Oh my goodness this took a while. If you find any little errors in the video, just chalk that down to trying to do this while holding down a full time job and the resulting fatigue that comes with that :) ANYWAY, what games should I be playing that aren't on here? What did you think of the teaser at the end? Am I mad for doing a video like this? Let me know. (TL/DR list below as well)

Calistake047 I second this. Love Three Minute Boardgames.
This is the best top I've seen so far. The format is flawless. The content is both classic and also new to me, many new games to search now :)
Fantastic list - I’ve added a couple to my ‘want to play’ and have dug out a couple from my shelves to get back to the table ;) thanks for putting this together.
Videos like this are great for me because, even though I don’t often discover new games this way, it gets me to look again at games I’ve otherwise dismissed in the past. Thanks for doing what you do!

Your Twilight Struggle video idea sounds very good. Definitely do that one.
Was baffled to see ADP not on the list, until I got to the end! looking forward to more news about your project... now, between you and Steph, I think I have to find a copy of Obsession!
Excellent list! I really would like the Twilight Struggle video that you talked about. Love your channel.
Such concise yet thorough recaps of all games, great video!
I would definitely love to see that Twilight Struggle playthrough! Also, it was your original review of Spirit Island that convinced me that I had to get the game. I like games with unique themes and no game is more unique than Spirit Island, so thanks for turning me on to that game!

Many of the top 100 now i've done full reviews for too.
Thank you for this! BGG Secret Santa is coming up and you've given me a few ideas for board games to put on my wish list.
Great video. Saw a lot of interesting games I'd never heard of, but will definitely look into.
Excellent video yet again.. New to the hobby and after viewing this I've added 5 to the list to purchase this week 😊
Oh my, can't wait to hear more about the Coin design, roll on 2020. Thanks for a great video, I see a lot of overlap in our taste of games, must be a southern hemisphere thing :-)
I really enjoyed that. Your style is so refreshing, and to blow through 100 games in the pace you did was great. The games I know well were nice to review, the games I’m aware of I could quickly learn more about, and the new ones to me taught me something I didn’t know. Excellent video
fantastic list!! Really enjoyed watching. Thanks for uploading!!
Great video as always! It would be interesting to hear how many plays each of these have, even if just the top 10. And obviously after this we need a list of the top 10-25 games you have painted copies of!

I need a better macro lens for the minis vid, but it is planned. Estimated plays 10 Thunderbirds (35) 9 This War of Mine: The Board Game (14) 8 Chinatown (12) 7 Anachrony (10) 6 War of the Ring (First Edition) (30) 5 Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game (40) 4 Star Wars: Rebellion (12) 3 Twilight Struggle (50) 2 Terraforming Mars (400) 1 Spirit Island (25)
This list is amazing thanks for taking the time to put it together. There are so many "missed" (by me) gems in this list I can't wait to check out. Board games are about having fun with friends and we have similar tastes, though I value good (in my eyes) mechanics more than story a bit more than you. I'd love to play TS anytime or see that video made. Happy gaming.
Great list. 4 of your top 10 are in my top 20. Spirit Island and Anachrony are my 3 and 4, such great games.
Very nice video countdown. Thank ! I would add the year release of every game, beside their name

I put that down to me playing games I like the look of, and never having cared about whats "hot on BGG" or with reviewers. I've had plenty of time to develop my own tastes in games over the years. Hopefully you find some gems in that pile of weirdness i call my fav games.
Nice! Im trying to figure out a board game and some of them gived me a lots of ideas!!!
Great list, fast paced presented, others should take a look in how to do a top 100 without yawning. Cheers from Brazil!
Great list, I've at least played 23 (and own 20) of your top 100 list this time around :P

Cheers. I personally can't watch those 8 hour long top 100's in 10 videos. That's like a full days effort to watch them.
Thank you for sharing your top 100. I watch this one and 2018 top 100. I like your selection, not every game is on my radar, but you made some games more interesting to me. Now, I noticed that you like negotiation games and you like the Netrunner board and card. But I was watching a different reviewer and his best negotiation game is New Angeles (2016) (part of the Netrunner world). Heard of it? Maybe you have, maybe you haven't. Well, I just wanted to let you know. I haven't played it, but to me sounds really good. Well, thanks for the list. Keep up the great videos.

