The Tenderloin and City Hall: A Century of Conflict

May 21, 2020: A live, on-line event presented by the Tenderloin Museum in San Francisco. Host: Katie Conry, exec dir. of the Tenderloin Museum / Randy Shaw, attorney, author, founder of the Tenderloin Museum, founder/exec. dir. of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic / Kathy Looper, board president of the Tenderloin Museum, exec. administrator of the Cadillac Hotel, board chairperson of Reality House West, Inc. Description: A live, virtual panel discussion (5/21/2020) on the history of conflict between the City of San Francisco and the Tenderloin district -- with emphasis on the present crisis of tents overrunning the sidewalks. Over 400 tents block the sidewalks of the neighborhood, preventing safe passage by children, people in wheelchairs, the elderly, and residents of the apartment buildings and the many Single Resident Occupancy hotels (SRO's). The result is trash, filth, and an increase in crime and drug dealing. The UC Hastings College of Law, Tenderloin Merchants Association, and several individuals filed a law suit against the City in Federal court on 5/4/2020. The expected remedy is to clear the sidewalks and move the tents to City-owned vacant parcels for the benefit of both permanent residents and the temporary occupants of the tents. www.tenderloinmuseum.org / [Music by San Francisco Recovery Theatre from upcoming CD, "Voices of the Tenderloin". www.sfrecoverytheatre.org]

I hit the Tenderloin in the 60s . I was a runaway. I never seen tents . All I had was the clothes I had on and the people I ran into was the same way.We all went to St Anthony or where ever to eat.People was helping people. I am now 70 years old and I still live in the Tenderloin. I get upset when I have to walk in the street because of the tents . I walk with a cane.Sometimes I wish it was the 60s or 80s every thing and people was nicer back then. This is the year 2020 ..Things got bad
