Fun Fact: Checkers was "solved" in 2007. They found that every game will end in a draw when neither player makes a mistake. An -unbeatable- unbeaten Checkers AI, Chinook, was -produced- updated to be unbeatable as a result. EDIT: My post implies that the AI in question did not exist beforehand. It was just updated by the person who created the proof to make it impossible to beat. Apologies for any confusion. Many thanks to Seth Courrégé for helping me spot this. Show them some love by leaving a like in their reply to me. :)

For what it's worth: Checkers is a "solved game" -- a map can and has been constructed which, if followed, guarantees a win or draw for the player following the guide, regardless of what moves their opponent makes. You've likely seen similar "no-lose" maps for much simpler games like Tic Tac Toe. In short, there is no first-move advantage in (American rules) Checkers.

@@MasterChief0522 Chess is only "solved" if you're playing a special variant, usually "losing chess". It employs different rules and compulsory capture that limit the complexity to a level that computers were able to solve it. Normal chess has only been "partial solved" for specific low-piece endgame boardstates and not for a full match. It's possible to solve chess, theoretically, because there aren't an infinite number of moves but currently computers aren't powerful enough to brute force a solution.

They're both awful. Arin was in a situation where he would have lost a piece no matter what he did, but would have been able to take Dan's king in retaliation, instead he moved a second checker into the King's face and gave it a safe jump. Also at the start of the second game he could have forced Dan into a formation that would have allowed Arin to punish with a safe double-jump and he missed it.

Checkers guy here, so when I look at arin and dan play I can see that dan is using a defensive strategy, very safe,as for arin, he is using an offensive strat. It’s a pretty aggressive strategy, very risky. If the opponent can successfully counter effectively, then it leaves your back row defenseless. Will check back in when game is over to offer analysis. Edit: so after seeing the first match I would say that arin almost messed up, he made a bad move which could have given dan a chance to turn the tables, cause arin was on the offensive there, the issue there is if dan could have gotten his peices behind arins, then he would have as a clear path to some Kings, cause when your aggressive you are bringing your peices up, which can leave your back row almost empty and getting past that is a free king. it’s risky business to be aggressive, but it was fine cause dan did not pursue the mistake. Dan was playing defensive and timid/Safe so he wasn’t taking advantage of arins placements as well as he could have imo, that was the turning point and it cost dan the game. In game 2 arin dident really think it through. I’m suspecting Arin was lucky simply because he plays aggressively in most games so he defaults to it without knowing it and it just so happened to counter dans strategy. Cause defense is fine but you have to attack back at some point, In game 2 dan played much more balanced. He was able to take advantages when he saw them without being to aggressive. In game 3 dan made a very fatal mistake. He tried to do the same thing as game 2. He was very transparent and even Arin was able to see through it. Like Arin said he knew what dan was doing, so in that way he could be very aggressive while controlling the situation. Edit 2: so some people below are confused, the strategy’s are legit, but they really dident have names that I could recall so I gave them names, it’s still legit though don’t worry. Just wanted to clear that up. I will just get rid of the fake names since some people don’t seem to like them,

Hello, local Checkers enthusiast, here to give you a game breakdown. Both Arin and Dan had a roughly 7 to 3 bad to good play ratio, so they mostly balanced each other's badness out. Their initial lack of understanding of the rules doesn't help much, so they both could probably improve a great deal by being taught that you can make strategic plays by forcing an opponent to take your piece, which they currently aren't really looking at. Dan missing the chance to lose a piece and take TWO kings in return is a great example of that blunder, at 13:40
