The Time Has Finally Come... Tony Hawk Ride!

Ойындар

Yeah, it finally happened. I got my hands on Tony Hawk Ride to review for the channel. Nobody is happy about it.
This game is tough to get through. I think the worst part is that it isn't 100% bad. There's a glimmer of some kind of good idea deep, deep, DEEP under all of the crap.
No, I take that back. The worst part is knowing I still have to play the sequel.

The fact that Neversoft left, completely destroyed the Tony Hawk games. It's like carrying around a gun without the bullets. Tony Hawk was the gun, but Neversoft was the bullets & it made that weapon fire. As soon as they ran out, they replaced it with Nerf ammo.

Most third party PS3 peripherals didn't use the built-in Bluetooth but instead used infrared receptors which the PS3 doesn't natively support, hence the dongle. Makes sense, as Bluetooth peripherals ain't cheap--note how the official DualShocks for PS4 are $60 but third party controllers average $20-40. You're not just paying for first party prestige, you're paying for Bluetooth.

  • @caodesignworks2407

Third party controllers are always $20-$30. All the way back to at least N64/ PS1 days. That's the only reason people often suffer through how terrible they are. It's not just the Bluetooth that makes them more expensive. Especially since Adopter member class is free and modules can be had for less than $4USD on eBay. Manufacturer quantity pricing would be a ton less.

@@caodesignworks2407 oh man, there were actually some good N64 3rd party controllers back in the day. Can't remember the brand name but I had a dark red one and a dark green one that were excellent, I'd often use them in place of a 1st party. It was very comfortable to use and even had grip on the "fins" or whatever you'd like to call em. Come to think of it, N64 had some pretty crazy 3rd party peripherals. I had a couple controller wire extensions, plug one end into the 64 and the other into the plug on the controller and you could play across the room from the TV! I also had an actual wireless N64 controller that required a dongle be plugged into the controller port on the system. It didn't work great (imagine that!) and the controller itself didn't have a very substantial feel so it didn't get much use. Not to mention it ate batteries. Good memories!

The dongle was necessary for the PS3 version because Sony didn't allow third party developers to use the PS3's bluetooth function. People speculate the reason why had two reasons. 1. Sony wanted their first party controllers to be superior to third party ones. And 2. The Bluetooth is a potential entry point to hack the system and they were on a big push to prevent people from hacking the PS3. (To the point where they pursued legal action against a person who successfully put linux on the system after it was patched out) For the 360 version I dunno. Activision's Guitar hero controllers didn't require a dongle.

its funny how tony hawk has said before that he's skeptical about putting his name on anything because he's afraid that if that product turned out to be trash, it would hurt his credibility but his name is behind skateboarding game atrocities like ride, shred, downhill jam and proving grounds.
