Over the past few years we have been following 8bitdo and their controller releases. While some have been a bit more traditional, they do have a tendency to get pretty creative with some of their products. The latest controller that we are looking at today is the smallest controller I have ever seen.

This isn't a joke product though, for emulating anything up to 16 bit this controller's quality competes well with the first party controllers. You don't so much need heft or grips without analog sticks you need good quality buttons. While small, these buttons have that good feel. And it fits a niche of something that has similar functionality to a single joycon but with a dpad instead of a stick, and that's a niche some people want
It's the perfect portable controller for me! I have a Dualschock 4 at home but whenever I'm going somewhere and feel like playing a level of Sonic, I can just take this out of my pocket, connect it to my phone and run some emulation.

In case someone didn't know this, While the Zero 2 has a D-pad, it actually is the left stick of a normal controller which means that you can play games like smash with it. Games that require a "real D-pad" or the right stick does not work though.

The small size, low cost and number of platforms supported makes this a pretty neat option for controller mods. I've been meaning to retrofit an old Amiga joystick into something more modern for use with emulators. One of these would easily fit in there. It's pretty much cheaper buying one of these than trying to source all parts for a DIY solution.
I love that GameStop is sponsoring your vids! I don’t want them to go away. Keep up the great work !

Nintendo Switch: Key Fob Edition.
Bought the original non-switch Zero version for under $8 shipped years ago, wasextremely impressed with its build quality and usability.

I thought "8bitdo" was based off "Nintendo", and since that's a japanese name you're supposed to pronounce it as "doh" (just one vowel sound, unlike the "ou" pronuntiation that's so common in english). Then again, english can be a clusterfuck when it comes to phonetics and people are gonna pronounce it whichever way regardless of what anyone says. Especially americans, who get pretty irritable when someone tries to correct their pronuntiation and will go for the wrong pronuntiation on purpose just out of spite.
@SourStrawberrys

@SquidBag Nope, it's pronounced "doo" as in Scoobydoo. The company already clarified.

@@raid3n1117 So you pronouce Nintendo as Ninten "doo"? Or Condo as Con "doo" or Commando as Comman "doo"? Come on now. It is no suprise that when people read it they see it as "dough" rather than "doo". 🙄 So dont think that just because it is not spelled as "doe" or "dough" that people aren't going to initially pronounce it that way. There are many words were it is spelled as "do" but actually pronounced like "doe".

It's interesting. The micro USB port instead of C and the laughably short included cable are clear cost cutting measures but the controller still costs more than you can get a whole knockoff pro controller for on Amazon. I like the controller a lot, I would also like some company to release a small controller like this but with an analog stick like the ds one, so that it would be usable with smash
Looks like it can play Taiko perfectly!
ohh my toddlers would love these!
That zoom in on him dropping the controller made me laugh...why was it that funny?
It's really smarter than everybody can think. Sure they made these mini controllers to match the Switch concept first and clearly for using on the go. More comfortable than a joy-con and the D pad is here. It can fits in a pocket compare to standard pro controller. Like it :)
I feel like these are perfect for little kids and trying to teach them a simpler game!
I'd like to see one half this size.

I have both of the original, and I have gone without using them for quite a while (around 2 months), and I haven't had to recharge them.

of course he whipped out the Purple Joy-Con xD Because Spawn Wave loves the color Purple :)

i have the first version and i have to say that the back has barely been erased its like a year old or something already good to play on emulator, thankfully the buttons can be remapped on the phone
I would use it as an alternative to using the touch controls for phone emulation.

In find that 8bitdo controllers are always way more comfortable than you think they're going to be from their appearance. I just got my Zero 2 and it's surprisingly comfortable for anything that doesn't use the shoulder buttons too frequently. And it's fun to use too, the light weight actually makes it feel nice too. And my Pro 2 also from 8bitdo kind of looks like a weird cross between a SNES and PS1 analog controller, but man, once in the hand it's uncanny how comfortable it is.
@ungratefulmango

I've had the same experience with 8bitdo controllers. I originally got the SN30 Pro (the one with the analogue sticks, but without the grips) and that was an absolute dream. Then when I got the Pro + (with the grips) my wife ended up keeping it and using it a lot with her family. For Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat mostly. I'm just about to pick up one of these because we're occasionally short by just one controller, so I'll just stick this thing in the carry case so I always have it ready to go
They should make it to where this registers as a single Joy Con when connected to the switch. It just makes more sense
