the "tie dyed" polymer clay cane tutorial or IKAT

This is a simple, quick little picture tutorial for the "tie dye" looking cane that I made which caused such a stir on the HOP group on Facebook! it really is simply a basic IKAT design, but using extra special colors and placement an effect similar to tie dye may be produced! I hope you enjoy, I hope I wasn't confusing and I truly hope I can help if you have any questions! Thank you for watching!

I may still try to finish that one, but I was not happy with how the house was turning out. I only have my phone to record with also, so it's a bit of a struggle to set up for recording. 🤣 all my excuses, who knows what may come! 💗 thank you again!!

    This tutorial was fantastic. You've come a long way in a short time! Yah, the lettering was a bit much, but OK for one video. Loved how the music reflected the sixties vibe (my era, btw). At time 9:40'ish you said you added white to the colors, does that mean you did a Skinner blend to add the white or did you use some other method?

  • @CraftyKatsCorner

    @CraftyKatsCorner

    Thank you so much! I really was hoping to exude a 60's kinda groove! 😁 I did do basically a skinner blend with the white for each color! I just did a slightly less measured and precise form of it called a teardrop blend, but it ends up with the same sort of results!

    Hello. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent. I appreciate your time as well! By chance do you have the directions printed somewhere? In addition to a brain injury 5 years ago ,I have vertigo. After almost two full days rewinding and playing the rainbow one trying to understand it I came to this one for help...I have muted the music to focus...was all excited to try and read these directions in the beginning...even though I have to keep rewinding because it's too fas for me.. i was so grateful for the written directions on the top right hand corner of my screen.. ..until I finally allowed the moving letters to break my concentration and notice that the moving letters on and off the screen are THE DIRECTIONS!!! I thought this was all a bad joke! I started attempting to learn polymer clay about 10 months ago taking out books from the library...after almost 3 months I thought I knew enough to start... and watch KZread video's. Although it is a good challenge im very grateful for books.lol I have been trying so hard and finally got down a rainbow skinner blend...I have spent many month's searching for a rainbow/ tie dye cane. Monday as I realized that I have seen pretty much watched every tutorial on KZread and Google. (I'm not able to afford to purchase tutorials on Etsy)I actually FINALLY came across your tutorial searching for IKAT canes!!! Which I then found the rainbow Tie Dye. After 3 full days trying to understand how to reduce/stretch and mirror and going through a couple pounds of clay ( lol) I decided to come back to this one hoping that it would help me figure that part and the initial destroying ( lol) which way to lay the cane so my Diagonal is vertical to end up with a tye dye effect. Taking the initial approach is now where I'm stuck lol

    Hello! Oh my! I'm so sorry about it seeming like a terrible joke. I definitely didn't intend that. I don't have just plain written instructions right now, and honestly, this and my other tie dye tutorial are the last things I actually did with clay.... and that was a couple of years ago. I am seriously hoping to get back to my clay this year, and I may be able to work up a written tutorial sometime soon, 😅 of course, I'll have to watch my tutorial to remind myself of the steps! If I do get that done, I will let you know here in our comments!

    I am so very sorry but I find the flying text very irritating. It takes a long time of waiting for the text to form before you can start to read and understand it. That takes our eyes away from your gorgeous work and very much takes away from what should be the focus of your video, the process of making the actual cane. I would like to strongly recommend to use this kind of visual effect very, very sparingly, like maybe up to twice per video at the most. I like your work.
