cleaned out my room & put up 4 Shelfs. I had a total of 52 medium U haul boxes filled with Records in my room. Now I have 4 organized Shelfs filled with Record albums. Slowly I'm going through my record albums & deciding what to keep & what to sell. Looking forward to watching your next video. Mahalo Ed

This was fun Melinda! With the recent addition of the Stones Mono boxset, the Stones come in at first for me at 78, albeit that counts CD's and FLAC files in addition to the vinyl! Being Canadian, of course I have plenty of Rush, at 46! These numbers are kinda shocking too when you look at the scope of the purchases one makes, including duplicates and more of the same album! I knew Dylan would be up there for you after watching you now for a year or so! For me, the solo artist I have the most is David Bowie at 40, not counting Tin Machine! Cheers

Great video Melinda, I think most of us are the same - - having those few bands that take up a lot of our collection because they are our favorite to listen to. Without counting, I know these few bands take up a lot of space in my vinyl collection. ;) Eric Clapton, Neil Young (by far the most) Allman Brothers, Joe Bonamassa, Bruce Springsteen & Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Do not have near your collection but my top five are 1 - Beatles, 2 - CSNY, 3 - Elvis, 4 - anything Motown and 5 - Brian Wilson/Beach Boys. Great subject Melinda! Wow I always wondered how many records you have, lol. I thought my 540 records was a lot. I can’t even think of another 1500 to buy, lol. The Beatles would be my number one too with 24 records (mono and stereo copies), Elvis with 19 records. Other artists like Rush, Van Halen, CCR, the Stones , Rare Earth and a few others all around 7 to 8 records each. Oh! I got that Let’s Go Crazy 12” single for the same reason! For Erotic City. I can’t even think of how you get 102 Beatles records except to have alot of duplicates. I have that same Apple/Horzu Magical Mystery Tour also. Sounds absolutely incredible! Thanks. Melinda, you rock! Awesome collection there. I'm at 29 Dylan records. About half of those were handed down to me by my Dylan-fanatic father who upgraded his collection to CD's. When I include my Dylan CD & DVD's I'm at 107. My 2nd highest number from one artist/band is 23 Iron Maiden records, followed closely by 19 Alice Cooper records.

My uncle really got me into Pink Floyd, listening to their albums on road trips, and watching their DVDs at his house on his nice stereo, today I have all their studio albums plus live, and even David Gilmour and Roger Waters who I got to see last year, so they take up most in my vinyl collection GREAT VID!!😎🤘

Hey Melinda. The top band I collect (my favorite band) is Stereolab, with 96 (including 12", 10", 7" and cds), then its the Cocteau Twins with 60, then Rush with 45. Your collection is amazing, you'll be getting up there in Mazzy territory in no time. Take care!

Wonderful video, might be my favorite,19 Prince records, Awesome! l think your collection is just about the right size, not so many that your house is cluttered, but enough to have some very, very cool stuff! I would estimate that I easily have 2,000 Lp’s, 3,000 45’s, and 1,000 CD’s. I can happily say all are in their original jackets/sleeves, right down to my first ever record purchase of 1-2-3 Red Light by the 1910 Fruitgum Co. which I purchased in 1968. I admire you for your diversity favorites, from rock to jazz, as I am the same. I might play the Sex Pistols today, and tomorrow I’ll be enjoying Grover Washington Jr., or Donna Summer. The most records I have by specific artists are, like yourself, The Beatles, then definitely David Bowie. After that, the totals very by so many other artists. With the recent passing of Loretta Lynn, I’m hoping that we will see a complete re-release of her entire catalog, which I will purchase immediately. Melinda, you continue to keep the bar set high, and truly provide interesting and fun to watch presentations! Kudos to you! Just one question……On the female side of music artists, can you name a few of your favorites? 🏆🏆🏆💯💯💯

In my database it breaks it down by artist and format, but doesn’t differentiate between the two. So, my totals combine vinyl and CDs. I have 1398 records and 3274 CDs. Having said that, Dolly Parton tops the list at 174, followed by Fleetwood Mac at 135, Stevie Nicks at 124, Elton John at 83, and Prince rounds out the Top five at 68. The Beatles are close behind at 59. It amazes me that I have that many Dolly Parton albums.

hey melinda...loved this video...and i was actually surprised to see van halen as low as it was, knowing your passion for the group....but as far as my collection goes...first off i would only count vinyl albums...no 12-inch singles, and i would separate paul mccartney from wings...but i do include 'unofficial' albums...so, off the top of my head, my top 12 'most' artists are...leonard cohen, bob dylan, van morrison, john coltrane, paul simon, simon and garfunkel, elvis presley, martha argerich, billie holiday, mel torme, lou reed (not counting velvet underground), and jethro tull......i hope others make videos off this thread....also hope that you and your husband are well...stay warm...peace always...rocky

