The Swirl Lamp Machine

Ойын-сауық

I am proud to present the largest chain reaction machine I have built since the Mouthwash Machine! I'd been eager to try my hand at another full machine for a while now and am very happy with how it turned out!
This machine was surprisingly easy to create! After enduring a nightmarish building process with my Domino World machine for this year, I decided to ease on professionalism and was pleasantly surprised when almost every trick in the machine was relatively easy to make and didn't really take more than a day each to create. I was able to exceed almost all of the goals I set for myself every day during the building process and filming wasn't too horrible either. This was definitely the most fun I've had making a project in a while.
I decided to go with an island-themed aesthetic when I edited this machine since it was built in an area isolated from the rest of the room (and because it gave me an excuse to use one of my personal favorite EDM tracks). Let me know in the comments what you think!

I want to give shoutouts to TheContraptionKing for making the ball ricochet idea and cwdreactions for making the ball-in-slinky idea that I used in this machine. I don't like to make tricks that have already been done and already had these ideas planned before they were premiered (the ball ricochet idea was actually the primary reason I wanted to build another machine inside of a bookshelf), but I definitely want to give credit where credit is due. The slinky idea was tricky during the building process and I don't think I would have included it if cwdreactions hadn't already demonstrated that it was possible. I also want to give props to jackofallspades98, as many of his mechanisms from 50 Fundamental Chain Reaction Mechanisms were useful in the process of making this machine. As for future projects, I am back in college as of the release of this video and will be unable to build for a time, but I did spend a good bit of time building for other projects this summer. I will be uploading my Domino World 2021 machine when the event is finished and sometime this fall, a fourth installment to the Builders Collab series should be released (only this video will be quite different from its three predecessors). Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss them!
I am interested in commissioned work. If you have any needs pertaining to chain reaction art, please feel free to email me at sirgabealot11@gmail.com.

This is by far my favorite machine that you have created. I tend to love simpler machines that explore unique and clever motions sometimes a lot more than overly complex machines. Now for my analysis :) Newton’s cradle- It feels so hard to incorporate a newton’s cradle into a machine but you always manage to create innovative ideas with them. The discovery that the middle ball slowly begins to oscillate is very interesting and is something I would never think of. I also think it was a good idea to put this relatively slow trick near the beginning as it creates some suspense before the the bigger tricks. Ball bounce - I wonder where I have seen this before lol. To be honest I think your version is a lot cleaner because it uses the actual shelf in the machine as a crucial part of the trick. Slinky - Even though Carson did a variation of this I still thought it was very well done. The fact that there was a ball hidden in the slinky was actually a cool surprise as I didn’t notice it until it rolled out. This trick was also a great way to transition between shelves! Key chain - Honestly just such a clever concept that was executed so smoothly. Sliding marble run - I actually have played around with this sliding property but have never came up with a good trick involving it. Putting a marble run on it was a fun idea. One more thing to mention is the lever with weights that it lands on. There are many more examples of mechanisms like this throughout the machine that are subtle but crucial for accomplishing smooth motions which is part of the reason this machine is so clean looking. Tilting lid - This is definitely one of my favorite ideas in this machine. It almost feels like a “Machine Fusion” of a trick near the beginning of Pool Party Machine and The Umbrella Machine. Tilting marble run - I like this trick a lot more than I should and I am really not sure why. I guess we don’t see tricks like this anymore but they are definitely fun to watch if done correctly. Marble pendulum - Another one of my favorite tricks. Yet again such a simple but clever concept that no one has done before. It kind of reminded me of those billiard ball pendulums from Billiard Ball Tricks. Falling tube + ball - I admire the fact that you put a lot of effort into the transitions from table to table. Same goes with screenlinks. Frisbee - This is my 2nd favorite trick in the machine. I feel like we have all seen this motion before, so it was great to see it done in a machine. It definitely feels like something I would build as well. Flexing parallelograms - Very nice spice up of Joel’s trick. I love how it launches the ping pong ball perfectly straight into the air. Flipping chamber - Love the motion and self powered aspect of the trick. It almost looks like magic because the dropping marble is easy to miss. Flexing parallelogram on board - Once again such a clever idea - it reminded me of a trick on your domino world table! Fiber optic slide - This is probably my favorite trick in the machine. It feels like a toy that has become almost a signature object of yours because of how many crazy things you have come up with it. Ping pong ball chain - Such a satisfying and aesthetically pleasing trick. Your use of color in machines is always outstanding. Track lift - A very elegant track trick. I have noticed more and more people using K’nex chain so I might have to start experimenting with it. Also the little shock absorber was a nice touch ;) All in all, you have blown me away once again. These are the exact kinds of tricks I hope to make when building a machine. Your expertise allows for tricks and transitions to feel smooth, and your clean and colorful style allows for a very enjoyable viewing experience. I hope you and other builders make more machines like this because they encapsulate everything I love about chain reaction art.

I thought you built this while on vacation until I read the description... I especially loved the keychain billiard ball and the magnet pendulum. Both of them made me do a double take with their unexpected motions. The whole machine is also very easy to understand.

DUDE. You have done it again! There were so many amazing ideas in this machine that I never would have thought of! That slinky trick absolutely blew my mind! I loved the keychain trick, the frisbee trick, and the sliding fiber optic thing too. Awesome job!
