The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - Filming Locations - Then and Now - Horror's Hallowed Grounds

Ойын-сауық

Horror's Hallowed Grounds: Episode 2 - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). After the release of Halloween 25 Years of Terror on DVD the Horror's Hallowed Grounds segment got a lot of positive feedback from both the fans and from the critics in reviews of the DVD. So this inspired us to shoot another episode. However we didn't have a clue what we would do with it. The Horror Channel had gone belly up and we had all left to start up Dread Central.com. The HHG on-line article was also gaining popularity and even caught the eye of Nathan Hanneman editor and chief of the upstart horror magazine Horror Hound. Soon after Horror's Hallowed Grounds became a recurring article in Horror Hound Magazine, dating back to issue #4. Andrew Kasch, Buz Wallick and myself were set to attend a convention in Mesquite Texas on March 23-25, 2007. So we decided to try and film a Texas Chain Saw Massacre episode while we were there. The results of that attempt is what you see here. Again we were rushed and winging it. We had done sit down interviews with Gunner Hanson, Edwin Neal and Marilyn Burns at the convention with the intention of editing those interviews into the episode but when we got back home we realized due to some technical error the audio didn't record. It would have been great to just have those interviews but it may have been a blessing in disguise because dropping in talking head interviews at a noisy convention would have gone completely against our eventual "style". For years as new HHG episodes came out on various releases the TCM episode started to become a thing of folklore among hardcore HHG fans. Occasionally I would bring it to a convention and screen it to a room of a couple of hundred horror fans but the final product didn't have a home. Then in 2014 I caught wind of Dark Sky Films releasing a 40th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition of TCM. I reached out to them and fortunately they were familiar with HHG. I told them I had this finished episode and by today's standards it's pretty amateurish and slightly embarrassing but if they wanted to use it they could include it and I didn't want anything in return except a few copies of the Blu-Ray of course. This way it can finally get out to the masses. They said absolutely and the rest is history. SUBSCRIBE → bit.ly/2TAyK0B

This was awesome to watch! My wife and I visited Texas in October last year to celebrate our anniversary and we visited all of the locations in this video with the exception of where the house once stood. There's been a lot of changes to the gas station since this video. You can buy horror themed merchandise (which I did), there's a replica van in the back, you can actually spend the night (s) behind the station in these little cottages and the original film is also screened @ night in the back, as well!! We also visited the Old Crawford Mill and the gas station shooting locations from the TCSM '03 remake, as well. By the way, food at the restaurant/house was great!! You're the man, Sean!! Keep doin' your thing!

I made a trip to Austin the other day and drove by Old Quick Hill Road. The road is still there, but was very overgrown at the time, so I didn’t bother to stop and get pics/video. If I’m still in the area later this season after some of the vegetation dies off, I might try again. The city is on the verge of enveloping that whole area, so sad that there are hardly any traces of it left. Great video, thank you for sharing

I actually been to the gas station and I loved it. The fact that it was in the middle of nowhere to is what made it even cooler. I love the texas chainsaw massacre movies. Me, my mom, my dad went to the gas station and before we pulled up at the gas station I told my mom and I said " mom you know what I just now realized." And she says " what Hailey? " I said " you know what's the best place to have a murder happen." and she says " I have no idea." and I said " in the middle of nowhere because there is nothing around and nobody can hear you scream for help. " and she says ' that's creepy, why would you even say that? ' and I said ' well if you think about it, makes sense and if you look you are in the middle of nowhere ' 😂😂😂 I wouldn't mind going back there it was so cool to experience

Incidentally, you say in the TCM video (that was filmed 3 years ago) that the iconic road in the film (where Leatherface does his little chainsaw dance) is probably going to be bulldozed into oblivion soon due to impending development, but do you know if that road is still there right now? Also, what camera do you use to film your HHGs videos and what editing software do you use to edit your HHGs videos?

18 years??? There’s probably condominiums built on that road by now. In addition to it being used in one of the ICONS of horror films, that road also looked spooky with the grass growing on top of the asphalt and would have been a great location for a spooky short film. Sad it’s gone.

This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