New Angeles was just outside the list both times, mostly because i havent played it as often as id liked, and it works best at 6, which is a hard number to get. I did a 3 minute recap video of it though
This video is ENORMOUS. nice work getting it done.
I appreciated your comments on Spirit Island. Thanks for the immense amount of effort and time you put into making this video for us!
Great to have a video to reminds me about all the great games that already exist before Essen. Then again, this also reminds me how interested I am in Paladins. Glad to see Aeon's End up there, though. And keep the teasers coming. :) (Side note: there are two 38s, just so you know.)

I would love to see that Twilight Struggle play through!! Ps, great list! I love so many of these games, and i’m excited to try a lot of the others. Millennium Blade sounds incredible.
I'm interested in a playthrough and historical discussion of Twilight Struggle
Sad to see no Mage Knight, but not too surprised considering your feelings on it. Still a great list and amazing explanations as always. Keep it up! Out of curiosity, have you ever tried A Feast for Odin? It's my personal favorite worker placement games, and you seem to be really into those. :-)
@3MBG
4 жыл бұрын
Still havent gotten around to feast of odin. I was holding a copy in a store last night and thinking "thats a lot of game box"
My wife and I just sat through the whole video just after completing our first Spirit Island game, nice timing and agreed, what an awesome game ! :) Outstanding list and channel you got there, thanks for the hard work. I just picked up Viticulture (have yet to try it) heavily based on your 3 minutes review but see it's not on the list. A case of not played enough or just not good enough ?
@3MBG
4 жыл бұрын
I don't mind viticulture, it was in the 101-150 bracket. I found though that there were some plays where certain card combos dominated. I once won by double the score of my opponents because of a very strong opening hand of actions. (I had the big cellar and 2 buildings done by the end of turn 1)
Definitely would love the twilight struggle play-through. It is a game I’ve seen and heard about but can’t bring much context to. Seeing it though someone who knows the issues and struggles of the time would make for a really interesting watch for me personally.
Great list! Really great games on there. I own many of them certainly a few that I need to get. Certainly need to get Horrified, Galilean Moons and Obsession. I really, really want Spheres of Influence but, I cannot find it anywhere. I agree TF Mars is a great game. My group tried to play Spirit Island but, the asymmetry got the best of my wife and my buddy's wife and they ended up hating it. I liked it though just had a hard time teaching it. For this reason while I like Root we cannot play it as our better halves have no interest in learning the complexities of each animal group. Still love this list, we definitely think on the same wave length!
This list and presentation is just impressive!
Thanks for a fab video. First time poster but have been watching your videos most of this year and love them. I'm in a group of 4 boardgamers that unfortunately don't get to meet up as often as we'd like so typically meet about once per month on average. As such, there's no real point in buying a large number of games as they'd rarely/never get played. Because of this your channel has become a great way for me to hone in on what could be worth buying. We particularly like Co-Op games and you've covered plenty of them in this video so there's great options open to us now for the next year ahead. One surprise is that Mage Knight didn't feature at all. It ticks the Co-Op box, plus you seem to enjoy solo game play which it's rated the best consistently, yet you didn't mention it at all. I'm intrigued why that might be? Solo isn't something I've not done much of but think I'll try some out in the next while as it's a way to get better value for my purchases (and get me off my mobile phone). Scythe is one I have already and am going to try, but I'd be interested in which other ones (if any) you'd recommend with that specific slant, other than Nemos War, Mansions of Madness and Anachrony from the overall top 100 list (that I jotted down).
@3MBG

I have complex feelings about Mage knight. I really like the mechanics and the puzzle of the game. I find the theme is awful and disconnected and it looks ugly. I like playing it solo, but its one of the worst games i've ever played with a group
I watched last year's top 100 a couple of times. This one is even better. Well done. Coin question... have you played Gandhi? I've been considering it. If you have, where does it rank among the Coin series for you?

