Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jessie Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, Monte Moore, and Morris Day were nasty ....even though Prince was behind 80 to 90 percent of their music as far as songwriting and production....they used to play at clubs at least 3 or 4 times a week in Minneapolis ....as Flyte Time when Alexander O Neal was the lead singer before he got replaced by Morris Day ...who was in the rival Grand Central band with Prince and Andre Cymone...there was a competition between the Time and Prince's band...The Revolution when they would go on tour because that is how the Minneapolis music scene was in the 80's!

Thanx for the infos bro'. I think lot's of us here in Europe didn't and still don't know about all the story of Minneapolis sound, especially here in France ! I love Alex O'Neal too, and didn't know that he was a serious rival at this time !! in the 80's, Minneapolis produced some rocky funk, and that was the music was f...g different !!

This is great video. I remember Stacey Adams, pencil thin ties, baggy slacks and pocket watch chains because the Time! So glad they came to Omaha often probably because Terry Lewis is from Omaha Nebraska. During this tour I think, they had COOL and absolutely killed Prince. The crowd went crazy for them in the old Civic Auditorium. Great times...

Listen how Jessie got the guitar singing sick!! the time is the best group in the world with a fusion of rock and funk!!!

I'll say it again. Those claiming later versions of this band, need to check themselves and history. Nobody messing with them back then. Even Prince knew it!

Those that don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. People PRINCE WROTE AND PLAYED FOR THE BAND THE TIME. HE PLAYED GUITAR AND SANG AND WROTE THE TIMES ALBUMS. PLEASERESEARCH!!!!!

I already know the history, but apparently the person who said learn your history, doesn't know the history of the Time being able to play live extremely well. It's the one thing Prince couldn't totally control once they got on the road.

Best opening act ever. Need a live album from these guys.

Absolutely brillant in live. Those musicians were great. That bass and guitar are super funky. Wish I was in the audience.

Jay and Silent Bob are loving this. .

Wow the sound is clear love it the time is one of my all time favorite bands.

This here is why Prince was afraid of them when they perform, he created A MONSTER.

💯 - The Time was an amazing band. Fantastic!!! ... But, remember that both of their entire albums were written, produced and performed by Prince. While Prince was also writing the Controversy album, the 1999 album and the Vanity6 album.... PRINCE was literally a GENIUS!!! .... RIP Prince. 💯👍🏽

Yeah, Morris is a little man with an undeniably big personality, plus bendable Go-Go-Gadget outsized arms. That and his impeccable sense of his own pocket made him cool up front or on point behind the kit. Allen Iverson was the basketball version of this: small in stature, long-armed swagger.

Yea this was dope great quality on this video. I heard the Roxy was popping, much more my parents timeframe. So happy I had these records in my house.

How interesting when it's Prince playing all the Instruments in the Studio including The guitar solo Jesse had to learned how to play it, Jesse could play but Couldn't Write Music. Actually Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis learned how to Write and from Prince
