The Tale of 3 URGIs

Today we sit down and look at 3 different setups of the venerable Geissele URGI 14.5. An excellent rifle that lets you larp hard, and almost get the attention of Instagram hoes. Honestly though it's a great rifle, with great quality and the ability to accel in any application you put it in. This video was a lot of fun to make and thank you to my boys who made it possible. One is on deployment, the other changed branches to do more badass shit. Love you guys, stay dangerous.

    I actually switched my super duty Lower to my PSA lower believe it or not and I love it. No more wobble whatsoever. Nice and tight. I switched every Geissele super duty part to my PSA lower so it has everything on it. Also every whole on my PSA was more in spec for better fitment than the Geissele and knights armament lower. I’ve seen some very top name Lowers have almost failing out of spec wholes for safety, trigger, take down pins, Mag well. My cheap PSA lower is one of my best in spec lowers. That may be hard for all you name brand junkies but that’s the truth. It fits all my uppers and lower parts like my colt lower.

    Nice set ups , Geissele makes some awesome stuff, I run their SDC triggers in 3 of my ARs. The Vortex Razor gen 2 is better than the gen 3 for a do all carbine especially for a rifle that has a maximum effective range of 500 meters. You need a quick, easy to use and forgiving LPVO when shooting under stress and the gen 2 is still the best for those situations. Great review and thanks for your honest opinion of the gen 3

    The 1-6 and 1-10 are both in Badger 1.70 C1's. IT's a great height and I prefer it over the absolute mounts. These barrels are the 14.5 Daniel Defense government profile. Geissels's barrels have a thicker profile that tapers from the barrel nut to the muzzle. IT's very similar to a Hanson barrel from Ballistic Advantage, but thicker.

But I'm plenty happy with my P4Xi on my 11.5 and plan to buy a couple more in the future for other builds. For me the optics I prefer are, Steiner P4Xi for the 1-4x bracket. The Credo FFP red mil for the 1-6 bracket. Accupower or Credo red MIL for the 1-8 bracket. And the Vortex so far for the 1-10, but I'm possibly only ever going to get 1 more 1-10. Can you get the URGI in different lengths? Failing that, how hard would it be to put a long barrel on it and be "true" to the specs? Say 18"s? Love your reviews. Really appreciate this one and your other URGI reviews. I would love to see a video where you build your ultimate lower.

    The URGI comes in 14.5, 11.5 (newest) and 10.3. I wouldn't say an 18" would be true specs. Plus with an 18" you can go rifle length which is hyper smooth. I would build an 18" over swapping barrels from the 14.5. The 14.5" is remarkably capable.

    The thing that annoys me about the Badger Ordnance Condition 1 mount is that the offset J-Arm mount sits at the same height no matter which height the scope mount is (1.54, 1.7, or 1.93). The offset mount is always at 1.7, so if you've got the 1.93 mount, you have to dip your head down when you transition, or if you've got the 1.54 mount, you have to raise your head when you switch sights. Kind of a dumb design decision on Badger's part. I want the 1.93 mount, but will have to get a separate offset mount like the Arisaka mount to get both the red dot and LPVO to sit at the same height. Unity Tactical makes a nice LPVO mount with integrated offset mount with both sitting at the same height, but in their infinite wisdom, they designed it for right-handed shooters only...No ambi functionality. These companies just don't want my money...😩

    It's all based on needs. But I agree. Some of these dudes are running hyper high mounts for no reason. But I get it with injuries and especially if you're taller. Being upright is not always advantageous in bad situations. But honestly injuries dictate how you move forward, so do what you need to in order to stay dangerous! Take care on your end.

  • @MarkBadia

    If your are running it at 3-4 constantly why not a red Dot with a 3x magnifier that would be lighter than the set up you have. I can see the set up you have with a 4-12 or 4-16 where you can stretch out to longer distances.

  • @navyman8903

    @navyman8903

    3 жыл бұрын

    I get your point, there is a place for that. But I like the capability variable gives you. IT's easy to snap into a 3x or 4x, but if you have a supported position being able to kick up to 6 to get better PID or SA, OR kick down form 6x to 3x or 4x for wider FOV is excellent. The 4-16 is a great option as well, but that's a much different application. Having a do it all AR gives you options, but doesn't necessarily give you highly specialized capability. But it's a buyer's market, so you can buy it and build it however works best for you.

I have been working on the Bindon aiming method to be able to use a 3x with both eyes open to have the ability to shot up close while being able to reach out 100 to 200 yards with minimal effort. I have also looked at a 2.5 X 10 Primary Arms and coupled with a red dot would give you reach while just going to the red dot will give you speed up close. Thanks for getting back to me.

    There really is no substitute for getting behind the gun and shooting it, but guys like you are the next best thing. With that being said, my “workhorse” barrel that I would recommend to anyone who isn’t worried about specific muzzle devices is the SOLGW 13.7. Between having shot one in competition, seeing what other guys have to say about it, and shooting a lot of barrels I didn’t like *cough* ROSCO *cough* I can confidently recommend them. That’s aside from the obvious FN, Colt, and new DD stuff.

The Criterion I haven't come up with a name yet, but the BA 12.5 is going to be the Greenie weenie........I'm going to paint it, so couple shades of green (probably ODG and Ranger Green)/sand to blend in here. But I'm going to set the uppers up identically. Just slightly different length SLR rails to keep them apart. BA is getting the 11" (10.93...) and the Criterion is getting the 11.7" rail.
