nick nolte is an unbelievable actor. I like how his facial features, his sturdy, square jaw structure, his angulous orbital bones and forehead, the wild hair floating and growing out of control, make him look like a powerful, almost barbarish character out of a shakespeare play. Yet the depth and melancolic expression in his eyes just contradicts all this. Such a great actor, and an artifulate, cultured gentleman

I so agree. His keenness eyes and unexpectedly sharp intelligence is only seconded(lol for the guy that made the drunk comment) his grasp not ony of literature, both modern and historic. His enthusiasm is inspiring.

Never had the recognition he deserves particularly for this film. Very good interview which shows to some limited extent the energy intelligence and emotions of this great actor.

Very well observed. His eyes contradict his physicality
He deserved an Oscar
I recently went to see 'The thin red line' at a screening at the amazing 'Prince Charles Theatre' in London. This movie has one of the most unbelievable casts in cinema for its time. I was blown away by Nick Nolte in this movie. He truly stands out!! That really is saying something with some of the names he shares the screen with. What a truly amazing wonderful actor this man is and what a performance!!

How great that would have been. I wish they screened older movies where I live. Thin red line is my favourite movie, John Toll’s cinematography and the terrific casting of Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Jim Caviziel, Elias Kotease and Ben Chaplin make the movie too. 👏
"Worked my ass off. Degraded myself, for them and my family. For my home."
I didn't appreciate this movie until I was older. Terence Malik's cinematograpy and the character development made me really see how horrible war must be.

Well said!
this is an essential for some historic backround for Noltes complex character
My favorite actor.
Undoubtedly his best performance. He quite simply gave it his all and it meshed together with the different facets and themes of the movie. Beautifully shot and flowed in a manner that is breathless. 👍👍
Fills the roll impeccably....
I don’t know if anyone could of played the role better than Nick did. I own the movie and it is one of my favorite War Films. Colonel Tall seemed to be willing to do anything at the expense of his men to get his War Glory.
That was a great acting bit. Capt. Staros was great too. Actually, it's a fantastic movie all around.
Great character and actor
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best roll Nick ever had!

Anyone else seeing any resemblances to tropic thunder? I wonder what really happened on that set. Funny how nolte is in both… god I would love to hear some true Hollywood stories from nolte I bet he’s got some great ones
Tremendo papel
he is so handsome...
So bizarre about the swarming bugs but stands to reason with the bomb concussion...
Well soldiers were accidentally vaporized in ww1 by being to close to cuncusion spread from the muzzle. Usually infantry staggering to close to the gun battery
Nolte did a good job of portraying one of the worse kind of officers James Jones saw in his WWII experience. in his books, James Jones made a point of portraying the bad and the ugly, but not so much the good.
Why did he want to,play the role? Because obviously, he was born to play it.
Compare THE THIN RED LINE to THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE.
