Poor Scrappy was forcibly retired out in terms of regularity, partly because he’s a good concept not executed well; and partly because the execs of Hanna Barbera in the 80s didn’t really like them and still don’t.

Fun fact! That Kung Fu movie that was played in that one scene where Pip got a massage is ACTUALLY ANOTHER MOVIE MADE BY THE SAME GUY. It's called The Prodigy, and it's just as bad

Love how movies like this would normally put focus on the dog and the kid's relationship, but the flashbacks in this are about the creepy relationship with the mom.

Hyenas being more closely related to felines (they're actually their own order, Hyaenidae) doesn't really mean anything. Pip would be mauled because they are hyenas and Pip is a small domestic dog more than 10x smaller than they are.

It doesn't matter _what_ pack of carnivores met Pip, he was dinner to all of them. That's why I hate that the family left him out there, it reinforces the idea that it's OK to drop animals off in the countryside, because they can "fend for themselves". Nope!

I actually watched a lot of South Asian (usually Bollywood) #mockbusters centring around jungle heroes. Some of these films are wonderfully entertaining, but the others are incredibly cruddy.

And looking at the cast, you’d think the movie stories would do something new with the “fish out of water” concept but it didn’t do that for me

That started production before Madagascar, it was just Disney and DreamWorks having similar ideas at the same time

I saw the IHE review of this years ago and I am so glad that he didn't address the Incel Rhinos subplot because that caught me off guard. Whoever wrote this was heavily intoxicated when they wrote this script lol.

I like how you didn't even bother mentioning that there's no bamboo in Africa. This movie really took its toll.

The dog died in the beginning when the Jeep crashed. At the end the family found the dead dog. The boy wanted to take the dog home. But the parents can obviously see that the dog is dead.

LMFAO, I remember this movie! My little brother and I found it online to watch at our Grandma's house when we were little. We chose it because it looked laughably bad and we just kind of wanted to watch the train wreck play out, you know? (We also ended up going over out data limit for the internet card our mom had given us that summer because we didn't know streaming would use up so much. Imagine getting charged a surplus fee over THIS movie. I'm so sorry, mom-) Anyway, we were cracking jokes the whole time and laughing at the horrible animation, awkward pacing, basic dialogue, and yet we both STILL cried at the fucking end. It's one of my deepest, darkest secrets and you can enjoy it for free.

This is the type of movie that gives you a headache by just watching it. Also if pip is a demon enslaving his family he’s just a weird knock of mr. pickles lol 😂

There was something so funny about the awkward pauses whenever someone had a different opinion in the movie "Actually we do like some men" " . . . " and the silence just reads a "YOU WHAT"

The funniest part of the movie was to see a dog that hates cats befriend first two hyenas, animals which family isn't related to canids and it's closer to viverrids and felids, mistaking them for dogs. They could at least have done some clever jokes around that.

I’m convinced this dog is the reason Mr.Pickles was created.

Some of those bird noises on the SAVANAH are definitly loons. I'm not 100%, but the common loon isn't usually found in Africa; right?

I went too in-depth with the statement “he befriended two hyenas because he thought they were dogs”. here’s your biology lesson of the day. turns out hyena’s are more closely related to cats genetic/evolution wise than dogs, even though they exhibit similar behaviour to other wild dogs. hyena’s are in the suborder Feliformia (cat like carnivores) of the order Carnivora (carnivorous mammals). loved the video but I will now but up all night thinking about this🙃

I figures out why the animals stand up and move like humans in these movies .... because the animators only know how to attach humanoid avatars to the models. That's probably the default setting and they're stuck.

The rhino running scene (which sadly wasn’t shown in this video) has probably got to be one of the single most unintentionally funny scenes I’ve ever seen in my life.