Not yet. We have a copy but have not played it.
I love your description of Spirit Island. I've been a little afraid to try it because it looks quite heavy, and I generally have to buy a game to play it. However, maybe I can convince my spouse to try it at the board game cafe. I think he would like the theme. We also live on an island (West Coast of Canada), and, although I like living here, the development keeps marching on, at the expense of forests and farmland.

It's truly a good game. You can also play it solo with a couple of spirits.
Great list and video! Of course I disagree with Mage Knight not being on there... however I almost exclusively play my board games solo- and I can’t imagine MK being anywhere near as good when played with others. Circadians: First Light has really pricked my interest out of these :)
I would love a Twilight Struggle playthrough, with perhaps more emphasis on the historical context and how it might differ from the game-play strategy, rather than on strategies to win themselves.
I love your 1&2! Funny you dont mention my all tine favorite: mage knight! Have you tried it? If yes, why didnt it make the list? Thanks in any case :)

I have a love/hate relationship with Mage Knight. I like the mechanics and the puzzle and it solo. I think its ugly, has a disjointed theme and is like pulling teeth playing it with others.

From someone who has invested 70+ hours into mage knight, I kinda agree with the prior comment although I still enjoy it a lot. Happy to see Gloomhaven on the list though, would definitely recommend it over Mage knight.
Man, black orchestra is one of the most amazing coop experiences I’ve had in a boardgame - that one roll and success made our whole table cheer out loud. So immersive and engaging.

Awesome video and list. Had to watch it in two parts with my brother but was well worth it.Excited to try some of these. The Networks just arrived Friday and I’m eager to read the rules when I have time. Edit: Definitely happy with the amount of detail you used to describe most of the game’s. Didn’t want it to sound like I was complaining about length it is perfect.

That depends on how different our next plays go. If we find ourselves repeating plays, it might go down. If we feel their are legitimate different paths to victory it may go up
Glad you loved Yokohama so much! I'm glad to see many critics see how magical the game is, and how the board and cards shuffle again and again every time you play! And Arsehitects is on the list too! Nothing like ripping apart peoples workers! And thanks for reminding me about Paladins! And how replayable is Argent?
@3MBG
4 жыл бұрын
Argent is pretty much endlessly replayable, although it is an "event" game for me. which means i play it every now and again rather than back to back like others.
Great work on this, thanks!
I lean to the mechanic side versus theme, but boy when you get a game that does both very well, it’s special. WOTR 2e and TS are 2 such games. Saw you got Nations...best historical civ game IMO. Great video!
@3MBG
4 жыл бұрын
Cheers. I have a crew keen for nations as they just played tapestry and the consensus was "lets play an actual civ game instead" ;)
Thanks for this list! Your videos are just THE BEST on KZread :)!!! Also, my number 1 matches yours- what a game! Can I ask how do you feel about the new mechanics introduced in the expansions? (Ie events, token). I love the deterministic nature of the base game and am put off by the randomness in the expansions although I’d love the idea of more content, not sure if I’m missing out or I’m just good with the base :-/

I think the thematic board and tokens are when the game is at its best. And i think the events are good to remove some "rote" play from the game.
Please do explain Twilight struggle. I've got the app and I just don't last even in the simplest difficulty against the AI
Yes to the play through of Twilight Struggle. I didn't enjoy one play of it, but I would be really interested in seeing someone who knows what they are doing and the history associated with it.

Absolutely loved this video, loved the honesty and overall description . I am now a subscriber and this will be one of my go to channel's for game recommendations 👊 p.s me and my wife would love a video for 2 player games as this has been our new hobbie and down time for the past year 🙏....Star Wars Rebellion was always a number one game on my list for us to purchase, now it's a solid must own 😁👍.

I recorded it and put it up for patrons. It was a bit of a damp squib though as i won the game in the early war, lol
Twilight Struggle video for sure! As for games, get some more plays of Great Western Trail in and it could make the next one.