This is something I never thought about. In my old collection I was more of a completist but now not so much. Bust that said I do have probably the most from Miles Davis, followed by Fela Kuti, The Cramps and Pink Floyd. For the most part now I really pick and choose what I bring in from an artist due to room and my issues with blind buying. That really is a problem for me lol

I haven't heard the UK pressing (good to know from your video that it sounds great) of The Beatles Liverpool box set but I can say that the Japanese pressing I have is absolutely fantastic. On the first listen of it I thought I had wandered into someone else's house who happened to have a high end stereo system😆 ( mine is mostly vintage Pioneer--- good but not top of the line)) and was amazed at how great it sounds. I don't know why more Beatles fans are missing this in their collections. A bargain too at today's prices.

Hey Melinda…great episode! This inspired me to check my biggest (which I know are definitely The Beatles)…I’m at about 140 😳! Yeah, it’s a bit of a sickness… Do you have the MFSL White album in your collection?

I love your Shirt!!!!!!!! Classic!!!!!! Great music Video! Great Album. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Doors take up There own Shelf! I have doubles of many, Once my Ultrasonic cleaning machine comes in I will clean them and maybe sell a couple of the doubles LOL. When it comes to LP Records there is no such thing as a hoarder in my opinion (when is a opinion wrong?)

Impressive Collection! For my collection the two biggest artist that take up the most space is Santana and then Vangelis. I don’t even have all their albums but quite a bit. My favorite albums by them are: Santana “Caravanserai”. I have six different pressings of that album. And for Vangelis “Opera Sauvage” I have five different pressings. I think Fleetwood Mac would be in third place for my collection, especially if you count in solo efforts from various members.

@@MelindaMurphy I’m happy that you like the Mark Lanegan album. I like his albums of his own songs like “Whiskey for the Holy Ghost” and songs he did with Queens of the Stone Age, and also his first band Screaming Trees. I saw them in concert a couple of times. But the cover songs he did on “I’ll Take Care of You” I really connected with. His voice was classic. He did three albums with the Scottish singer Isobel Campbell, their first “Ballad of the Broken Seas” being my favorite. He was very prolific.

Melinda, You have a fantastic Beatles collection! I believe they are well deserved with the love that they get , especially considering you and I are not of that generation. They really were a game changer. Love the Kiss, Van Halen and Rolling Stones as well. I'd love to have the mono boxset. . In my collection, the biggest collections would be Kiss , Jefferson Airplane , Jimi Hendrix , the Beatles and Black Sabbath. None as large as yours though.

Good Lord, girl, you have more Dylan than I have everybody! I would give my left hand to spend one week listening to your collection! The ONLY box set I have so far is the Beatles White Album w/Escher demos, and my all time grail record, The Beatles Hey Jude, which you so wonderfully gifted to me. The worst part of this hobby, aside from the increased cost of albums and the horrible quality control of the reissues, is trying to decide which album next to spend my limited budget on! I am so thankful I was able to nail down my Fluance RT-84 w/Ortofon blue cartridge before my new gear acquisition budget all but disappeared. It has served me so very well!

I have that Magical Mystery tour album. The German pressing. It sounds fantastic. Would you condider doing videos on which pressings sound the best. There are so many pressings of Hey Jude for example. All mine are on Apple but I saw a 1976 issue on Capitol. I waan't sure I wamted it....but maybe.

I was waiting for Van Halen, only surprised it was not higher for you. Without counting my most VINYL albums by artist would be: Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Eric Clapton (especially counting Cream and Yardbirds). My CD collection would actually be very different which I have the most of as my Toad The Wet Sprocket collection is complete on CD (plus bootlegs) as they were my favorite band in the 90's in my post VINYL days.

I was surprised that VH was so low on the list as well. They just haven't been putting out as much as some other bands have. I hope that changes. If I had added up every band Clapton had been in and his solo work, I probably could have added him to the list. Lol. Thank you and have a great night!

My collection is of mainly 1970s or earlier music. Linda Ronstadt, Abba, Eagles, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves and Crystal Gale, all of which includes compilations as well as original albums. The search for best masterings and pressings continues....

