The Terrible Old Man by H.P. Lovecraft | An Audiobook Narration
Ойын-сауық
In this video, I present The Terrible Old Man by H.P. Lovecraft - an audiobook narration.
Ok, I’m going to say it, this is not Lovecraft’s best work. Sure, it has his signature horror vibes but it feels like half of the story is missing. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled with the first few stories of Lovecraft’s that I read… which are filled with such elaborate and beautifully crafted details.
In this story, everything is left to our imagination. But I suppose, that actually does bring something to the story too.
So, where does your imagination take you? What do you think of The Terrible Old Man? Could H.P. Lovecraft have told you more? Or did he give you just enough to terrify you?

He appears in the "The Strange High House in the Mist" as well which is a much better story.

Oh exciting - I'll go find that one and give that a read. I'm glad its not just me feeling this one isn't up to the usual Lovecraft standard. Thanks so much for listening!

@@readingtheclassics Thank you for recording it; subscribed. "The Strange High House in the Mist" also takes place in Kingsport but is more like Lovecraft's Dreamland fantasy stories than his horror ones.

I've just getting started on my Lovecraft journey so very excited to see where it takes me. I'm a bit time poor at the moment so I'm just doing smaller stories but cannot wait to get into Cthulu and some of his other longer works (although I am daunted by trying to pronounce some of the words in there!!!).
Moral of the story: Don't underestimate old men. I guess.

Especially one that everyone describes as 'the terrible'. Thanks for listening!
The wrong person to mess with! They should have listened to the Kingsport folk and the dogs... and have better intentions

I feel like there was an underlying don't judge a book by its cover message in there somewhere.... thanks for listening!
Honestly I just thought this was a biogtqphy of Lovecraft's racism. Hes a good story teller tho.

Lovecraft does tend to cover xenophobia in his story telling. That was not my first thought of what it was about... but now you've raised it, I can definitely see that undertone in it. Thanks for listening!

Anyone who has a problem with Lovecraft is usually an SJW, and way more racist than he was. Do you leave these comments under any of the countless anti-White propaganda of today? Do you spend an equal amount of time fighting against CURRENT racism? I doubt it.