I have really been looking forward to this list! 11 of my 26 games are featured on the list, with 3 being in your top 10 (Anachrony, Terraforming Mars and Spirit Island). Have you tried Nations and Concordia? I believe these two would suit your taste :)

Ha! Concordia is one of the "loved but only played once" games. And I got Nations 2 weeks ago at a 60% off flash sale. Still have not played it, but people are keen to try it after our test groups experience with Tapestry.

@@3MBG Good to hear! Giving your love for enginebuilding and worker placement, I think especially Nations will be a good fit. It also got a great expansion ;)
Amazing list. Thank you
I'd really love to see you play through terraforming mars. I suffer from analysis paralysis. This game intrigues me greatly.
Cool list, there was quite a few games I hadn't heard of that I'm now interested in getting eventually. I was surprised you put Sentinels of the Multiverse on the list at all. I find the game unplayable except virtually due to how much a chore bookkeeping is in it. It also plays itself for the most part. each turn you have a few cards available and it's usually pretty clear what to do. I was also surprised you ranked Chinatown way above Sidereal Confluence. Sidereal is just so much richer as a trading game. There is far more things you can trade, yet the time limit forces you to act fast instead of sit there and try to price gouge every single trade. Chinatown is fun, but I find it's quite mediocre unless you're playing the full 5p game as there's just not enough going on otherwise. Too often you just have one or two very valuable deals you need to make, and the round drags as you negotiate with the other player on a fair price.
@3MBG
4 жыл бұрын
In a way, sidereal hasn't "earned" its full rating yet. I've played Chinatown a lot more. My list is heavily biased towards games i play more often. For sidereal to get as high as it did with only 4 plays is pretty good going, and if i play it more, it will be higher next year.
Just for some context approximately how many games have you played enough times to consider them for this list? Really enjoyed watching it! Also I keep finding myself on your channel decided to subscribe :) Everyone reading this should too!

Thanks for this great, thoughtful list -- ad especially for mentioning that Bloc by Bloc was available from the publisher as a PNP! I backed out of the original KS campaign and have regretted it ever since. Cheers!

I love that their values are such that they just want the game out there. A free, full PNP is rare.
Impressive summaries at this speed! Some of those other guys could learn a thing or too, hah. I'd love to see a Venn Diagram of our tastes, there's some significant crossover, but also quite a large divergence. Interesting how tastes work like that. Curious, you love "Dudes on a Map" games, but none of the Matagot trilogy made your list? Also interesting of note, it wasn't until the mid 40's or so where your summaries started to become wholey positive. I often wonder when watching top 100 lists if 100 isn't too much. Myself there are about 60 games that I love, and 100 or so that I really like. Not that it's not still fun to hear more choices. Great work!
@3MBG

I've seriously got to play those games, I assume you mean Kemet, Inis and Cyclades? Which are all on my "to play list". Part of being a critic, for me at least, is acknowledging that even very good things aren't perfect. And 100 games in a row of "this is the best" would probably be quite fake in a way. So i do try to mix the good with the bad where possible in the time frame i give myself for each game (which is less than a minute)

Last comment. Cheers for putting Empires of the Void II on the list. My only regret with that game is that it needs to be about 20% longer and the set up is a beast.
Good to see healthy heart hospital is still in your list. As for the new publisher, it is up to them, but there is a ready-to-go streamlined second edition if they do it.

Cheers Scott. It's a real fav of mine, especially solo. I just love the slow burning puzzle element. I've even taken some of the ideas and used them in a prototype i'm building about building a task force to hunt a serial killer. If you land a publisher for that 2nd ed. I'll be there with bells on. The main reason i haven't done "HHH is 3 minutes" is the question mark over the first edition.
What an effort! Bravo!

I am really reluctant to tell people to go all in on a expensive game like that. I personally have all the stuff and got the extras, but that was after watching a lot of playthrough vids, reading the rules and really sizing the game up. I recommend hitting the books/vids and having a good long look at the gameplay and if its for you.