It's always nice watching your videos, Melinda, even when you're talking about bonfire material like those KISS records you showed. 😁 What, no "wunderful, wunderful, wunderful" Lawrence Welk records showed up on your list? 🤣I'd say that I'm not really the kind of audiophile who likes to acquire a lot of records from a single band with two notable exceptions. I have more Pink Floyd and The Doors albums than most other other bands. When it comes to Pink Floyd, I have eight pressings of the The Wall alone. I recently added to The Doors albums I have with the AP/QRP 45 rpm version of Strange Days; it is the best version I have ever heard of that album. 😻 What I actually like to do is get the high spots from a wide variety of bands in different genres.🤔 They are albums that I'm going to want to hear again and again in the future. This strategy saves shelf space and money. I'm reaching the point when one day I will only keep around 100 of my records and the rest will find a good home. Those records will be the best albums in my collection and among the ones I will want to pass down to my family when I depart for the "Great Gig In The Sky". 🎸🎸🎸

@@MelindaMurphy As for which The Wall album I like the best, it's a simple question with a complicated answer. What version of The Wall I want to hear depends on my mood. If I want to hear a punchy version, I will put on the U.S. promo, first U.S., or other TML version. If I want to hear a less punchy, more detailed version, then I listen to the first Japanese pressing. I really like the Japanese first a lot. If I could only keep one, I'd have a really tough time deciding and would probably end up keeping two or three versions. 👍💖🎸😎

here are my top 10... AC/DC 20, Dave Brubeck 21, Madonna 22, David Bowie 22, Metallca 28, Kiss 30, Prince 35, Springsteen 42, The Rolling Stones 51 (made a HUGE jump up since I got the Color Mono Box you recommended) The Beatles 55

Hey Melinda wow that's an interesting statistic. I would've thought Van Halen was at the top but it kind of makes sense being The Beatles especially counting multipl copies of certain titles. I would say they top my count but the next groups & artists would probably surprise me so it might be worth doing the exercise. The number would balloon further if I counted CD's & 45's. Off the top of my head my biggest vinyl sections would be The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Santana, David Bowie. That Stones coloured vinyl mono box is great. Got mine 2 days ago. I agree. I love The Rolling Stones box set. The Beatles put out so many releases. It's easy to have a lot of their records. Van Halen doesn't release a lot of records these days. I hope that changes. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Holy Cow is that a lot of records for one band or artist. It would be interesting hearing different mastering and mixes of the same record. I think 15 is the max I have for one artist, and I usually only keep one copy. Unless it is unplugged or a really good live album I stay with the studio albums. My tops being Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Stanley Turrentine, John Coltrane, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Porcupine Tree, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.

I count records and cd's in my collection....I have around 800 cd's and about 3000 records. The top 6 artists in my collection are (in order of number of titles per artist) Frank Zappa, KISS, Jimi Hendrix, T. Rex, David Bowie and Miles Davis. They make up close to 25% of my collection. I have been collecting since the early 1980's as a young teenager. My love for KISS was when I was a kid and then Jimi got my attention and by the late 80's I was a confirmed Zappa nut. Through the 1990's discovered Marc Bolan and T. Rex and took a deep dive into that catalog and just love Bowie as well. Nice subject and great video. I was surprised too that you have 39 Van Halen records! But they are your favorite so I guess I shouldn't be surprised! Take care!

Deep Purple - 61 10.Black Sabbath - 54 I was surprised too at the high numbers for Blondie & Kate Bush but they issued MANY MANY MANY 12 inch singles with breathtaking picture sleeves - what a great idea for a video Melinda!❤

My top 5 in vinyl only. Course there’s a lot more variety in the cds 😊 KISS - 133 Alice cooper - 20 Ace frehley - 20 Van Halen - 15 Metallica - 12 Debating starting a vinyl Iron Maiden collection as i am a huge fan of their album cover art. Won’t attempt to do ac/dc as I want the Australian versions of their first 4 records and the prices are in the holy smokes realm. Lol.

First off, great shirt. I laughed out loud when I read it. I have just over 500 records and 5 artists take up slightly over 25% of my collection. They are Pink Floyd and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, both with 19 each. Jack White/White Stripes with 27. Tom Petty with 29, and Rush with 54, a whopping 10% of my collection. What a fun video, Thanks.

First time in the UK in 30 years vinyl records have outsold CDs.The younger generation are into vinyl now.I wont get rid of my CD collection,CDs are great but i just like vinyl better because i like the old format.May the rise in vinyl record sales continue!

Hi Melinda, If we count the Rolling Stones in Mono and the Queen Box set as 16 LPs each - they're in the lead with 60+, Bob Dylan comes in right after them at about 55, Beatles and U2 with over 40. In CDs though, Dylan is the clear winner with almost 250 CDs (counting every CD of every box set.) Great video! Thank you!
