Story
A continuation of ‪@johncarpenter1‬ 's 'The Thing' (1982) is brought to viewers in the thrilling horror story written by Rapid Action Animations 'The Thing: Repercussions' (2023). After the events of 'The Thing from Another World' (1952) and John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982) both McReady and Childs die in the cold and isolated arctic. A nearby American arctic research outpost (Outpost-32) manages to become intertwined within the events of the alien massacre as some of the crew arrive to Outpost-31 on a routine maintenance request. The rest as they say is history... who survives, who becomes infected and what happens next is for you to find out.
Special Thanks
Special thanks to ‪@johncarpenter1‬ for creating 'The Thing' (1982) and 'The Lost Themes' (His musical albums). Both were massive inspirations and motivations to help me produce this film. I plan on trying to get an interview with Carpenter but only time will tell if I am successful. The second shoutout goes to ‪@studioADI‬ or otherwise known as 'Amalgamated Dynamics'. They produced the breathtaking practical effects for 'The Thing' (2011) which were sadly CGIed over due to marketing/profit based reasons. They went on to make 'Harbinger Down' (2015) which was a masterfully crafted practical effects full movie funded by crowd funding.
Author's Note
This project almost broke me. From the intial stages of coming up with the plot mentally to actually finishing the editing and uploading the final product it took me over a year. The script was meticulously crafted for around three to four months and revised by ‪@badlaxeanimations3205‬ , ‪@cactus8360‬ and ‪@JBWFILMS‬ . This workflow allowed plenty of mistakes and details to be fixed allowing it to become more natural and laminar. Storyboards and concept art were also produced to add more attention to detail to the process and to allow for the artstyle to be created. All stop motion was done using 'Stop Motion Studio Pro' (IOS) at 15 FPS on an iPhone XR. This combined with 4K exporting allowed for high quality resolution animation. Whilst animating I did my best to maintain the lighting, composition and cinematorgaphy from the original film as well as creating my own elements within those. All footage was brought to VSDC Pro video editor which from there was processed, refined and enhanced. The miniature shot's were shot seperatly from everything else on various coloured backgrounds (White, Blue, Black, Orange) until the best method was found. In terms of compositing many techniques were used or tried (ex: I tried motion tracking but it didn't turn out how I liked). The sound design was done last using the soundtrack from ‪@johncarpenter1‬ 's 'The Thing' (1982) and 'The Thing' (2011) and sound effects from footagecrate and youtube (all sources are listed below). I'm extreamly proud of this film as it's my longest, most ambitous and imo my best work yet.
Behind the scenes will be dropped in a few months.
Thanks
-Rapid ;P

1st) You respected the Source Material! This felt like a natural extension of The Thing. 2nd) You Absolutly captured the Atmosphere with Up close angles & sound fx. I actually felt tension, which is hard to make someone feel. 3rd) The Green Screen was so well done! Bravo!

Thanks. Stop motion is a massive genre with many sub and micro and nano sub genres. This is a micro sub genre as it’s relativity popular (mega construx I mean) but still very very unknown. If you want to get more into stop motion you can watch my ultimate stop motion inspiration playlist and or you can watch some documentaries on it (although those are generally centered around old or well known/documented uses of stop motion Ex: Robocop)

Dude this was sick. The slow tension build up was amazing and my eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. The atmosphere, set pieces, lighting, voice acting, done really well. The only minor nitpick is when they’re talking in the helicopter, it was a little hard to hear their lines because of the helicopter being so loud, but besides that, this was really really great. This might be your best video yet, its hard to choose between this and Atlas

Thanks so much for picking up on that stuff. I personally think this is my best work as it was the most technically challenging and I feel like I massively innovated and improved upon my own skills. I do agree that there were problems like that (ex: audio not being there or being misbalanced) but it was due to the chaos of my organization in the editor and also the fact that by the time I got to sfx I was sick of editing and just had barely enough energy to finish it. Appreciate the continued support Willstar. Stay tuned for the behind the scenes in a few months!

This movie had good actors with cool voices making listening to them talking was more interesting like you all ways do pretty good with that. @@donaldsimmons4259Thank you. In terms of lighting it was designed to be dark to add atmosphere and to be more cinematographic. Additionally the original film was like that. Potentially if you don’t like how dark it got simply increase your brightness as it was designed for less than 25% phone brightness but if you don’t like that just raise it.

  • @RapidActionAnimations

Thanks for the comment. To answer you question. The events happened during the storm. To clarify, I mean Carpenter film (as in everything there) happened during the storm that you saw in my film. So they contacted them from Outpost 31 asking for maintenance help and then a storm cut them off. So through that time everything happened and the American base I made never heard anything (outpost 32). They then arrived and the events ensued. So it’s partially during the same time and partially after. Hope that helps. I’ll eventually make a behind the scenes if I stop procrastinating and I’ll explain all that there.

Incredible film! Just have a question or two. So the thing killed/replicated the dude on the repair trip, then broke into the other guys office, and assimilated him before the others got there, correct? Can the thing impersonate two ppl at once? Also, why did the guy flame thrower the science dude and his buddy? Great film, lighting, sound, and set!! Thanks for this awesome animation!

  • @RapidActionAnimations

    @RapidActionAnimations

    10 ай бұрын

So Dale (the person who went to outpost 31) was infected and he returned. He attempted to infect Saul (the guy in the office) but failed due to Saul having his firearm with him. Offscreen after Emma’s speech he was infected at some point. I have the whole infection timeline which I might include in the behind the scenes when I make that. The flamethrower on the scientists was due to them being sprayed by biomass which would result in infection due to the single cellular infection lore from the original film (it’s a controversial piece of lore but generally that amount of cells would cause that). The thing infects a person by ripping through that persons clothing which then results in them being infected and converted. The explanation for it however is complicated. Try searching that up online or on KZread for more information. I hope this helped.
