I’m an inside roller and redirect golfer. Closing the face and arcing the lead wrist whilst always having the butt end of the club facing me does it . Worked this out myself and is very counter intuitive but pleased to know I’m not crazy .. game is 50 times better .

This dril is one of my favorites because the takeaway is the one thing that makes and brakes my ability to strike the ball. Living on the east coast of the US, I can only play about 7-8 months out of the year and I find the one thing that waivers at the beginning of the season is my takeaway, it just seems to be the one thing that always feels a little off and until I watch my swing back on video, I don't realize I'm taking the club away usually to far inside with not enough width and/or getting a little funky with my angles. This drill really helps me get my takeaway feeling "correct" and also beyond feeling connected, it helps me feel where the club face is in relation to path at every point in the swing. Which as we know, is imperative on the golf course...especially when having to shape shots or hit the ball off of a funky lie, you really need to understand and feel your club path and face angle. Unlike just swinging at the range you can sort of get into a habit of making a swing that results in a decent path and face angle but not really being able to feel or control the club face. Then you get out onto the course with ball below your feet and slightly uphill and you can't keep the ball anywhere near target. Anyways, just wanted to share my thoughts on this drill as it's extremely helpful for me. Cheers!

@@MarkCrossfield Have just been working on the first element Mark. Swing feels so much better. Arms and body rotation synched resulting in a full shoulder turn and a great position from which I can start my downswing. I'm 64 and am getting numbers up around the 270 yards on the quad so once again, a big thank you.

Got it. Good video and have tried the club by my feet, will again. It helped. Please can you do a video from the end of that first stage and up. I am not confident with my trail arm position and elbow. Tend to still go round and not up. 😂.

I like the thought of concentrating on the movement of the forward hip to start the backswing rather than being certain the trail hip moves up & back which can take the club too far inside with the arms. It seems that concentrating on the forward hip will help staying connected & in sync.

Mark, when I turn down face and change aim to the right, I get pull hooks. How do you get ball to start to the right? Is it a left knee movement to start the backswing?

  • @Bettyswollocks8164

Hi There Crossy. Been watching u for some time now, This is your best explanation of takeaway I have ever seen or anyone explain And show the movement precisely. Interesting after all these years I feel like I have watched your swing get better each time and been on the journey with you. I like your honesty and ability to work out the box. Chasing the trends trends is not the answer. Understanding what a Amateur Golfer feels and needs to correct most common faults is the real answer with solid Drills. I have been rolling my wrists for 20 years and I bet 95% of self taught people do this. I have now started to turn my wrist towards the ground And simply turn with great results. You must still roll the wrists at the right time to prevent leaving the face open. This varies as the club length changes. The shorter the club the faster the Roll over, I hope this make sense Crossy, All the best Mate, Would Love to have a Game with you some Time

Only came across your channel a week or so ago. Really enjoying your tips - I struggle with the takeaway so these tips are great. I also struggle at the start of the downswing almost casting with a very steep shaft on the way down. Do you have or have you done any videos on this if so can you point me in the right direction to view or alternatively provide me with info to correct. Have subscribed to your channel and look forward to hearing from you.

my first move is to push down on my back heel then rotate my hips around the middle of my back heel. My shoulders never rotate on purpose. The hardest thing for me is to stop my hips going forward allowing the club head to catch up. When I don't stop I always chunk it. Any thoughts?

It absolutely will. I don't care if you think you're a one, two five or ten planer....get that first move wrong and you're a bad planer....with a swing that requires surgery from there.....generally its a suck inside job. Stuck right off the bat. The swing is really more upright than flat but we wanna make it flat at takeaway.

So confusing watching utube vids, half the teachers tell u to turn your hips on the backswing, the other half talk about keeping legs stable and turning top half of body to get the elastic band effect. Leaves me with so much doubt what to do🤦
