Oh thank god! I am so happy I came across this video, I got a (I believe) vanilla BP, about 6 months old. Not too sure what the gender is, but I’ve been saying “she” for a while now. Her name is Twix, and she’s like super friendly. She hasn’t done any striking poses when I put my hands or fingers near her, and she LOVES hoodies. She will lay in the sleeve or the hood. She’s super active, crawls around and wraps around me. So now I know for sure she likes me. She’s still kinda head shy, she won’t let anyone else pet her head unless it’s me. She’s like super cute! She looks at me dead in the eye and flicks her young at me, sooooo cute! Thanks again for the video! It helped a whole lot!

My 4mth old ball is very active today at 5pm, he slithered out to allow me to pick him up. He took a cradle position on my arm and I walked around the house, he was so calm and interested in everything, looking around. I put him back and he is still moving around his bin at 7:30pm. This seems far more active than I have heard.

I don't know if you respond to these still but I just bought a under 1 year old ball python from petsmart on Friday. I've been gently handling her everyday since. On Monday night I figured she was hungry since she yawned twice already for me so I gave her 1 small frozen mouse. (I was little skeptical since the store told me feeding day is Wednesday but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try). I put the small mouse in and she ate like a champ but now everytime I get close to the tank jus to look she comes out and is very active. I'm not sure if she's still in food mode or if she's ready to be handled again. Today is Wednesday it's been two days but I'm a little nervous to be attacked or making her puke. What should I do?

When I first started handling her, she hissed at me twice and punched me in my thumb once. Thought I was food is the only thing I can think of on the last one. Once she got used to me and I her, it has been smooth sailing ever since. I work with her constantly to keep her tame.

We had about a 2 hour drive home and i held her the whole time (my friend was driving so i could keep an eye on her) and she was exploring and looking around and the second half of the ride she wrapped around my wrist and went to sleep. When i got home she balled up as i put her in her enclosure and after a little bit she went into her hot hide and thats where shes been since. I was told it would take some time so im not too too worried that she hasnt come out once since then and im assuming shes nice and cozy in her hot hide 😅

Snakes are so curious, intelligent and cunning. My little 2 month old baby accustomised herself to my home and myself in just a few days. At nights she almost aleays gets out of her fav hiding spot (which intetestingly is not a hide, even when the hide was right in the same place on a heat mat, she ALWAYS slided under the paper towel XD) to slither around both parts of her terrarium. She always acts as if she wants to smell, see and know everything. She got used to me far quicker and sooner than I expected. I can say she... enjoys being handled by me, though she have a slight fear and distrust towards the rest of my family XD She seems to trully bond with me in her own way and she seems to remember which members of my family she is just suspicious of and which ones she think of as threatening and she never acted deffensively or scared in my hands. I'm doing my best to not over handle her but last time I took her in my arms, she acted as if she wanted to stay with me, instead of getting back to her "home".... That was so cute 😍😍

I took her out to hold her but her head was somewhat curved in an S position and she was staring At my finger like she was about to strike. It made me super nervous and shaken she’s my first pet snake and I wanna do it right. I know the tale tale signs of a defensive snake but I can’t tell if everything was actually alright and I was overreacting or if she’s gonna strike At me. Anyway, I really love snakes and I wanna do this right and have the bond with a snake I’ve always wanted. I know it’s not easy work but I guess just some words of advice would help

@toocute481, If he's constantly looking for an escape I would check your temperature on the hot spot. It could be too hot. If your heat is on point, I would add another hiding spot. Besides that, I would need to see a picture of your setup to precisely determine what the problem may be. Also, has he eaten? If not, he could simply be looking for food. My email is benjaminsexoctics@gmail.com

Dude- I would like my ball python to ball up so I could just cradle her- but never once has she balled up, Now the first day I got her when she was a hatchling She balled up once, but the day after that she got used to being handled. And she even lets me pet her head without flinching. I love her so much, she has such a big personality, she’s a little dumb but she’s got the spirit. 💀 (( when I say I want her balled up, I don’t want her scared, I just find it easier to handle her when she is balled up, instead of squirming everywhere. ))

This video is kinda not accurate the reason that snake was slithering away was because it has no traction on that slick table not because it was scared or anything like that

Leave them alone in their terrarium for the most part. Make sure you have the right temps and humidity. Acclimate them to holding for short periods of time once a week for 10 mins each time.
